Default Day 1?

So, I spent all weekend planning meals, making grocery lists, getting my iPod updated and ready for the gym, washed all my workout clothes, pulled out my gym sneakers, etc. Basically, I have laid the path for beginning. Then, today I woke up and didn't go to the gym. I woke up early enough to go, but couldn't get my butt out the door. I am following my eating plan and have no doubt I will stick to that. But, I couldn't motivate myself to get out in the cold and go to the gym.

I feel like this is my first failure - and it's only day one. Sheesh. I won't let this deter me (I hope!), but I am disappointed in myself. Maybe I can convince myself to go work out later in the day.

I hope everyone else got off to a more roaring start!

I am with ya. It is so cold, and I have to get up so early to get the fiancee and kids ready for work/school that those precious few minutes staying in bed just seduce me! LOL.

I am actually looking into joining a gym with evening classes.....

You have already made a huge step by mentally readying yourself for this journey. Take it one step at a time. Start today by eating right. Then tomorrow try that gym again. Do not get down on yourself about it, it won't happen overnight, but each step you take toward your goal is a positive one!

I started a couple of weeks before Christmas, trying to better my eating, etc. I still have been wrestling with the same few pounds since the holidays have been torture, but now know that I can lose if I stick with it. I started today out sort of the same way. Had planned on getting up early to hit the eliptical machine and simply couldn't bring myself out of bed early enough.
So....I will start tonight. But I am not beating myself up over it, just sticking with the diet part of it and mentally focusing on a new beginning.

it sounds like you are off to a good start with your plan and meals and that as far as exercise goes you just haven't started yet. hopefully, today was better for you?

work out videos in the living room? works for me; i hate the cold and the gym.

I was reading that eating plays 90% role on weight loss anyways

Eating is 80 or 90 percent of weightloss, so you are off to a great start! Don't give up on your healthy eating and planning! Start working out a little if that is all you can handle right now, then work up to more.

I know i'm a day late on this but I thnk it's important not to overfocus on what you did wrong and try to reaffirm what you're doing right!

You have 2 options here- 1 is to be ok with skipping the gym for today; 2 is to create a backup plan- if you didn't go in the morning, can you work out in the evening? Personally, I would gain the most benefit from option 2, but either is ok as long as you stop beating yourself up

Don't feel like a failure. It took me a couple of weeks AFTER changing my diet, to actually start exercising. Many people take even longer than that. Don't worry, it'll come. Exercise is just a natural progression of a healthy lifestyle. Besides....diet is 80-90% of fat loss anyways. Congrats on your first day!

Thank you all so much! I decided to be super-happy yesterday about my eating, and to focus on that for the week 1. I don't want to go "all-in" at first and burn out like I usually do. So, if I get a strong urge to hit the gym this week, I'll go. If not, I will start next week! :-)

I need to remind myself that this is a lifestyle change, not a crash diet. And, eventually, I will WANT to go to the gym!

Thanks for your support - this community is great!!!! :-)

Very understandable, this is why I became a strict at home workout type of person, Ive never been one to like to get out in the cold or hot or whatever weather and go to the gym. So until I started working out at home I never lost any weight, doing it at home gives me NO EXCUSES. 40lbs later, I can say it works.
