Smile Tell me about your running shoes

I've been running so much that I finally realized I was probably going to hurt my knees, etc. if I didn't get proper running shoes. I went to a Marathon Sports store because they watch you run and make suggestions. Turns out that I'm over-pronating and I got the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 11. I'm very pleased with them, it makes a world of difference. I had been wearing some OLD cross-trainers.

Those are the same ones I wear. I had runners knee because of over-pronating and haven't had an issue since. They are definitely worth the price IMO....

I entirely agree that supportive running shoes are vital if you run at all regularly! I started running last summer, and because I was new to it, I wasn't sure if I'd enjoy it or want to keep it up, so I thought I wouldn't go and buy special shoes straight away. About 5 - 6 weeks into my running (I was doing the C25K, so three runs a week), I developed some knee pain (doctor said this was patellofemoral dysfunction), which to be honest, has never really gone back to normal (knee isn't in pain, but hasn't felt totally normal since!).

I picked up a pair of Saucony Hurricane 9s online, which are great. I went to try them out in a specialist running store who identified that I over-pronate, and these seemed really comfortable. I deliberately chose an older style because I'd sooner not have the latest styles, and pay far less money for a really good shoe.

I gave myself several months off running to rest my knee (and because winter running wasn't appealing!), and since restarting running in my shoes, I've had absolutely no trouble at all with any pain or discomfort in my knees. It took a few runs to break them in (there was a little rubbing in the heel area!), but they're so comfortable and supportive now. Definitely worth it!

I had some New Balance running shoes, which were great! I liked them because they are produced in Ireland, so the carbon footprint isn't too massive. However, i had video analysis done and ended up with some Asics (Gel 2160), which cost loads. I hate being European, we have to pay so much more for running shoes!

I have my eye on a rather dashing pair of Mizuno Waves that i saw at the Marathon Exhibition. They are turquoise!

Last summer, I had bought a pair of Nike Air Max Team trainers just for casual use. I almost never wore gym shoes, so they were barely worn when I began running in January. I have absolutely zero knee or shin pain, which I have had troubles with in the past when I attempted running. So, I got lucky and the shoes I already had in my closet work perfectly for running. When it is time to get another pair, I think I may stick with the same ones so I don't have to mess with buying $100 pair of shoes that I am not sure will work out.

I get my shoes at Road Runner Sports and they do the same thing- I LOVE their shoes and have had zero issues since I have switched to them- I buy new shoes at LEAST once a year now (more like twice a year) and I buy enough inserts to change them up every 3 months

Nike Free Run are my current favs. If you run a lot, getting new shoes every 6-12 months is appropriate.

Oh god, the ONLY shoe i can run in is the Mizuno Precision. Its a nutral racing shoe, so not designed for high mileage, unfortunately. But its as though someone at the Mizuno factory has my EXACT foot, cuz ive had all sorts of issues with ither brands (Asics were the WORST on my feet.. massive tendonitis flare up)

Claire- wave runner is a great shoe.... i generall train in those for longer distances because they can stand more mileage. Thats the ONLY thing about mizunos...they dont have as long of a lifespan.... i have to replace mine at least every 6 weeks during running season

Fitnees4Life-- if you run alot, you need to replace MOST shoes every 300-400 miles.

I run in Mizuno Wave Riders and I love them, love them, love them. Awesome shoes...it's amazing how fast the miles pile up even for us slow runners, though; I need to get a second pair to have ready as these are about half way through their running lifespan.

flippychick - That's awesome, so glad to hear you haven't had problems.

tinycities - Great, glad they worked out!

claire0412 - Awesome, maybe you should make the Mizuno Waves a prize for hitting one of your goals.

aimeebell - Glad that works for you.

beerab - yeah, I was thinking once a year too, although I suspect you're "supposed" to do it more often.

fitness4life - Can you believe I was running in ancient cross-trainers? Never again, I will replace!

mkroyer
- Cool that they work so well for you.

calluna
- Yeah, I have heard about buying the new pair and then switching off for awhile until you switch over.

GREAT JOB WITH THE RUNNING, EVERYONE!!!

Yeah I am going to buy them soon (maybe this weekend). My boyfriend maintains it is good to have two pairs of running shoes so you can alternate and give your feet/legs a bit of a change. This is why he has 3 pairs of runners, 3 pairs of spikes (he's a decathlete) and basketball trainers. Also why I only have one pair at the moment, there is no space in our flat for more! This thread has decided it for me, I'm buying these:

This hobby is going to bankrupt me!

Thanks mkroyer for the tip! I run about 20km a week if I am not training for anything in particular. I might use them for my interval sessions (only about 6k twice a week) because they seem lighter than my Asics. I really hate my Asics, but the guy in the specialist shop told me they were perfect for me and they cost €130, so I am damn well gonna wear them and try to adjust to them!

I do not run but I do wearing running shoes : P

I have 2 pairs of 'stability' shoes because I over-pronate, have plantar fasciitis and fallen arches (hence the reason I do not run)

The pair I wear in the gym are Mizuno Waves

And the pair I wear everyday are Asics GEL-Kayanos

The main reason I purchased both shoes was because they're purple but they turned out to be pretty good shoes, especially the Kayanos.
