Default Introduction and Thanks!

Hello everyone!
I think I belong here - my scales showed 298 this morning so I can safely say that I'd be better off if I lost 100+ lbs!
I've always been pretty big - over the last couple of years I lost a serious amount of weight (twice!) using a Very Low Calorie Diet (shakes and bars, etc) but put it back on. Now I'm ready to lose the weight in a more sustainable - for me - way.
I was brought up on junk food and never learned to cook, but when I got married a few years back I started to learn and I've really turned the corner, I think - pretty much everything is cooked from scratch nowadays, unless I'm feeling lazy. The only thing is, overeating cake is still a bad thing whether it's home made or shop bought! My favourite hobby is cake decorating but my second favourite is cake eating, and I'm beginning to think that I need to give up the cakes and biscuits completely, because I just can't control myself very well around them.

Anyway, that was just a bit of background info. I've read posts here avidly for a couple of weeks now and I wanted to say thank you - it means so much to know that so many of you have won this battle, it lets me hope that I can do it too! Thank you!

Cheers
QoS

Hey there!

Gosh, our stats are close!

I found I did have to restrict some of the sugary goodies for the first few months or so...I, like you, was bad at self control around them. I came up with things that would let me have a small treat (150 calorie skinny cow or other low fat or sugar free ice cream bars and cones, for example) without pushing me into that craving cycle that led to a loss of control, and just did without the baked stuff for a while. The good news is, when I did go back to trying it, a LOT of it was just plain too sweet, and I became much more easily satisfied on 2-3 bites of cake or a cupcake, instead of 2-3 slices of cake.

If you're going to be baking, but don't want to eat it, you might consider finding some folks without weight issues onto which the baked goods can be pawned, and then chewing gum to prevent yourself from tasting batters and such. You can also usually find a bake sale or etc. to donate the goods to, if you just need to bake and have no one to bake for.
