I've read them all and really enjoyed them. Of course, I have a crush on Scotland and always have, so that helps. I was obsessed with these books for some time.

I have a number of girlfriends who love these books.

I LOVE the series. Warning, there are 7 of them now along with a few off shoots that aren't strictly part of the series, but are the same characters and such. She is still working on it and has said she expects to find at least a book 8 and possibly a prequel of some sort. They are addictive to most people who read them, so if you don't think you want to get into a really long series of books then you probably shouldn't start. Otherwise, dive in and have fun.

I read the first five books (I think--it was awhile ago). I really enjoyed the first three, but Gabaldon introduced a major character who I detested so much that I stopped reading them. I read an interview with Gabaldon defending that character (she had received several criticisms about that character) and realized that the vast majority of the characters in the books didn't like him/her either. Which struck me as amusing. A writer's subconscious is a strange place to be.

I loved loved loved the first one. I liked each following book less and less. I didn't even read the most recent one.

The first one, though.../swoon.

I love the series as well, I didn't love the detested character but I did enjoy him the more i got to know him. there are other books she wrote just about him. I have them but haven't read them.

Another series I read and love that is in the same era was Into the Wilderness by Sara Donati and in fact there is an appearance of characters from Outlander. The writers knew each other from a reference forum back when they were starting out.

I do have the newest book sin both series but I haven't been in the mood for heavy reading lately, I'm more into fluff right now.

Enjoy your read.
