Default Crock Pot Cabbage Roll Casserole

This just looks like an awesome recipe, high in protein low sodium, low fat and low cal. I will by trying this cabbage roll (crock pot) dish soon. I can't post the direct link now, but here's the recipe.

Ingredients

1 1 lb roll of Honeysuckle Italian Turkey sausage
1 Onion
4 Cloves Garlic
1 lg can crushed tomatoes
2 cups of cooked brown rice
7 cups of cabbage

Directions

Brown sausge, add onions and garlic and sautee till done. Add to crock pot. Add crushed tomatoes to crock pot.

Clean and shred cabbage. Bring to boil till wilted. Add to crock pot and stir.

Add cooked brown rice to crock pot.

Cook 3-4 hours on high till done. Water can be added if necessary if to dry.

Note: Ground chicken, plain ground turkey or extra lean ground beef can be substitued for the meat.

This does sound good! Anyone know how well it might freeze for small portions? No one else in the house would eat it, but, I love cabbage and could eat this for lunch every day.

Well it sounds like it will have a little grease in it so brown the meat drain the meat and rinse the meat which can take some of the flavor away, but it is the best way to freeze it I would think. I have not made it yet, but freezing meats will cause grease and fat to seperate and it does not look so appealing when you open it, so just rinse and drain the meat real good when making it and then it should freeze fine.

Enjoy. :-)
