Default Shirataki Noodles (Miracle Noodle / Skinny Noodle)

Anyone tried the miracle noodle (shirataki noodles -- no carbs, no calories, no gluten) on the MRC plan?

I used them last night for a superb stir fry. I miss potatoes and bread and pasta, so I am thinking I have found a fix!

If anyone knows of any reason why this isn't such a good idea, I am open to your thoughts! They are packed with fiber too!

I wondered about them. I heard Dr. Oz speaking praises about them. Where did you buy yours at? Just like you.. I too miss potatoes, bread and pasta! But I am so glad they taste good because that is what I was really wondering.

I make a yummy chicken & shirataki noodle soup with them.

We had a conversation about them in the recipes thread, and StrugglingNicole said that they aren't really on our plan:
I don't know if you got the answer to this question yet or not, but I took a shopping class and asked about these noodles. The answer I got was that they are on the vegetarian menu, so if that is what you are on they are approved. However, if you are not on the vegetarian menu they are not OP. They are a great maintance option, I'm told!

But to be totally honest, I still eat them about once a month or so, when I get a craving for a noodle soup. Personally, I think if you can eat them occasionally without it affecting your losses, then go for it. I occasionally slide not-totally-OP foods into my menu once in a while (like cooked tomatoes sometimes) and it hasn't affected my weight loss yet. If it does start to affect it, I'll quit straying and stick to the plan as is.

okay, thanks for the information.
I just can't really imagine if I substitute them for a carb of an evening why that would be a problem, but then again, I know MRC is all suppose to be formulated so the foods work together, so.

anyway, I intend to give them a good hard try no matter. I loved my stir fry so much. guess I better not think I should do this each and every evening though. dang teacherlady, you blew my fun!

can you share your soup recipe with me? I was just thinking of adding them into the MRC HNS chicken boullian.

oh, and I was using the Braggs Amino Acid (rather than soy sauce). Tasted good too.

Sure--here it is:

Makes approximately 4 servings (4 oz protein, veggies, & 1 HNS per serving, I wasn't really sure how to count the noodles, as they are considered protein on the vegetarian diet, I think).

This recipe stores well in the fridge for leftovers, but the noodles get a weird texture when frozen and re-heated, so I wouldn't freeze the leftovers.

Ingredients
* 1 lb Boneless Skinless Chicken Breast
* 2 medium Zucchini (raw)
* 4 medium stalks Dole Celery
* 3 stalk Fresh GREEN ONIONS
* 1 cup Mushrooms
* 4 cups water
* 4 packets chicken boullion HNS
* 8 oz Tofu Shirataki (spaghetti)

CROCK POT DIRECTIONS:
1) put veggies in crock pot, put chicken on top of veggies.
2) add seasonings (oregano, tyme, parsley, onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, red pepper powder)
3) add water
4) cook on low 4 hours, or high 2 hours
5) remove chicken breasts & cut into pieces. Return to soup.
6) Drain shirataki noodles and microwave 1 min. Add to crock pot. Add HNS and stir.
7) Cook on low another 10 mins for noodles to heat through.

STOVE TOP DIRECTIONS:
1) put veggies in pot, put chicken on top of veggies.
2) add seasonings (oregano, tyme, parsley, onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, red pepper powder)
3) add water
4) Bring to a boil. Reduce heat & simmer for 1 hour.
5) remove chicken breasts & cut into pieces. Return to soup.
6) Drain shirataki noodles and microwave 1 min. Add to pot. Add HNS and stir.
7) Cook on low another 10 mins for noodles to heat through.

Joy, I am so glad you like them. I like them too. I did a bit of experimentation and now use them in lasagnas, casseroles, soups and all sorts of things. You can even use them in dessert.

I have the gluten free options for starch that I have posted before & underneath the box that shows the options (like potato, sweet potato, brown rice, etc) it says "any gluten free bread or pasta product can be consumed in 40 calorie servings in place of starch for Meta Slim and Meta Balance"
I was talking to a friend that is doing this on her own and she has used the noodles. We don't see why you can't use them because they are a starch and they are gluten free so the pretty much fit the criteria. As long as it is only a 40 calorie serving I think it should be fine.

Okay, now this is good news. Thanks so much shannysmomma!

I can imagine anything being any better in a stir fry -- not anything!
I rinsed them well, then placed them on parchment paper in a backing dish in a hot oven as the directions specified from Miracle Noodle which left them without the fishy odor they have when you first open them, as they are packed in a fishing-smelling liquid. I did not taste that at all though. And I cooked them a bit in the stir fry which changed (softened) their consistency some. So I liked that. Good luck if you give them a try.

well, if you order from company, www.miraclenoodle.com,
but I may have seen them on amazon as well.

I just got the angel hair noodles, but the others are probably great too.

The organic section of your grocer should have them, or in an organic or whole foods store. They're usually sold near the tofu, in the refrigerated section. Our Kroger's has them in that section. My HyVee keeps them with the tofu near the organic produce.
