I am a late night eater, so part of my plan is to stop eating entirely at 7 p.m. Thus, when I wake up, I'm REALLY hungry. So, I eat something light when I wake up at 5:30 (think an apple or yogurt) so I don't feel like I'm starving when I exercise, take my daughter to her early morning class, then work out at 6:00 or so. But what I've heard time and time again is that your body needs some protein right after working out so that it will retain the muscle, so I eat my largest meal after I work out. (I actually drink some protein water immediately after, then after about a half an hour, I'll eat something more substantial, as I am always a little queasy right after a work-out.)
