Question for anyone. I am around 250 now but have been working out with different beachbody workouts for about 5 months now. I have done hip hop abs, turbo jam, and rockin body. How difficult is P90X? I do want to do the lean version for now. I wonder if I am going to have any issues with the workouts.
Congrats on your continued success! That is awesome, I have completed a round of P90X and yes it's tough. The workouts are no joke BUT they do show you how to do all of the exercises modified which is great.
If you have not done much weight training previously I would recommmend starting with P90 first then move onto the "X".
I'm glad you posted both the question and answer. I bought P90X last year and although I had intentions of doing it I am a bit intimidated by it. I tried many different things this year but also had two minor injuries. I was getting frustrated with where to start. I ordered the Power 90 workout last week. I am planning on starting with that then moving up to the P90X workout. Where I haven't been working out much at all over the past few months I have a long way to go but I am feeling more motivated than ever to get back at it!
I did P90x when I was around 225 lbs. Have you tried doing the 'Fit Test" included in the manual? That should give you a good idea of where you stand.
You could also try a few of the workouts before starting a full rotation. I really enjoyed 'Shoulders and Arms' and the Kenpo workouts.
I did the rotation following "Lean' althought I didn't like it and would stick with the Classic' if I do it again. I followed the 12-15 reps per exercise method, which you might find easier than lifting the heavier weights. I did surprise myself with how much I couldn't lift when I tried. I had to go buy new heavier weights several times. I started with 3,5, 8, 10, and maybe 15's. Some people I know did a 'halfsies' rotation. Since many of the workouts repeat the same exercises twice {check the weight sheets in the back of the book} they did each set once skipping the other set. I think the workout times dropped from 45-55 mins to 25-30 min.
A little Tony goes a long way, you could also substitute other workouts that are similar. Walks/jogs for cardio days or other DVD's you might have...
P90x is tough - probably the toughest at home video program. You will probably run into issues with the pullups and chinups (although most women can't do those even if they weighed 75lbs!).
There are modifications in each one (for example, a strong man will do the pullups whereas another man will demonstrate it using rubber bands).
The great thing is that you can go through it with modifications and then as you get stronger, you can go through it again with more weights or even doing the real chinups or pullups.
I would recommend starting with P90 if you are not experienced with weight training (sorry, I don't know what those videos are that you have done)
I agree with the above suggestions. P90X is tough and it will put you through a wringer (but I would have said the same even if you said you weigh 185 or less). It would a great idea to start with P90 first and personally, I would also recommend classic as opposed to lean.
Good luck!!
Im thinking of trying it, but scared to death! How many days does the schedule say to do it? and how long is each workout?
You are supposed to go it for 90 days. Each workout is approximately 1 hour although Tony dictates to do abs after some of the 1hr sessions. The abs workout is about 16 minutes if I remember correctly and it is tough.
For the poster who asked about the order .... no, you do not do the workouts 1-12 - the package comes with a schedule that dictates in which order you should do the workouts.
