Question Pounds Lost vs. Inches Lost: What Have You All Experienced?

Hi Everyone,

I was watching a home shopping channel this morning and they were advertising some really cute Liz Claiborne pinwheel courdoroy pants in several fall colors for a very good price ($21 today vs. $39 normal price). I love courdoroy pants but haven't owned any since I was 21 because I have felt too big to wear them since that time. I decided that even though I'm not at my goal weight, I'd buy some in size 8. I decided on that size because I think I will like how I look at about 38-28-38, which is size 8 (according to the online sizing chart). I was briefly about that size after a very strict diet when I was 28 and I remember feeling very good about how I looked then. I was a size 6 to 8 and weighed 145 at that time (27 pounds less than I weigh now).

So, that got me wondering how much more I need to lose in order to fit into these new pants. I finally got around to adding up all the inches I've lost so far and I've noticed an interesting ratio between pounds and inches lost. It seems as though I've lost 17.5 inches (includes right arm, bust, waist, hips, & right thigh) and 19 pounds, which I am ecstatic about. In order to fit into the new pants, I only need to lose 10 more inches overall. If my current trend continues, that translates into about only about 10-11 more pounds, not 27 pounds! Yipee!! I hope that's true! This was very surprising to me because I really thought I would need to get down to about 145-150 to be a size 8 and about 38-28-38. Now it looks like I will weigh around 160 at that size, which is fine with me. (For me, it's always been more about being comfortable with my size and maintaining my health than what the scale says.)

Has anyone else experienced this? What have your pounds lost:inches lost ratios been like on this plan?

Thanks,

Karen

I have lost 56lbs and 59 inches. The last 2 weeks the inches have been small, last week no inches lost and the week before only 1/2 inch.

Karen- I definitely notice that I have lost more inches and fat on this diet than any other. The lowest weight I have ever been (since I have been keeping track) is 149. I have a bunch of size 10 pants that I was wearing from roughly 149-155#. I have been wearing the size 10's since I hit 160 on IP and now that I am almost out of the 150's they are too big for me. This diet definitely targets fat loss and muscle maintainence.

This is an interesting question but it would only mean something if everyone measured the same number of points. When I started IP my coach gave me a chart that tracked 7 points. Carla said she was measured at, I think, 14. This seems to be the week to be down on coaches. But, think about it, if we all don't measure the same points. . . .

I don't have any experience to share because i'm still in Week 1, but the thought of going down sizes more quickly is enchanting!

I can't wait to read what others have to say.

Linden,

You are right. I was assuming that all the coaches measure the same areas. Mine actually does a chest measurement (right under the bra strap) in addition to the others, so I guess she measures in six places. So, the more places you get measured, the more inches you will realize you've lost. This would make the "ratio" quite different. In my case, it would probably mean I am losing way more inches than pounds, which is consistent with what I've noticed on other plans in the past.

Hi Karen,

My coach weighs us at 7 points: Arm, Chest, Upper Waist, Mid Waist, Lower Waist, Hips and Thigh.

We double the inches lost for Arms and Thighs as we have two of each.

We also find that we lose inches and pounds at a 1:1 ratio on average.

Whenever I have a smaller loss at a WI coupled with a bigger inches loss, I know the scale will be kind to me the following week as long as I remain OP.

I love adding up the inches as that is what everyone can see. The lbs lost is just for my eyes and my fellow forum friends.

Hi Karen. Aside from the inches you lose I think your height will also help dictate what size you will wear. Even the brand will have a bearing. I can fit size 10 some size eights and even a couple of sixes. What I love the most is just feeling so much better. So keep up the great work.

I just completed my 2nd week.

Lbs lost: 7
Inches Lost: 16.5

My weight coach was perplexed that I have lost so many inches.
She asked if I was constipated, and I said "No".

I am very happy with my results.

I am only interested in inchloss in waist against wtloss. Pl will you throw some light on that? I am not recording any inchloss but i have lost around 13-14 lbs. I fit in size 12 pants. I want to fit in size 10 in oct,2011. I just want to know whether that is possible. Workout 5 days a week. Diet 17 days diet.

I have been OP for 4 weeks now. I weighed in this past Friday and again lost weight. My coach explained to me from the beginning she would only measure me every 4 weeks. So this week I weighed in and got measured. To date I have lost 15.4 lbs and 10 inches and I AM THRILLED WITH MY NEW SHAPE!
