Default Vegas baby!

So the husband and I are planning our first ever trip to Las Vegas next year, and we're wanting to plan in advance. We need advice on hotels. We want to stay somewhere likely on the strip...somewhere nice, but not the top-of-the-line expensive places. Something mid-range maybe?

Can anyone help!?

Hi I live in Vegas. I would try the middle of Las Vegas Boulevard. Low numbers are a little well 99 cent shrimp cocktail if you get it. Like Circus Circus and Sahara.High numbers on LVBLVD are like Mandalay bay. You may get a deal on a really expensive hotel like the Venetian, Paris,Mandalay by going when they arent full. But consistently the deals will be in the middle ground I would try Monte Carlo or Caesars.Hope this helps. Have fun you look great!

I'm not a vegas fan but my parents had a free weekend at the Paris I tagged along with many years ago and I thought it was a pretty decent hotel.

I also liked going to the Hard Rock but that was off the strip. Maybe why I liked it

DH and I went last summer and split our time between downtown and the strip. Stayed at the Golden Nugget (nicest hotel downtown) for $39/night. Then we went to THEhotel @ Mandalay Bay for the rest of the trip. I got on their email list and took advantage of a 48 hour sale they had...got a suite at THEhotel for something like $89/night! VERY nice place. Mandaly/THEhotel are at the far south end of the strip...so not the best choice if you want to be in the middle of the action, but an excellent deal for the lovely suite and view we got! Of course this was mid-week in the middle of summer, but I still get pretty good offers from them for other off-peak times. You can go to their website to get on the mailing list for free. Same thing for Golden Nugget or probably any other hotel you're interested in.

Otherwise my mid-price/mid-strip suggestions would be the Flamingo or Bally's or maybe Planet Hollywood. Imperial Palace is cheap and well-located, but most people don't recommend it. Spend a few more bucks and you'll probably be happier.

Have fun...I love Vegas!

You can get reasonable rates. after all they make the money on gambling. I have stayed at MGM Grand, Sahara, Circus Circus and others. You can get meals all the way from cheap to super expensive. Try the buffets, they are usually outstanding and reasonable.

For location, cost and outdoor pool area I would recommend Flamingo.

We just got back from our first trip to vegas and got a great deal off Travelocity which included hotel and airfare together. I would assume you are flying from TX? You might want to check out the package deals. A lot of the expensive hotels are reduced on Expedia and Travelocity. Oh, and we found the same deal on Travelocity for cheaper than Expedia.

We stayed at the Venetian, which I would completly recomend, but I suppose that is one of the most expensive ones. You can however do almost everything you want to do there so you probably don't need to rent a car (we didn't, but we did cab to a few places and take a city bus tour with some friends). Also, flying in we saw Lake Mead, which looked just amazing to go to for a day trip. Next time I want to rent a car and drive over there for some hiking.

Agree with Wildflower that you really don't need a rental car in Vegas. Walking up and down the strip was a lot of fun. There are buses that take you to downtown and the outlets.

Room rates have come down a lot. Friend of mine was able to stay at the Bellagio for $99 a night.

I really recommend the Westin Causarina. It's not on the strip, but it's right off the strip. I only stayed there once but it was like staying at The Pottery Barn.

You can see reviews and compare prices for any hotels on www.tripadvisor.com It's my favorite travel website!

Have fun!

My mother in law has been a regular at Ballys for many years so she gets great rates sometimes for us.....we also stay at Luxor a lot. Plus Angie loves the spa tickets she gets there...hers and mine

We don't spend much time in the room and these are quite fine with usually good rates. If you plan ahead you may be able to get something higher end at a better rate...maybe. These are both pretty decent middle+ of the road on the strip.

You will probably spend more time walking to all the casinos to check them out rather than staying in the one you sleep in, especially your first time there.

We take the tram at the Mandalay Bay/Luxor and just get off where we want or just walk to each casino. Easy to do when you know the ones you want to go into. No car needed!! If you plan to stay on the strip or cab/bus downtown. Shuttles run to your hotel from the airport.

We do simple things there but two things we always do is get lunch and drinks at Toby Keith's Bar at Harrah's, I really suggest it if you like him. We also try to find time for Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville.

Angie was there with her sisters not too long ago, she said we were going to stay in a new place next time we go...I will get back to you on that one...I forgot. EDIT ~ Planet Hollywood

Have a great time!

My husband and I are going to Vegas in a few weeks on the 4th, it'll be our first time there!! Eeeeek. We are staying at Hilton which is off the strip but there is a monorail that runs from the Hilton to the strip. I think the rooms here are pricey (his room is paid for by military for the Respiratory Therapy convention).
