Default My Blood work results

Dr. called me today....my A1C was 6.5 - one year ago it was 6.0 but I went downhill from there! I am sure these last 8 weeks of improved diet caused it to be as low as it is. I expect the next one to be better. My overall cholesterol was only 132 and he said that was great. Liver, kidneys etc all good. My HDL (good) cholesterol was a little low but he said exercise will help that. Good thing since I just recently started regular exercise and I will be continuing with that. He said keep up the weight loss and that I am doing great! Woot!! Can't wait for my next visit in 6 weeks.

Congrats! I've read that losing just 10% of your body weight does WONDERS for your health, keep up the good work and I'm sure the news at your next appointment will be ever better! Good luck!

I also got my A1C results back yesterday.....5.9!! The past few months have been a challenge, so I was expecting worse. I was diagnosed with Type 2 almost two years ago. At that time, my A1C was 7.2. My goal is to be off the meds completely!

Keep up the good work and the positive results will follow.

That's great! I am hoping mine is under 6 next time. Did your doctor say you could be off meds totally? I am asking because the NP I saw last week told me even if I was at a normal weight with perfect blood sugars I would still need to be on the minimum Metformin 500mg a day. She said my Dr. may have a different take on it. Why would I have to be on Metformin if my blood sugars are normal? I also could have sworn my Dr. told me before that if I lost 100 pounds I probably wouldn't need the medication, but that was almost 2 years ago so my memory could be wrong.

Mary,
It has been my experience that Medical Professionals will tell us different things.I've learned I cannot take to Heart everything I'm told.Diabetics can lose Weight and get BS under such great control that they no longer require Medication (s).This is a lifestyle change and one we will need to maintain for the rest of our life.
