Default Vegetarian South Beach

I am a vegetarian and starting Phase 1, anyone else?
I plan on eating lots of veggies, beans, and some soy products.

Question, is quinoa considered a protein or a carb?

Looking forward to doing the V-SBD with others and share ideas and recipes.

to The Beach, Karen, from a fellow vegetarian Beacher! There are several of us here who are vegetarians, and we have no problem whatsoever following the SBD guidelines. We're pleased to have you joining us, and look forward to getting to know you.

To answer your question, quinoa is a grain and should not be included in your diet until Phase 2. It does contain carbs, and is full of protein. Keep in mind that this is a "good carb" diet, but starchy carbs are to be avoided in Phase 1.

My grocery bill has been drastically reduced doing the V-SBD
no meat, grains, or fruit, no snacks, only fresh veggies, dairy and some soy products. I'm well stocked now since we are expecting more snow tonight or tomorrow.
I do have plenty of sugar free hot chocolate just in case.

Hi Karen! South Beach is easily adapted to be a vegetarian way of eating. There are a bunch of us veg-heads on the forum!

I keep considering not being vegetarian, but trying to decrease meat to only a couple meals a week. I haven't shared this with the DH yet! . I'll have to keep an eye out for recipe recommendations!
