Default Miata?

My fiance had to get a "new" used car, as his old car was totaled in a rear end collision a couple weeks ago. He was on a limited time constraint due to work and paying for a rental (beyond what the insurance covered), he ended up getting a 2001 Mazda Miata. If I'm not comfortable in it, he says he'll get a different car, I'll be able to see in a month as that's when I visit him next.

I just wanted to know if anyone around my size and height has had experience with one of these cars. My uncle says they're hard to get in and out of, but he's about 6 feet tall, so that makes a big difference. I have good mobility, and it's getting better every day. To clarify I won't be driving it any time soon (I don't have my license), so the steering wheel isn't an issue. I'm hoping I'll have no problem with it. It's a gorgeous car and he loves driving it.

I haven't been in that particular car, but I actually just bought myself a convertible of similar size. I actually call it my "skinny person car" because I always envision the owners of such cars as tiny. However, I actually find it much more roomy/comfortable than I expected so I am sure you will fit just fine.

thanks Skinny. Honestly, my parents are more worried about it than I am. I'm an only child and they try to baby me to death, they think their opinion should count more than any others. When neither of them even knew what the car was like until I showed them.

I think you will have no problem as a passenger. It was the darn steering wheel that bugged me when I drove a small car.

Have fun - spring is a great time to 'tool' around!

I had a Mazda Miata when I was younger. The only time I had a problem with it was when I was towards the end of my pregnancy. It was pretty funny watching me try to get out of it apparently. I don't think you'll have any problem with the passenger side. It's definitely a fun little car. =) I miss mine.

When I was at 292, I owned a small convertible and the only problem I ever had was that it's really low to the ground and it took a fair bit of momentum to drag myself out of it without looking ridiculous. No problems at all with sitting in it, the seatbelt fitting, or anything like that. At 5'3", you shouldn't have quite the same problem with the getting out that I had at 5'10", so just sit back and enjoy how much fun it is.

We have one. I'm sure you will fit in it, how comfortable you will be I'm not sure. I am very long legged (32" inseam) and I find my knees tend to hit the dashboard. On a long trip you might find your left leg can't really straighten out, at least mine doesn't, I have to turn my foot inward some. Yes this car was my husband's idea, I much prefer a bigger car. The trick to getting into the Miata is to sort of fold at the waist and go in butt first. Good luck LOL

Thanks ladies. My legs are short, so I think I'll be ok. I'm looking forward to going out with him in his "sexy car" as we call it. We're going to be taking a road trip to visit a friend of his who moved out of state (yes we have small luggage), it's going to be a blast! I'lll let you know in April when I get to his place how it "feels".

I wouldn't want to waste the salesman's time. I can wait less than a month to try his. His mom says we can borrow her car if we need the extra space.
