Really, anything you can make with ground beef you can with ground turkey. My favorites are Tacos, or taco salads -I use the low sodium seasoning, tastes wonderful, meatloaf, lettuce wraps, shepherds pie the list goes on and on! Looking for anything in particular?

Nothing in particular really...my brain just won't really function when it comes to being creative with foods.

Schwans has wonderful Turkey and Pork Meatballs, they are only 130 calories for 3 of them and they are huge! They also have a bunch of Live Smart choices that are very good.

Here's one....now I cannot give you a calorie count or nutritional info, but I am sure there are ways to cut the sodium if you wanted to.

I cook 1 cup of rice as directed on the package, adding 1/2 pkg. of taco seasoning (they may sell that in low sodium, I have not checked). Meanwhile I brown/crumble 1 pound ground turkey in a skillet w/ the other 1/2 of the taco seasoning. When browned, I add in one can of drained/rinsed beans (any kind will do) and then dump in the hot cooked rice. Mix together and enjoy. You can be creative and add drained canned corn (I love the salt-free as it makes the corn stay sweet), canned tomatoes (again, sodium may be an issue), chopped cilantro, etc. My sons love this supper made with turkey as much as they like the hamburger version.

You could probably even concoct your own taco seasoning using cumin, chili powder, garlic, onion powder or dried onion, etc.

Ooh, that meatloaf looks good, Krista! I'll have to give it a try. We just started eating ground turkey again. Used to eat it, but only because it was cheap, ut never really liked the texture. Now I buy the white meat only when they have BOGO and just make it into burgers, but we were lookingfor a meatloaf reciope. I also have a salisbury streak recipe fom food network that zi re-did to lower fat and cal and I want to try that with the ground turkey instead of ground beef.

If you google ground beef recipes, you'll be inundated with awesome recipes.

I interchange ground meats all the time. The only time it sometimes doesn't work is when the ground meat is a strongly seasoned ground sausage.

Kaplods, I meant to ask you what part of walmart carries the TVP? We have a super walmart here, but I've never seen it. Never looked, but I remember my g'ma...HER again!...used to get it in pre-packaged flavors for spaghetti and tacos and stuff about 35 years ago. I was thinking I could just use plain TVP and put it in those things.
Thanks!

Kind of like the taco idea, I LOVE ground turkey quesadillas!!

If you only use a little cheese, it's pretty healthy!!

I use ground turkey all the time.

Tomorrow I am making Mexican Lasagna (from cookbook: Eat Shrink and Be Merry)!

I am replacing the ground chicken with ground turkey.

No Weigh, José! Mexican Lasagna

Ingredients:
1-1/2 lbs extra-lean ground chicken
1 cup each diced red onions and diced green bell pepper
2 tsp minced garlic
1 cup canned black beans, drained and rinsed
1 cup diced tomatoes
1/2 cup frozen or canned corn
1-1/2 tsp chili powder
1 tsp ground cumin
2 cups your favorite tomato pasta sauce
1 cup medium salsa
1/4 tsp freshly ground black pepper
2 tbsp minced fresh cilantro (or dhania/coriander)
4 large or 8 small whole wheat flour tortillas
1-1/2 cups packed shredded light old (sharp) cheddar cheese (6 oz)
1/4 cup chopped green onions
1 cup light sour cream

1. Preheat oven to 375°F.
2. Spray a 9 x 13-inch casserole dish with cooking spray and set aside.
3. In a large, non-stick pot or skillet, cook ground chicken, onions, green pepper, and garlic over medium-high heat until meat is no longer pink. Break up any large pieces of chicken as it’s cooking.
3. Add black beans, tomatoes, corn, chili powder, and cumin. Cook and stir for 2 more minutes. Add pasta sauce, salsa, and black pepper. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low. Cover and simmer for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Stir in cilantro and remove from heat.
4. To assemble lasagna, spread 1/3 sauce mixture over bottom of casserole dish. Top with 1/2 the tortillas, overlapping and cutting them as necessary to fit. Top with 1/3 sauce mixture, followed by 1/2 the cheese. Cover cheese with remaining tortillas, followed by remaining sauce. Sprinkle remaining cheese over sauce and top with green onions.
5. Cover with foil and bake for 35 minutes. Uncover and bake 10 more minutes. Let lasagna stand for at least 10 minutes before slicing for easier serving. Top each piece with a dollop of sour cream.

Hint: If you prefer, you can substitute extra-lean ground beef for ground chicken and
Monterey Jack cheese for cheddar cheese.

I make "Mexican Chili" - that's what I call it, very similar to sotypical's Mexican Lasagna.

I brown ground turkey in a large pot (I like to cook in biggish quantities for plenty of leftovers):
- TexMex spice, or Chili Powder,
- a generous amount of pressed garlic
- a can of well rinsed beans (any kind you prefer, I usually go for red or black)
- sometimes chickpeas (canned, drained, rinsed)
- chopped up veggies: red or yellow bell pepper, zucchini
- coarsely grated carrot, celery root, parsley root (whatever I have in the fridge)
- a lot of salsa (pick you preference of spiciness)
- some ketchup (to cut down the acidity a bit)
- LOTS of finely chopped coriander (I LOVE, LOVE chilantro)

I eat it as is, with no side. Sometimes I have a bit of sweet potato as a side, but that's rare.

That meatloaf recipe looks awesome, and I have all the ingredients for it. I might make it this weekend. Thanks for sharing!

Sometimes I notice the taste of ground turkey in recipes (instead of beef), so I find a good solution is to mix half ground beef and half ground turkey.

I've always struggled with using ground turkey in place of ground beef, mainly because it sounds weird to me! We have always made meatloaf with 1/2 beef and 1/2 turkey, so it doesn't complete lose the beefy flavor and texture. But, recently I found I didn't notice a difference between turkey and beef when it's seasoned well, like in tacos! We also use it in a hamburger casterole my family makes (which may need a new name, haha).
