NOW you've done it! Now I'm having serious Chinese food cravings. Those things never pass, it just gets worse. To top it off there are TWO new chinese restaurants near me. Good thing I don't have a yen for Orange Chicken, right?? |
Valerie, you are such a HOOT!!!
I didn't say you had to LIKE the choices or go out and EAT them!!! :nono: :drill: Stick to your guns and follow your program and don't let silly quizes deter you! :drill: |

I know from food lists that shrimp cocktail, for instance, can be made any number of ways that will result in a wide range of calories and nutritional content (and the corn syrup/sugary sauce often has a deceptively high amount of calories). For others without so many numbers floating around in their heads this is probably really simple and fun though! :^: |
Yogini: I'm sorry you didn't find it "fun". The quiz was certainly meant to be fun and eye opening, not a chore.
|
It's not a "chore" at all...what gives you that idea?
It *is* actually "fun" to me because, if nohing else, it makes me laugh at myself for always making what may seem simple to others so complicated because I always have to weigh so many variables ;) |
My answers:
1. To start your morning off right, which breakfast has the least amount of calories? Pretty sure of this one. a. Two scrambled eggs with cheese b. A glazed donut c. One cup of granola cereal 2. Which of these delicious appetizers boasts the lowest amount of calories per serving? Pretty sure of this one...shrimp and cocktail sauce is practically free. a. Shrimp cocktail b. Chicken lettuce wraps c. 12 chips and salsa 3. Those four fun-size Snickers you just grabbed from the receptionist's candy jar cost you how many calories? This one was tough, I would have thought each one had 50 calories, for an answer of 200. a. 120 calories b. 324 calories c. 500 calories 4. You ordered the chicken. Now which side dish should you choose if you want to continue with your low-calorie dinner theme? Cream-based soups are out, garlic bread has loads of butter..I guess it depends on how the rice pilaf is prepared, but it seems the lowest calorie option a. One bowl of cream of broccoli soup b. Half a cup of rice pilaf c. Two slices of garlic bread 5. Which movie-theatre treat should you nosh on to avoid calorie-overload? Popcorn is definitely out, a pretzel has like 600 calories (to my shock and horror) so going with twizzlers a. A medium-sized buttered popcorn b. One salted pretzel c. A 5 oz. pack of red vines 6. Which alcoholic beverage packs the highest amount of calories at happy hour? Very sure of this one...white russians are definitely good though a. White Russian b. Budweiser c. Glass of red wine 7. To avoid turning your snack into a mini-dinner calorie-wise, which should you choose? Cottage cheese is the "right" answer, but celery and peanut butter is a good snack too! Natural peanut butter is an excellent source of healthy fat, sometimes low cal is not the best answer. a. Half a cup of cottage cheese b. Two stalks of celery with peanut butter c. A handful of tortilla chips 8. Which Chinese food favorite will set you back the most calories? Guessing here, if I remember correctly, orange chicken is breaded and fried. If General Tsao had been an option, I would have picked that. a. Orange chicken b. Broccoli beef c. Vegetable chow mein 9. While in a fast food drive thru, which item should you choose if you want to spare yourself some major calories? Have no idea here, but I know Taco Bell salads are notoriously calorie heavy for a "salad." Quarter pounder might be right, just not sure. a. McDonald's Quarter Pounder with cheese b. Taco Bell's taco salad c. Carl's Jr. 6-piece chicken stars 10. To finish off your meal, which tasty dessert has the least amount of calories? Kind of guessing here, I know the answer isn't pie, since crust is so calorie heavy. I'm guessing chocolate pudding, since I don't know how big the rice krispy treats are. a. A slice of apple pie b. One serving of chocolate pudding c. Two Rice Krispies treats |

Very interesting, Thinthinker. Thanks for doing it. I don't always go for the lowest calorie item, because I am trying to avoid sugar, white flour, and processed foods. But I do count calories and I understood that the point of the quiz was to see how correctly I would guess if presented with these choices somewhere, where I didn't have any information about the preparation. That was fun!

Thanks for the comment, Tammy.
I did one a few months back with Tim Horton's muffin choices. I realized that everyone doesn't have a Timmy Ho's nearby, but I asked people to select what they thought would be the "healthiest" based on their individual programs and just the name of the muffin. The way I looked at it was, when you're out and faced with just the names of things on a menu, which would you choose and how close would you come to being spot on. The names of things can certainly be desieving. Then I posted all of the nutritional information a few days later after people were able to pick, just like I did this one. That particular exercise worked well because you could choose based on YOUR personal program so if you were avoiding sugar, you might make one guess vs. someone else that was choosing based on some other criteria. Glad you enjoyed the quiz. |
Ha! 10 for 10! Lilion Rules! :encore:
What? No prizes? :p  Seriously, thanks Thin! It's fun to make your choices when there's no pounds at stake! :D |
Lilion:
NOPE, sorry, no prizes! But how about a WAY TO GO! :carrot: Woo Hoo for you! GOOD JOB! :bravo: Hurray! :cp: And last, but certainly not least: Here's to you, Judge Lady! :judge: Truth be told, I just kept the spread sheet, I didn't grade the papers so I had no idea that you got them ALL right. That's pretty cool. :D |
