Exercising-- Do you have on when you workout?

I am trying to get back into clean eating and exercising regularly. I am so tire of these false starts I seem to have. I start up and then stop...However, with that said, do you have a preference, morning, afternoon or evening when you exercise?

I used to exercise when I got home from work. But, now with the job I am doing now I am exhausted when I get home. So I am thinking maybe getting up an hour earlier in the mornings before work. But that's difficult as well I presently get up just in time to get ready and dash off to work.

But I have to make exercise a priority like before so I thinking I'll have to get over it:( and get up a little earlier...

The good thing about exercising is that you may find it increases your energy levels, and leaves you with more zoomph for after work. My energy levels increased soooo much when I switched over to whole food healthy eating and got back into weight training.

When I first returned to working out, I used to go late at night, usually on a Thursday, after working an evening shift to the 24 hour gym. I often have Sundays off, so have made that into one of my prime workout days. Tuesday has often been a gym filler time for me, just because it runs in between the other two gym days. For awhile, I went Wednesday mornings to a yoga class but then the instructor changed. I figure that as long as I go three times a week, it is okay. Right now, I usually am in the gym Sunday afternoon for weights, sometimes Monday or Tuesday night yoga sometimes followed by a few weights, target a Zumba class on Thursday afternoon, and weights again on Friday. By nature, I am an evening person so often work out early afternoon, or later in the evening. And I strongly dislike being in the gym when it is busy.

Good luck getting your schedule sorted out! It is so well worth while going to the gym.

chubbi - You called it right..... YOU have to make exercise a priority and do what works best for you

I get up very early (3:30) but still like to workout later in the day; however, I live in the desert and come summer anytime after 8am and it's too hot. So a couple weeks ago I moved my workout back to the early morning.

I too get a nice boost after working out so anything after 5pm is out of the question.

I get up early and ride my stationary bike for 30 minutes first thing in the morning 5-6 days a week. I do weight training during my lunch hour on MWF. And I go to water aerobics on Tues/Thurs evenings. So I'm all over the place. A close friend and I try to walk our dogs 1-2 times a week for an hour or so as well. With working and 2 kids, I don't have time to spend 2 hours in the gym 3-4 days a week. I have to break it up into manageable times.

All I've been doing the past couple of months is the elliptical that's in my dining room. I'm not a morning person, so I usually ride in the evenings around 8 PM. I may have to move it to earlier in the evening, though, because now I'm finding that it gets my blood circulating and can make it hard for me to settle down to sleep at bedtime!

I admit I am not a morning person and getting up before 6 is not going to happen for me! During school I exercise either right after school or in the early evening. Once summer gets here I will start walking with my neighbor in the morning and we like to get going around 7. Having someone waiting for you every day is a big motivator. My exercise plan consists of things I can do at home, exer bike, treadmill Wii Fit, step video. I prefer to be at home rather than going someplace else to exercise.

I work from home, and just part time, so I have a pretty flexible schedule. I set my own hours. So what I do is, the night before I look at what I have on my calendar for the next day and figure out when I will fit exercise in. So sometimes it is in the morning, sometimes in the afternoon. I find that once the kids come home (3:30pm) my time shifts to being about them and their schedules, not me and mine, so if I haven't completed exercise by 3:30pm then I'm shot for the day...

I don't like wasting time by having to drive to the gym and then drive home, so I have enough things in my basement that we have collected over the last 10 years: a stair master, elliptical, and treadmill.

Thanks to all you for your response. I guess I have to take it one step at a time is see what works best for me. I agree exercise does give you that burst of energy that I so need.

I don't work out at all. Never have and never will. Atleast not in a sense of going to the gym and sweating. I do silly things like dancing on my bus when I clean it every day and walking back and forth in the parking lot. My bus is the farthest from the doors, LOL When I get home, I chase my kids around the house and sometimes walk the dog. It seems to work for me. Another thing that helps is I don't watch TV. No couch potato here.

Not so much the working out is a priority as is getting up with Mack.

We also are in bed between 8-9pm.... I feel so old when I say that.

I feel envious when you say that ;) I go to bed by 10; between 9 and 10 when I'm lucky; and virtually always by 11 - and everyone thinks I'm crazy.
