Talking Any advice for a newbie on how to get the most out of the forum?

I'm a newbie here...just starting out in my efforts to lose weight and better myself.

I've tried a million different ways to lose weight but I've never belonged to a forum like this before. It's all a little bit overwhelming. Does anyone have any advice for someone like me? What can I do to make the most of it? Any tips on not getting overwhelmed?

Thanks!

:-)

I'm pretty new myself!

I would say...start out on the forums you most indentify with (whether it's the certain age group or you're following weight watchers or whatever), but then definitely branch out. I've read posts from all the forums...there is really good information all over this site! (I even peek in on the nursing and pregnancy board and my only child started kindergarten this year! Lol)

And jump in. I was kind of nervous at first to post (especially if I had an opposing view or a "silly question), but everyone is really really nice and so SMART!

Since I've joined, I've gone over the old old posts too.

Just check it all out and really use this wonderful resource. It has made a huge difference for me this time around.

Good luck!

Figure out the people whose words really speak to you and then LISTEN!!!

I would not be where I am now if it were not for the incredibly generous losers and maintainers who jump in with their words of wisdom.

I post a lot because when I joined 3FC I had twenty years of weight loss failure behind me and I needed hand holding every step of the way....

And I still do, LOL. Every single bump for me is a mountain, but it really does help to get support.

Welcome!

Read lots, post lots and get invloved. Find a home forum (like the 100 club), settle in and get acquainted. There is a wealth of knowledge and support here for the asking. It has made a huge difference to me.

Post lots! It gives you great feedback and you get to "know" people. It won't take long before you start seeing people as "familiar faces" based on their avatars and signatures. I find that reading through people's signatures around here is very inspiring. I love to see what the goals are, what the mini goals are and what has been met. It's just so encouraging to be in like company.

Welcome aboard!

Welcome I'd say look around at the individual forums and see what interests you. The 100 lb club is a great generic club/forum for those that need to lose 100 lbs or more but there are a lot of other really good forums as well.

Don't be afraid to jump in and post and if you have questions, feel free to ask!

Yea, ok, I admit I'm biased! But even I hang out on other boards too!

What an excellent question! I've been a member for a couple of years now but have never been very active. I'm definitely going to take in the advice already given for myself.

For me I started out small. Small steps and little changes. Stay focused and if you fall - just get RIGHT back on!
