Hi, everyone. Busy day here -- on the run from 10:15am - 10:15pm, just here and there: taking DS10 to cello, DS8 to his basketball game, DS8 to a birthday party, DS10 to a basketball practice, and then whole family to the symphony tonight. I'm looking forward to the day being over, and it hasn't even started. But, the symphony should be nice...

LC: I'm insulin resistant and prediabetic as well. Can relate to all the working out etc with no results - except for a herniated disc : ( I'm taking metformin and trying to follow the recommendations of the nutritional counselor I went to. The hardest part is eating enough calories - trying for 1600 and have trouble getting in 1200 unless I'm eating something bad like chinese food. It sounds like you really did your research and found the best plan for you. Wish I could find a dr like yours, I haven't found someone I like that much. Definitely nobody that I feel I can really trust.

Bonus to having my ds18 around, when he's bored he CLEANS!! As for the smoking habit my neighbor convinced me that for my own sanity I shoudn't try to force him to quit cold turkey. He had a similar experience with his own son moving back home and it didn't go well. I am making him ration them and he's cutting back. I also had to buy him some of his own food - he was eating all my expensive healthy stuff like it was going out of style! Gotta make sure I have the right food in the house for me : )

I hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Kathi

LC - caveat, here - I've had a couple of beers and easily amused! I read your colonoscopy story and I'm sitting here just cracking up! I had to drive DH to his just a couple weeks ago - day before Tgiving in fact ... nurse calls me to come in from the waiting room ... he's lying there on his side on the gurney, in total bliss from the drugs - smilin' like I don't know what ... and the nurse tells him he's gotta pass the gas. He obliges in true manly fashion - classic six note, three octave ... and I'm like, why couldn't you have called me about five minutes later???? OMG. (I'm tearing up from laughing as I type this) Yes, it's undignified, yes, it'd be great if there were better ways, but there isn't ... and it's data you have to have. :D My advice for anybody getting a colonoscopy - just surrender and get over it.

That being said - the last 6 hours have been decidedly off plan and I will do better tomorrow. Cajun mac and cheese, beer, and M&M's are not a lifestyle I want to live. It's a slip and me and the wagon will be reacquainted tomorrow. :D

ICU and LC, I must have been well drugged, I don't remember any of that from my colonoscopy!

mmmhmmm, how convenient for you :D

TEASING!

ICU - glad I could share a laugh, and yeah, hello...some warning would be nice!
Okay, so you laxed on your choices yesterday - it was one day..no biggie, today is a fresh day.

NewLeaf - oy! I'm tired just reading it...hope it goes quickly and smoothly

WLW - I feel for you, I understand the frustrating process... :( Funny thing, I had to be taken off Metformin..part of my malabsorption issues...i wasn't digesting the pills...they passed through me completely..so we switched me to another combination form, so now they absorb....only, I didn't "catch" it for 6 months while I was ON IT! One day, i was like...ummm, what's going on...finding out and making the switch helped my A1C numbers, hahaha
--oh yeah, and in the meantime, they doubled my dose, because they "weren't working"...now we knew why! LOL
--
I measured today and lost an inch off my hips and waist. Nice feeling. We went out to eat yesterday (2-3x a week usually) and it's become a non-issue...which is really nice. I made a good choice, and I even make requests like...no cheese on my salad please...etc. Just order it how I can eat and and how i like, and it was yummy...and healthy...and I enjoyed eating out, and stayed on plan.

Cruise, sorry to hear about Mack's foot injury :\ hope he makes a quick recovery

Onmyway 12-06-2009 10:18 AM

Good morning!

LAMBCHOP, Your story made me laugh so hard! Why is it we are so embarrassed by something that is so human and natural. Everybody does it! I'm also glad you have found a program that is working for you with a DR. you truly can relate to. I have no doubt you will get where you need to be and can switch to a plan you will be able to maintain. Keep up the good work!

ICU, Today is a new day. Sometimes days off plan can help us get our determination and focus back. You've had a little of what you shouldn't, it tasted good but you probably feel like crap today because of it. My Dh will turn 50 soon so a colonscopy is probably in our future, thanks for the warnings! LOL!

WLW, sounds like things are going well with your son. Smoking is a hard habit to quit and he has to want to do it himself. Cleaning is a good thing, wish my DS liked it!

NEWLEAF, Hope you enjoyed the symphony and survived your busy day. We are done with weekend sports for a while and I kind of miss it a little!

CRUISE, Hope Mack's foot is feeling better. I know what you mean about the treadmill, Boring!

How is everyone doing with their Holiday preparation. We have school til the 23rd. Whose idea was that? Did a little shopping this weekend and ordered some stuff online last night. Nothing like getting your shopping done in your PJ's while the recipient is seated nearby!

Signed our paperwork for our new floors, Monday they will give me some idea of when it can be scheduled. May try to get them done before Christmas if the days work out right, otherwise I will wait til Jan.

Hope everyone has a relaxing Sunday. I will be dressing 100's of teens for our church's Live Nativity. Just glad there is no rain in the forecast for us!

Going Skiing!!!!!

ICU, I calculate my recipe’s calories on the computer (I have several programs but I hear fitday works great). Then add it to LoseIt! Through the Create New Food button so I don’t have to add all the ingredients through LoseIt. Then the new food shows up in the My Food button instead of recipes.

Lamb, I think it’s wonderful you found a way to lose weight when other things weren’t working. You have a great plan to work back into foods as you get closer to maintenance. Sometimes taking the variety out of the diet so you can focus on other parts of life makes it so you don’t obsess so keep on your plan because it’s definitely working. And your story about the colonoscopy had me laughing and dreading ever having one!!! ;) Thanks for the lightness.

OMW, eeks, :o I’m glad passing gas is embarrassing and that most do the bun tightening. Can you imagine the smell of elevators, subways, churches if everyone just let go??? Ok, now I’m laughing again.

So my weekend alone with my dogs – I returned home yesterday with Blizzie from the vet, called DD and mentioned I was tempted to drive down to Reno so we could go skiing at Heavenly. She’s like, then you’d better get on the road (it was one in the afternoon). I called DH and he’s like, go. So I did. Now I’m in Reno waiting for DD to wake up so we can go skiing. How cool is that??? :D I get to wear my new, form fitting ski suit that DD and I picked out on Black Friday. Also on Black Friday I went to a professional bra fitter and she did an ok job but was unsure of a 32 or 34 D and pushed to the 34D (I bought one) and then ordered a Wacoal racer back bra in a 32 and 34D from herrroom.com. The 32D fits perfectly. It is the first time that a bra actually supports and is so comfy. I ordered three more this morning and sent the 34D back. Who’d have ever thought a good fitting bra would be so exciting. Also, I have moved out of the size 10 jeans and into the 8s I bought on Black Friday. Single digits, very mind-boggling. And I got to move my ticker. :carrot:

Have a great day and I’ll try to get a picture on the mountain to share.
Marie

Very cool Marie-skiing, good fitting bras, and size 8 jeans.

Lamb-you had me laughing. Nothing about bodily functions really phases me anymore.

I got my new toy yesterday. Thanks all of you for making me not feel so self-indulgent for having two cars. I've never done this before. I grew up quite poor and having more than I need is still an adjustment. My car is very nice-it does everything but cook my dinner. It has one of those voice recognition programs which I need to learn to use. I'm sure that will be very convenient and super cool. It's a hybrid so it gets 40 mpg too. That will be a nice change from my Jeep.

Remember me?

Hubby finally fixed the computer today by something silly like changing the date on the computer. I was able to get on another forum by not this one or a third??? We had no idea what was wrong or how to fix it. Computer's are crazy things!

I'm way behind with everyone. I lurked for a while but not being able to post was like window shopping. Try to play catch up tonight.

petra65 12-06-2009 07:29 PM

Penguin. Good to see you again.

I forgot to tell you all, I had my massage yesterday. My massage was not given by a family member so I let her do whatever she wanted. ;) I knew I carried my stress in my shoulders but wow! My shoulders were like rocks I think.

I made an amazing Moroccan dish for dinner tonight. Roasted Vegetable Couscous with Chickpeas and Onion-Pinenut topping. OMG. It is everything I love about moroccan food-that mixture of sweet and savory flavors. This is the dish I had to make the spice mixture for. It's called ras el hanout. I have other recipes that call for it so I'm sure I'll get to use it again. Sort of like garam masala is to indian cooking. This is my new vegetarian dish for the month and it is a winner.

I use a food journal called weight-by-date. It is very convenient for calculating the calories, carbs, protein, etc in recipes as well as combining foods you tend to eat together as a group and just enter them as a meal. I found fitday very cumbersome for calculating the calories in recipes. If you made 1 mistake you had to start over from the beginning. I also have another computer program called mastercook which is very easy for running the nutritional info in recipes. Unfortunately weight-by-date only comes in a palm based mobile format. I'm waiting for one I can use on my blackberry.

weightlosswanted 12-06-2009 10:18 PM

penguin: welcome back! I had a similar issue with my netbook, lasted for almost a week before I noticed the date and time were wrong. funny how it effects some sites but not others.
maried: you're my hero, size 8's and a spontaneous trip to reno, oh my!
petra: thanks for sharing about weight-by-date, I'm going to do the free trail and see how it works : )
