Default 1200 too low?

Ive been eating between 1200-1300 calories a day. I did a few calculators and to lose they said I need to eat between 1800-2000(whoa!) a day. Does this seem high to anyone? I'm losing eating 1200 but I was thinking maybe I should bump it up to around 1600? Will this affect my weight loss but increasing now? Or not really because 1600 is still on the lower end? I want to be able to reduce calories when I hit a plateau and I have a long way to go lol

how hungry are you on 1200/day?? i do rigorous cardio 5-6 days a week and weight train at least 3 of them and find that i am unbelievably lethargic and ravenous if i do 1200 a day...no matter what nutrients it consists of. if you however are sedentary and maybe do a half hour of moderate cardio 3-4 times a week and are a little hungry but can manage it then dont change it. ultimately the less you eat the more you lose...unless your body is giving you signs you need more fuel. if you need more, trying upping your calories 100 each day and see if you notice a difference. perhaps maybe have a bigger breakfast and keep your smaller meals later in the day so you have a good energy start.

Im actually not really hungry at all and I actually feel less tired then before(I guess because its better foods Im eating). I guess because I sit at a desk all day and only do 20 mins on the elliptical 3 days a week. I figured I would slowly increase my exercise to break through any plateaus I hit.

Ive been counting calories and I eat between 1200-1500 on average most days I eat 1300 or so but Im never hungry. THe past two weeks Ive been sticking to counting and working out consistantly so I can tell just yet but Ive lost 4lbs this week. I walk one hour 4-5 times per week. Its all about your body and you need to listen to it.

WHen I was eating like 1800 or so I wasnt really losing.

What has worked for me in the past and what I am (or will be) doing this time around is calorie cycling. So, for about 6 weeks I will eat about 1200 - 1300 calories and then for about 2 weeks jump up to about 1500 - 1600 calories - this helps my body not get used to the caloric intake and helps with plateaus - then after that I cycle back down to 1200 - 1300 calories.
