I agree that the most complete way to free yourself of a sugar addiction is to cut as much sugar and simple carbs out of your diet as possible for a few weeks, then slowly add fruit and higher-sugar vegetables back in. Personally I am currently eating less than 15 g of sugar per day with no artificial sweeteners of any kind (good, bad, or indifferent) and I'm very happy with the food I'm eating. When I first saw that number I though there was no way I could get that low but I assure you it's possible and enjoyable.

I lost 40 lbs between Nov 2010 and Nov 2011 doing low-sugar for my "50 Pounds in 50 Weeks" project. I bounced halfway back up so I'm back for more!
