Twas The Month After Christmas
Twas the month after Christmas and all through the house
Nothing would fit me, not even a blouse.

The cookies I'd nibbled, the eggnog I'd taste.
All the holiday parties had gone to my waist.

When I got on the scales there arose such a number!
When I walked to the store (less a walk than a lumber).

I'd remember the marvelous meals I'd prepared;
The gravies and sauces and beef nicely rared,

The wine and the rum balls, the bread and the cheese
And the way I'd never said, "No thank you, please."

As I dressed myself in my husband's old shirt
And prepared once again to do battle with dirt---

I said to myself, as I only can
"You can't spend a winter disguised as a man!"

So--away with the last of the sour cream dip,
Get rid of the fruit cake, every cracker and chip

Every last bit of food that I like must be banished
Till all the additional ounces have vanished.

I won't have a cookie--not even a lick.
I'll want only to chew on a long celery stick.

I won't have hot biscuits, or corn bread, or pie,
I'll munch on a carrot and quietly cry.

Evilwidget, glad you enjoyed it. I had this poem posted on my wall growing up. I always felt it so motivating.

Earlier this year, when I was starting this journey, I got a tattoo. It's a bunch of musical notes that start on my left foot and wind their way around my ankle. On the foot are the words DEFY GRAVITY.

The song is Defying Gravity from the musical "Wicked". Whenever I've having a bad day, I look down and sing the words of that song (usually in my head, but not always - LOL). Here are my two favorite sections:

"Something has changed within me. Something is not the same. I'm through with playing by the rules of someone else's game. Too late for second guessing. Too late to go back to sleep. It's time to trust my instincts - close my eyes and leap!"

Every day, on my Facebook page, I post a quote about what I am thinking about or feeling that day. Just reading the quotes online to find the right one for the day - is always helpful and positive for me.

I love and adore the singer/songwriter Dar Williams. One of her songs, "You're Aging Well", includes lyrics that can still bring me to tears, even after all these years. They remind me of where I come from, and where I can go, and why it's worth it:

I will post some later, because quotes are my fave things evar. haha. My manager got me a quote book for xmas! Cuz I'm forever saying, "Oh, there is this quote I like...." and sharing it.

I've always been a sucker for good song lyrics, and quotes. The one that sticks out to me is "I'm just out to find the better part of me" by John Ondasik (better known as Five for Fighting).
A few great feel good songs that always inspire me, or make me smile are Feelin' Groovy by Simon and Garfunkel, I Feel the Earth Move by Carole King, and Mr. Blue Sky by ELO.
