Exclamation Nearly cried while shopping...

... in a GOOD way!

Today I went to old navy, they were having a dress sale and with easter coming as well as a concert me and the bf decided to do a dressy date for and then a trip to san antonio for a weekend of playing tourist I needed some fitting clothes. I decided I was going to look for a dress or two and a new jean skirt as mine is falling off me.

I knew that old navy sells up to size 20 in their stores and since I have been wearing my size 20 work pants for a few weeks I figured I could likely find something that fit, and that maybe I might get lucky and find a size 18 on the skirt that i could squeeze into so I could keep it longer before it is falling off me.

So I go in, I decided to tackle the dress/es first because easter is next week and the concert is the weekend after whereas the trip is the weekend after that, so I'd have money to spare again the day we leave. So I am wandering around the store and I grab the dresses that look like they might fit my needs and are available in XXL and head to the dressing room... they all look like sacks on me. so now im on the inside. i choose the styles that suited my figure best and went and looked for them in XL. I found all but one, my favorite (of course!) so that one I grabbed in the L. Back to the dressing room I go. The XLs fit correctly as I am now, since they are primarily for things happening in the next couple weeks that is perfect, i continue on the inside.

I look at the third dress, it is a cute green jersey dress, I am considering buying it to shrink into but I am wondering if it is logical... I take a deep breath and decide to try it on to see how close I am to fitting in it. It is only tight in the chest, and since im wearing a padded bra it may even fit if i go braless. The goes into hyper drive, im fitting in a L I am over the moon at this point.

As Ive decided on my dresses I decide its time to suck it up and look at skirts. I find the style I am looking for, all the 20s are sold out so i grab an 18, it looks big so, thinking i am nuts, I decide to grab a 16 in comparison. The 18 is super loose in the waist and slightly tight in the hips. This makes me happy. I look at the 16 doubtfully... I wonder if I should even try, scared that if I try and it is waaaay off itll kill the good mood. I decide to try anyways.... IT FITS!!! I almost started crying, the skirt i wore into the store is a 24 and I started this journey as a a 26/28 and i just put on a 16 and it fit... slightly tight but fit. The style is not what I am looking for so I go look for a style I like in 16. I take it back to the dressing room to make sure the other one wasnt a fluke... this one does not have as much stretch to it so it is tighter but still buttons and zips, I wouldnt want to sit in it at this point but close enough. I bought it, itll fit in the next few weeks.

so my shopping trip, which i was scared to even go on because I was scared i wouldnt find anything and would be the silly fat girl shopping in the normal people's store. and i walked away with two XL dresses a L dress a size 16 (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) skirt and a shrug also size L. I am sooooooooooooooooo jazzed, and still feeling on the verge of crying lol

I'm so excited for you! I remember the first time I had the courage to try on an extra large at a none plus size store and it actually fitting...I did cry. Enjoy the rest of your journey and congrats!

Congrats! I had a similar experience this week. I've really been discouraged because of how slow my weight loss has been lately. Well, I ran to the mall for some other things and tried Zara, a store that I told myself I would not buy ANYTHING from them unless I was in at least a size 42 (something between a US size 10-12 depending on vanity sizing). Anyway, I tried on a few things and I actually find some outfits that I love! I didn't buy anything because we have to save $$ at the moment but eventually I plan on doing so.

I also found a dress there that I looked amazing in but it was way too expensive to buy. I actually went to another store too because I needed a tank top to go under some shirts that are now to big and I ended up buying a size M and it fit just fine! I'm normally still in L's unless the shirt runs big but it was still a wonderful feeling.

Yay for you! That was a lovely post!

I have to take someone shopping with me because I have so much trouble deciding if something fits. After years of wearing "tent" type clothing, I need help to choose clothing.

However, this is a good type of problem to have. It sure beats the days that I would be so upset after trying on clothes that I would hit a fast food drive thru for a burger as a "comfort snack"!

Again, good for you!
