After my trip to the grocery store today I got to thinking about how automatic my shopping has become. I don't browse the aisles like the proverbial kid in a candy store anymore. Too much temptation! But there are certain things I eat all the time and make sure to always have on hand. Here are mine:
- FiberOne cereal
- Tortilla Factory SmartWraps (100 calories, great for sandwiches!)
- Laughing Cow Light cheese wedges (I use on sandwiches instead of mayo)
- Trader Joe's low sodium Tomato and Red Pepper soup (100 calories a cup and only 140g of sodium - so rare to find in a tasty soup)
- 1% Cottage Cheese
- Frozen edamame
- 100 calorie microwave popcorn packs
- String cheese
- Hard boiled eggs
- Natural peanut butter
Everything else I buy rotates, but these things I always keep around. What are yours? Maybe you can give me some new ideas!
Almond butter/almonds
all sorts of dried beans (black eyed peas are one of my current favorites)
all sorts of whole grains
fresh greens
extra firm tofu
canned beans
canned tomatoes
frozen green beans
salsa/hot sauce
frozen berries (blueberries, strawberries)
frozen bananas
sprouted whole grain bread
- Laughing Cow Light Cheese Wedges
- 1% milk
- 2% shredded cheese
- low/no-fat yogurt (various brands - depending on what's on sale)
- sugar-free pudding cups
- double-chocolate vitatops
- no sugar/all natural applesauce
- Indian simmer sauces from Trader Joe's
- basil pesto (a little goes a long way for flavor since it is high in fat)
- brown basmati rice
- salsa (different varieties, e.g. tomato, pineapple, corn)
- fat-free refried beans
- enchilada sauce
- chopped green chilies
- great northern beans
- Jiffy Pop snack size Healthy Pop
- Fiber One bars
- Weight Control oatmeal
That's about all I can think of off the top of my head, although I'm sure I've forgotten some.

I love your list Robin-- tons of variety. I see a lot of things that I keep on hand too, like garlic, lemon, and cooking spray.
But since I eat either salmon or tilapia several x a week, I think I'm going to start keeping that in my freezer too. I'm always rushing off to the store to buy it.
Also-- you reminded me: HEARTS OF PALM. How can something so crunchy and delicious be so healthy and low in calories. Yay!
