Default Digital Scale or Me????

So...

Got on the scale last night and it's back to 165 pounds.

I spent ALL last week at 164 and then starting counting calories on this past Monday. Monday night the scale was down to 162, which seemed about right having not moved at all the past week, cleanly OP.

So why am I back to 165???? Is it possible that it's water retention? My TOM is not even close.

Feeling awful this morning

Weight fluctuantes a lot from day to day, try to do an average weight for the week. If I consume a little more salt one day for sure the following day m'y weight increase, this is when I increase my water intake and eat fruits and vegetables that are high in potassium.

I had this issues this morning, I personally think it was because I didn't drink enough water yesterday (or rather, for the past COUPLE days). Hopefully all works out and it goes back down!

Weight fluctuation can happen at any time - not just TOM and for any reason. Most people that are in maintenance allow a 5 lb. span before they reign it in. it would drive you mad to have to maintain one number forever.

just take it in stride and keep going.

I prefer to weigh in the AM. Weighing in the evening may show more fluctuations, especially depending on what you ate, how much you drank and how much your sodium intake was. Also measuring your waist is pretty reliable as a barometer of weight loss. Are you taking any measurements?

Yeah, never weigh at night. Always weigh at the same time and most prefer to do it in the morning. And, really only weigh once a week. You'll drive yourself crazy!

Or, if you are addicted to weighing daily as I am, average your weights for the week. Never, ever weight at night IMHO. It's almost always more than morning weight!

I weigh myself every morning right after i wake up. its a nice daily confidence booster when you see that scale going down even if its by .8 still makes you feel like your doing everything right. I keep track of it and then see how much i lose in that week.

I only weigh first thing in the morning as well. I get on the scale right before I get dressed for work.

Thanks ladies --

At our old house I did always weigh in, after using the bathroom, and totally ahem, in the buff, after waking up.

In this house the only place I can leave the scale without my husband constantly moving it is in the downstairs bathroom. More often than not it's too cold and I'm too asleep to remember to go downstairs before I get dressed.

I think I will have to stick with trending. I was just so upset because it has actually happened before that the scale will suddenly jump, and stay there, as if it has reset itself.

As an update, it was at 163 yesterday, so I'm guessing that it's just my body adapting to a bit less food than I had been eating (now that I'm counting calories) - probably water retention.

you could get dressed to go downstairs and then undress before you get on the scale. That's what I do.

And weighing daily helped me see that yes, my weight will fluctuate, but more often than not if I pick a day as the "official track" day, it will be on a general downward trend.

Or buy a second scale. Some are pretty cheap.

I think someone on the boards here told me once that in the middle of their cycle (near ovulation) they were always up 2-3 pounds. I was noticing the same kind of weight fluctuation that you mention here and posted a thread b/c I was so frustrated! When I thought about it the timing would have been about right and I started noticing that increase each month around that time. I also found that the weight went right back down after a few days.

Litar - That's really interesting!! I had never heard that before, but I think I'll time it out for next month too, and see if the same happens.
