Default Diet.... soda... addiction!!

I have a serious addiction. I tell my self I will quit drinking it over and over again. Its dehydrating, bad for my teeth, keeps me from drinking the water I should ( especially since I need all the energy I can get)... its horrible for me, I know. Have any of you quit diet soda?

I quit and return. I will quit for weeks or months at a time. My only suggestion is moderation. How much are you drinking?

It can be as little as 20 oz's a day, or a two liter a day.

Do you think it is the caffeine? Or is it the carbonation? I have one shelf in my fridge solely dedicated to bottles of water, I keep it chock full. No I'm not a tree hugger and I don't care about plastic bottles. But with my water set up this way, I am more inclined to drink it more.

Perhaps you could start weaning yourself off. Buy it by the 12 oz cans. But DO NOT stock it in your fridge. Put 1 in at a time. When you pull the cold one, replace it with a warm one.

Sometime back, I had found myself actually opening my 4th soft drink everyday. I was getting really bad off. I can quit, but I like it. Some days I have none, some I have 2. Having a Fresca right now

I really can't stand diet soda, but I LOVE regular soda. However, I think it's more just my love of carbonation, because I'll find myself drinking diet if there's no regular soda around.

I found a good replacement is a green tea drink called "Sparkling green tea". It tastes just like soda, but I'm certain that's it a lot more healthy for you.

I like diet soda a lot too and at one point was drinking a six pack a day. Decided that was way too much and started limiting myself to one in the morning and one in the evening (I drink caffeine free btw) but in between it HAS TO be water. Especially now that the weather has gotten so hot here in Texas I find water to be much more refreshing but just need the bubbles I guess.

I like Jenlag's idea about only putting one in the fridge once you've taken the cold one out.

Last year, I gave up soda for Lent. After Lent was over, I just kept going without having any and it went all the way up to this year. This year for Lent, I gave up all drinks except for water. Now, I really only ever drink water and sometimes, Powerade zero.

Maybe give yourself a set 3 weeks and do a count down of some kind. If you can do it 21 times, you can do it forever becuase your brain recognizes it as a pattern.

I actually really do like water, I love how it makes me feel. As for soda its the bubbles for sure, and the caffeine helps lol. I am going to go cold turkey, starting today. If I find I feel too deprived I will try doing the one can at a time thing. Sounds like a bright idea to me

I am currently drinking my last Diet Coke! As of tomorrow, I am banning it. It's bad for your teeth and I think fizzy water with lemon is way better for you. And it's expensive, I spend about €28 a month on the stuff.

I'll use the money to buy myself some nice clothes.

I did! I'll definitely have a diet soda every once in awhile but my craving for them has almost gone away.

I've replaced soda with arrowhead's sparkling water (I love the raspberry lime) and iced unsweetened tea that I make myself (Tazo's tea is the best, including Awake - a blend of black teas - and passionfruit).

I'm pretty much off soda completely now, but I do make the odd exception.

But yeah, it was an addiction. I'd have one to fill me up so I wouldn't eat more...but I seriously think the diet soda was part of why I couldn't lose weight. It really screws up your hormones and my hormones are already screwed up. I just had to stop.

I used perrier or club soda with a splash of cranberry juice (all natural, really sour) and some natural sweeteners (I like xylitol but that new truvia stuff might work too). It satisfied my cravings and now they're gone completely.

Good luck!

I have actually started drinking more diet soda lately than usual and I have got to stop too. I used to just drink 2-12 oz. cans a day. One with lunch and one with dinner with coffee in the morning and then water in between. However, I have to really push myself to drink anything else or I won't drink anything at all in between meals.

I stopped drinking soda 9 months ago when I started my weight loss program. I was totally addicted to Diet Coke and for years that was almost all I would drink throughout the day.
It's was hard at the beggining but by now I barely miss it. Drink some sort of carbonated drink, mostly sparkling or mineral water once in a while.
My suggestion is to start weaning yourself slowly if you don't you can handle cutting it all together.....

Good luck,

Caribbean Girl

Ditto on what rockstar87 said. The Perrier with a splash of all natural cranberry juice and a nontoxic sweetener like xylitol or stevia. or unsweetened tea or coffee to get the caffeine fix.
