Question Experience with Kettlebell Bootcamp

I've decided I need to give into the fact that I'm past the point where cardio alone is going to get me the results I want to see. After poking around on the interwebs, I decided to give kettlebells a try. I ordered Angie Millers Kettlebell Bootcamp DVD, as it seems to have gotten the best overall reviews on amazon.

That being said, I'm not sure how many of those reviews were written by robots - so I was curious as to whether any of you fine ladies and gents have used it. Or what your experiences with Kettlebells are in general. Effective? Not effective?

Thanks!

If you want to view a preview, you can look at collagevideo.
http://www.collagevideo.com/item.aspx?item=5658 and they also have reviews.

I don't know this particular DVD but I work with kettlebells. This DVD seems to have some of the familiar kettlebell workouts which is good although her form seems a bit off on the swings, not sure what it is.

I personally love kettlebells myself but I'm generally a bit wary of some of the new DVDs that have come out as they tend to use kettlebells how you could use dumbbells rather than using them to their full potential.

I second the request for a good kettlebell DVD! This angie miller one doesn't tell you [in my opinion] proper form for many of the moves, and seems very step aerobics like. [Note, I've never done step aerobics, so maybe this DVD would be simple for those fmailar with the steps. I'm not that person. And I don't want to do step aerobics.] There is a tutorial section, but she only covers like 7 moves and thre are many on the video. Like this "cutrsy" move, which is a weird sidways lunge that seems less about the kettlebell [as it sits on the floor], and more about making my knees sound like rice crispies!

Any ideas what video WILL show me the proper form. Or can I just like youtube them? If I do youtube them, who is a good person to pay attention to? From what I've read, there seem to be a number of fitness people jumping on the kettlebell bandwagon, and using them improperly. I don't want to learn incorrectly.

Sure! I love kettlebells, love talking about kettlebells, own up to a 53 lb kettlebell

There are a lot of good/bad videos out there on youtube but I've found some good ones.

Crossfit includes kettlebells in their workouts and they have a good video on the kettlebell swing. They show you what a good kettlebell swing looks like and a bad one. The bad one looks similar to the one shown in Angie miller's video clip.

Crossfit also has a number of video demos but since they aren't pure kettlebells, you'd have to look through to find the kettlebell ones.

I love Art of Strength. The premier kettlebell certification is the RKC (Russian Kettlebell Certification) which means you have to be able to demonstrate and teach kettlebell movements. The owner of Art of Strength is a holder of that cert. Luckily for us, he posts videos on form on his website:

He also sells videos. They are a bit more pricier than normal videos but their production quality is good.

DragonDoor is run by the guy that is credited for bringing kettlebells to the US, runs the RKC cert and they have a number of DVDs on their site. They are all good but the production quality isn't so great. I have "The Kettlebell Goddess Workout" which is really good but wow production quality is lacking Basically, they recorded a bunch of moves and then put them together into focused workouts. So they may have 10 kettlebell moves but put 5 of them in one workout, 5 in another, some may overlap, etc.

And in terms of more mainstream workouts, I recommend the GoFit ones. (Just don't tell my Crossfit buddies that I said that). I think they introduce kettlebells in a friendly way that appeals to the masses. The thing they don't apparently tell you is you will need to increase your weight.
