Default Heart Palps???

ack! has this ever happened to anyone?? I woke up last night to pee, and when i came back to bed my heart was beating weirdly! it's like all of a sudden i was AWARE of it, it was thudding and freaked me the **** out ~ it lasted almost an hour!!!

I called a friend who's a GP and he said it sounded like a heart palpitation and wasn't serious but to see my doctor of course

anyone else ever had this????

Yep, I had them all the time before I went low carb/sugar.

It can be related to too much caffeine, or sugar. It can also be related to anxiety. I went to a cardiologist because I was having them so often (I weighed 278 pounds) and he said not to worry, but to cut out caffeine, stress, and lose weight.

(I don't have them anymore unless I overeat or have too much sugar).

In the middle of the night I would suspect there may have been a dream of which you were totally unaware and have no memory but it invoked a strong reaction.

I have experienced this but there could be other reasons.

I also have virtually no stress.

Last year out of the blue while riding down the road I had an all out panic attack (didn't know that's what it was then) that lasted about an hour. I thought I was having a heart attack. I had another one a week later and went to the doctor. It turned out that I was slightly deficient in b-12. I got shots for a couple of months and then switched to a good quality supplement. I haven't had one since.

Not sure how old you are, but it's common to have them in perimenopause and menopause

My mother (who is an RN) says they're like a eye twitch but in your heart. Yes, you should get it checked out. No, it's probably not serious.

I get heart palps all the time. For me, it's directly related to anxiety and they last for days. When I worked out all the time I would get them when I skipped a good workout. It was like I had pent up energy and it was coming out some how! It can totally freak you out.

My mother gets them when she doesn't sleep enough.

I got them a bit in pregnancy a few years back. They told me it was normal. Doubled blood volume. Then they returned several months ago at night when trying to fall asleep. For me it was anxiety related. But my doc gave me an test in the office (ekg?) which came back slightly weird. So then I had a stress test running on the treadmill then they look at your heart and I was cleared. My baseline normal might be just slightly off which is common I guess.

It is scary. I never had pain or loss of breath though. Just a heightened sense of feeling it beat and once in a while it would do an extra kick.

ack, thanks Dumplin! I'd miss posting LOL I'm super fond of being alive!!

Went to the doc this morning and she's sure it's a one-off. I had a full heart workup not too long ago and everything was okey dokey. As long as no pain, sweating or dizziness or shortness of breath happens at the same time, it's 'one of those things' i guess??? crazy business!!! i'm NOT a fan lol

how funny my first thought is "are you KIDDING me, i bust my a$$ to lose a whole PERSON in weight and NOW i get a heart attack???" lol i was so annoyed!

I've had them from time to time - it usually happens in swarms! I take fish oil and magnesium regularly for heart health (heart disease runs in the family) and normally if I take them regularly they stay away. My triggers are too little sleep, sugar, caffeine, and anxiety (which can be aggravated by bad dreams - I imagine even the ones I don't remember!).

Oh, I know exactly what you mean. I have them every once in a while, and I think it's stress related for me. It's like my heart beats extra hard and is thumping out of my chest ~ it usually happens for a few seconds and then goes away, but when it happens I'm always telling my husband, "If I collapse, tell them (the ambulance) that it's my heart!!" because it freaks me out so badly!

@Emme, that's what I told my hubby too!!! I said wow, if i'm on the floor, tell them it's my heart! It lasted a whole HOUR so I even got dressed, wouldn't want to go in an ambulance in my nightie LOL

Doesn't it seem like a major design FLAW that everything hinges on one stupid heart?? if it stops, game over, no back up! no fair lol

I've been reading up on it, and I thought an hour was long - sometimes they last 24 hours?!!!! nooooooooo ok i gotta stop thinking about this or the stress will give me another one!

These are very unpleasant and scary too. I'm so glad you had it checked out Trazey since cardiac symptoms can often be overlooked in women or attributed to other things.

Be well!

I get them when I eat too much sugar... it's a good motivation to not eat sugar! I've found that exercise and b6 and b12 vitamins helps.
