Default Idle Hands...

My husband and I sit at night and watch tv for awhile before we go to bed. It's our quiet time when the kids are both in bed, but I have discovered that I have a tendency to snack, almost whether I am hungry or not. And even if they are low calorie snacks, they add up when you are eating for no apparent reason. So I decided that I would try knitting. My grandmother taught me when I was younger, so I decided to try to make a scarf. The scarf looks like a 5 year old is making it, but the snacking has stopped. I guess I just needed to keep my hands busy.

Yes, keep those hands busy! Or in my case, I watch tv upstairs in my room--AWAY from the kitchen!

yep. great ideas to change bad habits with something healthier. And knitting is supposed to be a great stress reliever, which is never a bad thing!

Keeping busy is a big part of stopping mindless eating.
I totally hear you on the new crafts thing as well. This weekend I finally got my Inkle loom warped and began weaving for the first time ever....

Man my work is slow and messy and the tension is off all over the place. But I am doing it with my own hands and my hands aren't getting me in to trouble.

We're moving in a couple weeks so my knitting stuff is in storage, but I think once we unpack I am going to start knitting again in the evenings. It is good to have your hands busy, and do something productive! I love pretty much any kind of art and craft, but knitting is especially easy to do in front of the boob tube.

It kind of sucks because I live in Florida so I don't have much use for knitted things all but a few months out of the year. It's been warm one week, cold another for the past few months, and by the end of March it should start staying warm... I hope it stays cooler a little longer so I can make some more scarves and get some use out of them before "winter" is over!!

Congrats on the knitting, and there is alot of charities that you could donate the scarves to, then you'd be doing a good thing for yourself (stopping the munching) and you never have to worry about the "what am I going to do with another scarf" after you have made the first dozen. LOL You can just knit yourself skinny!
