Default Injury, Need Ideas For Exercise...

So for exercise, I will lift my weights, crunches, and walk the dog. Well, my hand is now messed up real bad. Tendon issue, a friend snapped it. Sooo I can no longer grasp things of any real weight. Can't squeeze with that hand. And to walk my giant dog, I need to be able to use both hands for his safety. He is too strong if something happens for just one arm.

Sooo...since I will not go on a walk and leave my companion at home to suffer...I need help on what I can do for the next couple weeks (poor dog )to keep active, burn calories, and tone that does not involve a right hand...

Any ideas?

I used to walk a couple Newfoundlands for a friend (one at a time). They were huuuuge dogs and I could not control them with my hands, so I had a sturdy leather belt that I wore around my waist and attached the leash to.

Do you have a yard you can play in with him? Grab a ball or a stick, throw it with your good hand.

Play 'tag'. My golden used to love playing tag where I'd chase him around. It'd get both of you running and burn calories without using the hand.

Is there someplace nearby that you can take him... woods, beach, etc where he doesn't need a leash?

I am afraid to try the belt idea, as he is a good dog to walk with. But when other dogs come round he jumps up, and kind of lunges. And he is as tall as me standing...I don't want to see who ends up in the dirt, lol.

I could do the tag thing, I've played that before with him. And I could throw the ball and such, good ideas! Thank you.

Our street, mine is the only house. So we can run up and down the road no problem. But other then that, no where he can be without a leash.

is this specifically exercises that you can do *with your dog,* or just on your own? Otherwise, squats kill me every time I do them, and dont' require your hands! Good luck - I'll think more tomorrow.

Also help him to rediscover his tail. Dogs love chasing their own tails. You can run in circles with him!

Hehe, I already will get behind him. And he tries to turn to face me and I run around him.

It can be anything. Doesn't have to be with the dog. I just want to work up a sweat. Squats sounds good!
