I went dress shopping yesterday. I tried on 10+ dresses. I know in all the magazines and such, it says try just a few on at once and meditate for awhile. But that's definitely not my style of decision making, lol. I want to finish a project once it has started, so I was thrilled that I was able to find a dress the day I started looking. I definitely had the "this is the one!" butterflies, and after I put it on, I didn't like any of the others.
I went into the appointment with a very clear idea in my head about what I wanted to wear. I liked ruching, sweetheart neckline, A-line, with no huge train. Looking through all the magazines and browsing online, that's what I was drawn to. The first few that I put on that matched my criteria perfectly were just very...underwhelming. I liked them, they were pretty dresses, and I had one that I liked the most. I decided that was the one, and I was just one of those girls that never got the say-yes-to-the-dress moment.
My consultant was awesome though, and she could tell that I wasn't totally thrilled. She asked me specifically what it was that I wasn't liking about the dresses. I told her they felt stiff and I had this vision of them being organic and soft and flowy when I moved. Not a rigid structure. She had a lightbulb moment and said she wanted me to try on a few completely different ones to kinda cleanse my vision and then she had a specific one in mind for me to try. So I tried on a huge poofy ball gown dress that I got a kick out of. I actually liked it quite a bit, but it wasn't me at all. And a few others that were totally different from what I had been trying.
And then she brought this one out. When I put it on in the changing room, I knew instantly that it had the flowy slinky feel that I was after. And once I saw it in the mirror, I got that overload of "ahhh I'm getting married in this pretty dress!" emotions, haha. It's elegant, classy, a bit out of the ordinary, but at the same time it's almost old fashioned vintage. Like a 40's Hollywood throwback kinda. Everyone shopping and all the consultants oohh-ed and ahh-ed, haha. I didn't want to take it off. I tried my other top picks on, but they were so not the ones.
Aaaanyways, enough of my blabbing. Here it is
I'm wearing an 8 here, and they ordered me a size 6 that will still probably need to be taken in a bit. So this one isn't as figure hugging and flattering as mine will be.
I'll use this headpiece in a low messy/loose side bun with a veil coming from under my hair. It has more of the 40's flare. And my guy is an Army officer and will be in his dress blues which will go along with the vintage vibe.
And this is one of my two bridesmaids. These are the dresses they'll wear. Aren't they cute and classy and not too bridesmaidy?? I love them. My wedding is mostly red and white with gold accents (wintery, but not christmasy). So my girls will be wearing this red dress with some strappy gold shoes.
Hehe, sorry for the long winded post. Somebody has been watching too much Say Yes to the Dress!! But I'm absolutely thrilled
