Default If you're dying for cake...

and let's face it, we all do at times, I tried something goofy but it worked! from the "Hungry Girl" cookbook & website

1 cake mix - whatever kind, and 1 can of diet soda! OMIT the eggs & oil the package says to put in.

I tried a chocolate cake with diet coke, and a lemon cake with diet 7 up and both were amazing and not greasy, just kind of awesome -- made cupcakes with it and no one noticed they weren't 'real'

i know cake mixes are the devil, as they have hydrogenated frankenstein ingredients, but i thought i'd pass along the info if anyone was interested!

I make these occasionally and freeze them. They are a nice quick snack if I am craving something sweet. Yes, I know they aren't good for you but I think it is better for me than heading to the bakery and getting something really bad!

So do you just bake as usual then?

That is so. Weird.

I have made this with white cake mix and diet strawberry drink. It was good. I agree that it is not good for you but it is better than some cakes.

Never heard of this! Brilliant. I will try next time I need to make a cake. (I will not make wanting to try this my excuse to have unfounded cake!!!)

That sounds so odd, but tasty! I would think the soda added in would give it a lighter, fluffier texture (the idea of bubbles and cake make it seem so light to me!).

My roommate and I discovered microwave mug cakes one night while craving cake but far too un-motivated to go out in the snow! It's the perfect amount - one large mug got split between the two of us and it was the perfect quick-fix to cake-cravings (we would also drop the eggs, lower the butter, and cut out some sugar to keep it a BIT healthier!). I used to freeze things to keep myself from eating them too fast, but then discovered that most cupcakes and cookies are just as tasty to me when frozen solid! So one serving size of cake is a better system for me, personally.

I love making this cake at work,we never have cake stuff on hand at the jail but one day a week I do have to cook supper for the prisoners, if they have been good I bring a mix and take a pop from the comissary. An easy and cheap treat, everyone loves it!

It definately is not fluffier tho. Sometimes it comes out normal but depending on the brand of mix it can be pretty rich and dense. Also the cooking time can be up to double what the box says. I like to top it with FF cool whip or dust with powdered sugar and I also make it in cupcakes.

If you have to have cake - this is a great solution!

French Vanilla cake mix with Dt. Root Beer is delish
Chocolate Cake with Dt. Dr. Pepper is good too!

Brownie mix w/a can of black beans is good too. You just blend the beans until smooth, add to the brownie mix (omit eggs and oil) and bake. I feed them to my boys (and they know their brownies), without telling them what I did. When I asked them how they were, they said they were okay, but, not the best. However, I thought they were pretty good and fixed the sweet tooth I was having. They did end up eating the rest of them though, so I guess they were not to bad! LOL! I never did tell them what I did. I just told them they were Weight Watcher brownies...

I am definitely going to try this. If any of you have Kroger in your area, they carry a diet chocolate soda and also a chocolate cherry that are awesome. I am going to try this with chocolate cake and chocolate soda.
