Kappy: Too bad the gas prices are so high. That sounds like a lot of fun to go "hopping". That is one thing I really want to do, when I get some time. I'd love to learn to quilt. Right now, all my time goes to the kids and surviving! ha! Someday, I'm going to take some classes. I absolutely love quilts and would love to make some.
Clyde: Sounds like you might need more than just quarters for your daughter when she comes home!! Hope you have a nice week together! Rennie: I feel the same way about some of these classes and church gatherings. Even if you are at home, you still have a schedule when it comes to kids. Even in the schools, I think that they schedule too many things to fit for the teachers and they don't even consider the working outside of the home parents. I understand that the teachers have lives, too, but if you want to get some parents involved, you might need to extend the hours a little. Hey Sillycat! Welcome! Jump right in and start posting. Lovn: You're probably braver than I am, getting on thse slides. Not so sure I would be excited about that! I went out with my son last night and we walked. He's such a sweet kid. He could run it, but just walked with me. I needed to get out and I didn't get my walking in at lunch time. Then we played catch and I had him hit some balls into the fence. It's fun going out with him. My daughter was in a mood, so I left her at home! Not going to put up with that. She's on thin ice right now. I hope she is sleeping it off as we speak! 13... such a fun age. |
helloooooooooo everyone :)
shash....i so love quilts too...i crochet afghans but i too like you would love to know how to quilt...not sure i have that kind of patience though! haha i only have one quilt that my grandmother made. i wish i had more. its amazing all those teeny tiny stitches...and i can imagine her when she might have been sitting and stitching away....by candlelight or perhaps kerosene lamp...years ago...as far as kids go, it doesn't get any easier, just different as they too age! sometimes the house is just tooooooo quiet now that they are all grown. my oldest son, lives in charleston wv, and is a trauma RN, and is married and has 2 adorable little boys...my only grandchildren at this time. my 2nd son is in spartanburg sc, and is a fireman. my 3rd son is in the navy currently in japan. my 3th child, my only daughter is a paralegal and also lives 3 hours away. so sometimes...i miss them so much that i can't bear to think about it. enjoy your kids now....believe me the time will pass quicker than you might think. clyde...ooooo a pampered chef party...i always wanted to go to one of those but never have. let me know why the quarters!! shy...ooo i love snow too....as long as it is in YOUR yard and not mine! hahaha i'm sorry...give me the southern sun....i don't take to kindly to cold weather! haha kappy...i like your idea of a quilt shop hop...makes me remember my outer banks lighthouse hopping trips....i adore going to lighthouses... Sounds like your tress were "the white way delight"! (from anne of green gables) lovn....gosh i sure hope all your family gets well soon....nigel and i have been fortunate that we remain healthy. don't you just love soaking in a hot tub! welcome sillycat and you sure found a group of lovely ladies here! tons of information and support. Good luck with your goal, YOU CAN DO IT! hugs everyone rainbowsmiles :rain: |
Slash
I think the mood starts at age 8 and goes until you finally make them leave home lol. rainbows I will take the cold over the heat any day of the week. You get cold, you put more clothes on. You get hot you can't take skin off lol. I am ready for my children to fly the coop. I love the house quiet. I love waking up with the house clean and everything in its place. I had step children before I had children. I have had children since I became an adult. I am all ready for my time. |
I used to crochet, knit, cross stitch, embrodery, you name it. I've left them all for the quilting. It fits me. I have three tops that I need to quilt, two more in progress. Plus a bunch in other various stages! When my niece was still home and my nephew was playing hockey we had to back burner a lot of stuff. She's off to college, he's not playing, a ton of time has opened back up and now it's my time to catch back up and get back into my life. I hope. We're still walking on eggshells with my nephew. He's buried himself in work and school, he's totally buried the emotional aspect of what's happened. Sooner or later it's going to refuse to stay buried and have to be dealt with.
Anyway, back to the quilting. One of the stores we visited is only open regularly from 10-4, Tues-Sat. Not one late evening. Dad says the owner is using it as a hobby, not a business. If it makes money, great, if not, oh well! There's no way I could ever get there on a weekday, I could only ever go on Saturday. Too many other quilt stores are open late at least one night a week, plus many on Sunday. I'm not going to bust a hump to get out to this store, it's not convienent! I'm with Rennie on the cold, Rainbow! I can add sweaters and long johns, I can only take off so much! Although I find eating ice does help cool off a bit. Doesn't last though! I like seasons, the weather shifting and changing. I'm happy here! I think the hardest age so far for us to deal with the kids was 16. They think they know it all and don't need anybody. They get better at 17, then they leave for awhile and can actually begin to appreciate us a bit! That said, hormones are a wonderful thing. My mom can tell when my niece is "due" just by her attitude and PMS symptoms. Good luck either way, you're going to need it! |
Someone talk me off the ledge
I swear the scale is not my friend - Friday weigh in at 151.9 - motivation almost 10 lbs since i started behaving..
Well today, after being good all weekend and exercising 8 days in a row... i'm at 154.2.... ahhhhhhhhhhhh how is that possible???? ugh. feel like quitting now. |

sillycat...perhaps you lost 10 pounds of fat and then added 2 pounds of muscle! :) hang in there !!!! YOU CAN DO IT!
rainbowsmiles |
Thanks Rainbow and Clydegirl
It sure is frustrating over 40.. I will hold that thought Rainbow - 10lbs fat gone 2 lbs muscle added.
May go to measuring rather than that dang scale - or just stay off the darn thing except for once a week. Thanks you guys - so far so good - I haven't raided the fridge - had a grapefruit for breakfast and lean cuisine for lunch. And did my firm hard core fusion dvd. will stick with it! |
It's 3:30am and I'm craving mashed potatoes.
I think that ever since I was hospitalized starting in Oct 2005 and on and off for over a year that my sleep patterns are so messed up. They used to wake us up at 4:30am to do a blood draw. And alot of other times throughout the night. If I don't take something to sleep (like tonight), I just toss and turn. I've tried routines, candles, aromatherapy lotions, warm showers, oregano oil, warm milk. Even when I'm really tired I can't get to sleep. Or I can't stay asleep and wake up at 3 or 4 am and them I'm wide awake. Mom says it's menopause and my docs say it's meds. But when I do take something, I still have to get up at 6:45 and take my daughter to school. I get so tired that I come home and go back to sleep - for 3-5 hours. It's bizarre. I haven't been fatigued like this in a long time. I drank a venti iced latte from sixbucks this morning and came home and slept for 4 hours. They still have no clue on the mouth blisters. I now have kind of a busted up lip too. I'm a hot mess. On the positive: I did hit the gym today with my trainer. He is a little too rough on me so I'm thinking about switching. My sister's two children will be visiting next week for Spring Break, so she bought us all tickets to the Cirque du Soleil show on Saturday. I'm soooo excited!! I have never seen anything like that before. My mom is really thrilled too. The two of us are going to take 3 kids under the age of 7. But I know we all will really like it. I have been trying to eat clean, but I'm just not feeling well. I often hate the internet because sometimes I see that I have symptoms of some pretty serious stuff (lymphoma & also fibromyalgia). It's very scary and discouraging so I've decided to give it up to God and make sure I press my doctors for answers. It was good to check in on y'all. I've missed this place! And I watched BL some tonight as well. I wish Bob was my trainer. He's so calming. |
Jane: I'm so sorry you have to go through all of this. It must be really tiring. It's hard enough to raise kids and work on weight loss without other distractions like that. I hope you start feeling better soon!
Sillycat: I know how frustrating the scale can be! I think it would be a good idea to only weigh once a week, at the same time every week. I think that there is just too much fluctuation throughout the week and that can make you crazy. I thought that TBL was interesting last night. I still don't think that it was completely fair to have the two other members come back, but that's the way it is. I think that both Ally and Mark might struggle after their first week back. Neither one has a lot of weight to lose, so I think that their numbers will fall. I have to say that I think Dan is my favorite now. I love his comments and I am impressed at how he has stepped up in this game. He didn't lose much this week, but I think he'll come back strong next week. My daughter is just driving me crazy right now. It is like she is trying to make me mad. I don't think she'll survive spring break. I told her that if she chooses to be like this, then she better be ready to pay the price. She's so full of attitude! When they get back to school, she's going to be on the track team. I hope that it will wear her out and maybe she can sweat some of this attitude out! Well, better go get ready for work. Woo hoo! |
Janezoe - as a fellow cancer survivor, I know what you are going through - I'm just a little further away from it. They call it hypervigilance and it's very normal - and yes I believe that it can be made worse by scanning the internet - not to mention there are some very bad people who prey on the fear.
Hang in there and take care. The sleep thing has been a problem for me too - and continues to be - haven't figured out the right thing to do there but will at some point. As for your trainer - you want someone who'll push but not do it in a rough way - i'd get another. Take care and enjoy that show - I'd love to hear about it as I've never seen one like that either! Wow, I go MIA for an afternoon and I can hardly catch up! This is totally awesome to have so much chatter going on.
JZ, I'm praying God will grant you all the strength you need. Hang in there. Diane, Kids, kids, kids...they are the definite can't live with them can't live w/o them! My DD also has days when I'm positive she's trying to p me off on purpose. I usually try to handle it with humor. The days when that doesn't slow her down I just seperate her from the rest of the heard. Usually a little "alone time" does the trick. Rainbow, Great to see you back. Kappy, Sounds like your having fun. Cat, Like Clyde said, step back from the edge. It's normal to have weight fluctuations. Does knowing that make it easier? Well, maybe not, but quitting would ensure more gain and continuing will ensure more loss and self asteem gain. Keep going. You're eating right and exercising. It will move. Hang in there. Rennie, Love ya girl! Me, busy nursing everyone through sore throats. I think the most of us just feel yucky because of sinuses. Only my youngest daughter actually has a low grade fever so I'm counting my blessings. I've gotten 3 out of 5 areas sring cleaned and have still found time to walk and eat right. I should ahve plenty of time to be prepared for Easter. Well, gotta run. It's work time for me. Hoping everyone has a terrific day!! |
Hi y'all! Wow, I have a lot of catching up to do here.
My Grandma has always made quilts and I absolutely love them. She made each of her grandchildren a quilt when we graduated from high school (there are 21 of us). She also made a baby quilt for each great grandchild (33 and counting)! She is 91 years old and still going strong. And what can I say about Paula Deen? I have heard so much about her restaurant. I would love to go, but I have seen her cooking on the Food Network and I am like, "Do you really need to add 1/2 a stick of butter to each hamburger patty?" I am sure her cooking would not compare to my Mom's anyway. She is a wonderful southern cook. JaneZoe, I am sorry for what you are going through. I am sure the sleepless nights are making everything much worse. I would switch trainers, too. I am plugging my ears when you all talk about teenagers. My children are 4 and 5 1/2 and already such a challenge. I am scared! I think I am finally over the flu. I have had some great workouts this week and I am down a little bit to 147.4. I am weird in that I like to weigh myself every day. It helps me to stay on plan when I know I am going to be stepping on the scale first thing in the morning. It does go up and down, but as long as I see a downward trend, I am happy. I hope you all have a great day! |
Ward, I too weigh every day, but really only accept and compare the weight on the last day of each month. As long as it's down, even a smidge, that's all that matters.

Hi everyone.
This is how I'm feeling, :headache: :stress:   :tired: :censored:  My period is due as well which doesn't help. Diane I could have written exactly what you said about your daughter. Is there something in the air!! Anyway had to say TBL last night OMG. Jillian's outburst at the weigh in was uncalled for. The week was hard for all of them why single out Brittany. Also when she was at the table with Ally and was making the barf noises when she was eating, how mean . The black team need to stop feeling so sorry for themselves. They don't have to lose big numbers to have a high percentage weight loss. I still prefer Bob. It's gorgeous here today I need to try and get out for a walk this afternoon. I feel more calm now thank you girls. |
