Default Cankle Question

I was just wondering, do cankles go away when you lose the weight? I have the thunder thighs, thick calves, and of course the cankles. So I was wondering, do i have something to look forward to as in wearing capris with cute shoes? or am i stuck with these hideous things?

Everyone is different, but mine went away. I love my ankles and calves now and especially get a kick out of my socks no longer leaving marks on my skin from being so tight!

Keep up the good work and you'll be in those cute capris and shoes before you know it.

I have the same issues. Big thighs, big calves and thick ankles. I have a very difficult time finding jeans to fit me because of my legs. I usually have to buy the wide leg styles (if I can find any!). It's very frustrating!

Here is an article on cankles that I read - it appears they might go away with weight loss, but if they are because you are "big boned" there will be no such luck!

I have lost 160+ lbs and still have them. They are LOTS better but I just don't think they'll ever go away completely. But honestly once you lose enough weight, it doesn't really matter. I can wear short skirts as long as I wear boots with them...and that's OK.

I am wondering the same thing. I have found that my legs swell more, and I get the cankle effect. I am soooo hoping that as I lose weight and increase my exercise, then the swelling will be less often.

No cankles for me... but I DID have a big problem with lower leg swelling at my heaviest-- if I drove, worked, or sat without my feet elevated for long periods of time, my lower legs swelled.

Now, that never happens. YAY!

I think it's hereditary, along with under eye circles and body-shape! Take a look at your mom - does she have thick ankles?? I like to think our bodies return to the shape they were meant to be My cankles went away but I still have a big old hideous scar on my left ankle so I still hate them LOL

I think it's different for every one. My enormous behind, boobs and hips went away - which I always thought was familial, but apparently when I got slim enough - it wasn't.

But my calves and cankles - no. .

But they are better (lots)! And I feel so fabulous overall that I hardly ever think about them. I still get to wear fabulous (tiny) clothing.

And thankfully having cankles doesn't cause diabetes, cancer or heart disease!

I am starting to see some definition in my ankle area, so I'm hoping by the time I get the rest of this excess weight off, I will have proper ankles and not cankles.

That is something that has never been a problem for me - I carry my weight around my tummy - I still have that but I have never had bigger legs.

I'm fairly certain it's how people are built. I have always have 'thin ankles and wrists' but of course they got fattier at my highest.

Ok. New body obsession. After reading the article in which the podiatrist states that the average person's ankles measure 11 to 12 inches around..." I have now measured my ankles which are only 9" around. So... on the one hand, I don't seem to have cankles, but on the other hand, maybe I don't have big bones after all. LOL.

lol ubergirl, mine are 10

Thank you everyone for replying! I'm bottom heavy (like my mom). My wrist and fingers are tiny! and so is my waist (my waist measures at 40" whereas my hips measure at 54"), and it just bugs me so much! but hopefully they will go down, so at least i have SOMETHING to look forward to! lol

I have heard the word a lot, but I don't really know what a cankle is... Is it just the ankles of a heavier person or do they actually look different?

I don't know if I have them or not...
