300+ And Ready To Try Again #972

WELCOME !!!

We are a group of individuals who weigh or have weighed 300+, or near there. This group was formed to provide a place for others like us to find support and hope. We are aware of the distinct problems that come with weighing over 300 lbs.

We want to invite everyone to join us in our journey.
We share laughter and tears.
We share what works for us and what doesn't.
We often use a "Topic of the Day" for discussion.

Motivational Monday
Tuesday Tips
Wednesday Wish List .. and What you are doing to obtain it.
Thankful Thursday
FUN Friday ... don't wait until you lose your weight.
Sit-up Saturdays - any physical activity
Share your Success Sunday

These are not required topics ...just ideas to share. We often find them very helpful. We also share heartaches and fears ... joys and celebrations.

We have several extra threads going on simutaneously such as Monthly Challenges, Weekly Weigh-ins, Recipes, Bios, and more. Please feel free to check them all out.

We have found this thread to be more than just a support group...
we have found it to become a home. We invite you to join us.

WELCOME!

I know you'll all agree that we are really thankful for the free services here at 3FC. The sisters offer all of this support and information with no charges to us. There are a couple of ways though that we can help out.

If you are thinking about buying anything at Amazon, why not help out 3FC at the same time? You can do this by clicking on the button for Amazon on any page in the forum, or by clicking on the button on the main 3FC page at www.3fatchicks.com . A portion of your purchase price will be given to 3FC by Amazon. It doesn't increase your price at all, but it does help out 3FC. You can use any of the Amazon.com links that you see on the site in order to help contribute to the site.

Also, BTW, in case you didn't know it, you can view the message boards "ad free" for a minimal charge. I think it's like $15 for 6 months. A very small investment to be rid of the annoying ads and make your pages load quicker.

Hi Ladies - Got in some exercise this evening...13 minute walk, 20 minutes strength training, and 5 minutes of yoga/stretching. :) (I walked 37 minutes earlier today.) Tomorrow I plan to walk home from after doing my errands...but since it's quite a bit further than my usual mall walk of 2 miles I will bus home and just get off a few stops from home and walk 15 minutes or so to get home...there's a plan. Now to see HOW MANY stops away I choose to get off at. :) We will see! ;)
Hope everyone has a good day!
Stay OP chickies!!

Well I did a really long post yesterday BUT HIT THE WRONG BUTTON and lost it!!!! grrrrr
Ammi sent me a message SHE LOST 2lbs, WOOHOOO!!! FOR AMMI!!!!!
Gareth had a party yesterday, I was almost crying because he wouldn't play games, eat or interact with anyone. (He's Autistic) Normall he joins in eventually when he relaxes, I heard one of the mums remark on my miserable face which made it worse. The birthday girl's mum was lovely though. Steve was on an early shift so he came halfway through and Gareth sttled a bit, even if he didn't watch the magician. What is it with kids parties these days???? no one has them at home anymore, they hire halls or venues, with magicians, discos and other entertainers, they must spend so much money!!! This one did have homemade food though AND FRESH FRUIT!!! which made a lovely change from the fried fast food normally served.
I really don't have much time BUT, Annie you are doibg so well, I know and have faith in you that you will lose weight and get healthy, it's great that hubby will go along to W/W with you.xxxx
Kayley glad you are busy, I'm sure the weight will start to drop off soon, you are so busy!!! I sent you some messages on msn but didn't realise you worked in the week too, sorry.xxx
I have to tidy the house up.
xxsharon

jillybean720 08-08-2006 07:25 AM

Wow, all this talk about how active everyone is and all the exercise everyone is doing...almost enough to inspire me to get up off my butt ;) I was walking up the stairs to my apartment for a while (4 flights), but then when the really insane heat hit, the stairwells, garage, and basement of my building have no a/c, so it was actually even hotter in the stairways than outside since there was hardly even any air circulation, and with heat indexes of 110+, I wasn't about to climb those stairs unless someone held a gun to my head :p

I must be doing something right, though because the scale is slowly but surely making its way back down. I had gotten back up to about 296, but this morning, it said 293, and that's after 4 hotdogs for dinner last night (they were fat free/low cal, but still chock full o' sodium!). I spent some time last night preparing food for today--no excuses! I took out chicken to thaw overnight, and then this morning, I forked it and put it in a big ziploc bag with some Italian marinade to soak all day, so dinner's already half done--just need to toss it in a pan in the oven for a bit and maybe cook up some corn to have with it. I also made my salad for today's lunch last night--I cooked up a whole pound of lean ground turkey with some salsa, chili powder, onion, garlic, and just a sprinkle of crushed red pepper, so I have a small container of that to add to my large container of romaine, cabbage, and shredded cheese, plus a container of salsa and ff sour cream to use instead of dressing. Breakfast this morning was a small piece of ham and a few pineapple chunks, and I'll have egg salad (w/ff mayo and a bit of light Miracle Whip) as a snack when I get home. It feels so good to have a plan in place and to ACTUALLY follow it :dizzy:

I've also been doing something else important for me--drinking at least 2 liters of water each day, not including additional servings of sugar-free kool aid and diet soda--maybe that's helping to ward off some of the sodium-induced water retention.

Alrighty, time to work, since I've bene in the office for almost half an hour now and have successfully filled my water bottle, put my lunch in the fridge, and typed this message :p

Nightkatt 08-08-2006 07:59 AM

Wow Jill .. sounds like you are really on a good track .. the food sounds delicious and its always a great thing to get it ready the day before .. well ... the night .. Before I go to bed I get breakfast on the table (well .. the cereal anyway lol) and I get my milo ready and make sure the jug is full so that all I have to do when I come out in the morning is switch on the jug, pour my cereal and (as its winter over here and pretty chilly in the morning still) I pop it in the micro to heat up the milk then by the time it beeps the jug has boiled and my piece of toast has popped up, I have my toast first cos I hate cold toast lol ... but its a good start esp considering Im soooo not a morning person and Im not used to eating before midday lol .. I have the rest of my foods lined up for the day after I finish breakfast so that I know what Im having and then I refill my water bottle to finish off by midday, have my lunch, refill the bottle to finish by dinner, then I just have another couple of cups to have for my 2 litres of water .. definitely a lot easier than trying to remember how many cups I have had lol .. and so far its worked (started doing it this way on Sunday - its now Tues night in NZ).

I have been considering become an Avon rep .. but I think I will wait til Im a little more confident about my appearance before I do that .. but thats another goal for me to aim for :)

Everyone is doing so wonderfully .. I definitely need to think more about exercise .. but a little a day is better than nothing :)

Have a great day all .. its about to turn midnight so I should be getting to bed lol .. night!

rkrs6673 08-08-2006 08:03 AM

Jill- your lunch and dinner sound great! Also congrats on losing more weight again!

Ammi- congrats on the extra 2 pounds lost. You are doing so great!

Sharon- I am sure your son enjoyed himself some at the birthday party. I know what you mean about people not having parties in their homes anymore:)

Melissa- There you go again! I love reading about your exercise :) I am sure you are going to do super great at your weighin!

toofatforu 08-08-2006 08:10 AM

ah! gotcha! Now I see what you're saying! I think people can overdo it (be careful, Melissa! :)) but I also think people set lofty goals and get discouraged when they don't meet them right away and give up! I have never been an exerciser and this is definitely the harder part to keep in place for me! And selfishly, I want people to stick around so our exercise numbers keep going up and up and up!!! :D

And I have a secret, but you can't tell anybody. Despite my moans every time I lace on my sneakers, I am also enjoying the exercise, or rather, really enjoying the results of the exercise! Sometimes I even like lifting at the gym! And I often like walking, esp outside! How is that possible when I still have to force myself to do this a lot of the time?? :)

Ammi -- Another 2 lbs? You are disappearing! :)

nelie 08-08-2006 09:50 AM

Jill, I live on the 4th floor of an apartment building. There is no elevator. Suprisingly, it was my choice to live there. Moving up there was a pain and moving again will be a pain but oh well. I can definitely feel the difference the 20 lbs that I've lost since I moved in though. My legs would tire out on the 3rd floor when I was bringing up groceries or something heavy. They no longer do. Of course exercise helps as well.

Melissa, you are doing awesome with exercise, keep it up.

Misti, I know you said you are losing inches but the weight isn't falling off? Very strange. I have had really long plateaus before, months and months. Usually I have to shake it up a bit to lose again.

My exercise is suffering due to my insomnia. I sleep in late, get home late, can't do exercise before my DF arrives and I'm too tired to do anything strenuous anyway. Since high level activity late at night can aggravate insomnia, I'm trying to do more calming exercises at night. So I did yoga last night, which still made me sweat and challenged my muscles. I feel super tired when I go to bed but can't sleep, sometimes I'll be able to fall asleep and then wake up a couple hours later, then the rest of the night is intermittent. For the next few days, I'm giving up caffeine to see if that helps. I have been only drinking caffeine earlier in the day but maybe I need to give it up entirely for a while.

jillybean720 08-08-2006 10:56 AM

Nightkatt--I agree that it can be a pain to keep track of how many cups of water you have if you're actually just drinking a cup at a time. I have 2 1-liter bottles at my office, so I fill them both and put them in the fridge when I leave in the afternoon and make I sure I drink them both the next day, so I get my 2 liters in while I'm at work. I also have some diet soda and sugar-free Kool Aid, but I don't count that ;)

nelie--I live in a 16-story building, so we definitely have an elevator :p However, my first 3 years in colege, I lived on the third floor with no elevators, and yet all the way through the very last day, I still got winded going up those stairs, so who knows if it even does any good

Ammi--congrats on the -2 pounds!

As for me, still workin' hard...I love that even when I have down time at this job, I get to do things I enjoy. I'm currently working on making some layout templates, so I get to be a little creative, which is always a bonus :) I'm starting to get hungry, but I want to hold out till 11:30 before I grab my lunch (it's 10:57 right now!).

kayleystar 08-08-2006 11:35 AM

Woohoo to Ammi for another 2 pounds lost!!!

Good morning, ladies. Just a quick post before I get some work done for my online class. I have 21 days to finish a class and a half...eeps! Then, it's off to work, yet again. Hopefully, I'll be starting the new position sometime next week, as the girl that's currently doing it, is heading back up to college on Saturday, so Friday is her last day. Got in a 30 minute walk this morning with my Mom...went up to vote, and came back. Going to try and get a walk in with Andrew this evening, and we're going to do some Yoga together. I love the Yoga dvd I got. :)

Hope you all have a great & OP day! :)

newsnerd 08-08-2006 12:08 PM

Hello chickies!
It's a hot day here in NC already!! Not sure if I'll get my walk in, but I'm going to try.
I'm getting a little nervous about my doctor's appt. on Thursday, as it will be the first time I've weighed in a month. I don't know what to expect. I think I've lost, because some of my clothes fit differently (I have a pair of jeans that I can take off an put on w/o unzipping/buttoning them!) but looking in the mirror, I don't see a difference. I'm gonna have to post a pic here and follow up in a month and let y'all be the judge!

Ammi- 2 poumds! WTG!!:cb:
Good luck to all today!

When I had lost over 40 pounds from my highest weight, I still didn't see a difference in the mirror. This happens to a lot of people, and I think there are 2 main reasons:
  1. you see yourself everyday, so you don't notice the gradual changes over time. I bet if you visited with someone who hasn't seen you since you started losing weight, they would notice right away.
  2. you're used to seeing yourself at your high weight. A lot of women actually reach their goals and still think they are the same fat person they were when they started. It takes time for your brain, eye, and body to all coordinate ;)

Heather 08-08-2006 12:29 PM

newsnerd -- I agree with Jill that it can take time to see a difference... some days I swear I still don't see a difference, even though I'm well aware that there IS one. self-perceptions are odd!

Jill-- I now walk up the stairs to a 5th floor office and am winded. A colleague of mine who also does says she always gets winded, but has noticed her recovery time getting shorter and shorter! Maybe that's a measure to look at...

Vilandra485 08-08-2006 02:16 PM

Finally...!!

Hi Ladies....Had my weigh-in....I stepped on it 5 times to confirm the same number....then once more a bit later, lol....so, here it is:
I LOST 6 POUNDS!!!!!!!
I made up for my 2 weeks of losing nothing, and met both of my mini-goals, as well!! I'm soooooooo incredibly happy right now...not only have my exercise and eating been great, but now I have "proof" of it!
:carrot: :cb: :carrot:
Yay, lol!! Sorry for going on and on, but I'm just so darn happy!! I told DH that I don't ever remember seeing 329 on the scale except for "when I passed it on the way up"!! LOL! DH and I did a little...well big...happy dance when it was confirmed - ROFL! Wow...I can't believe I've lost 27.5 pounds in 12 weeks! :)
Hope everyone is having a good one!
Stay OP chickies!!

Jillybean: :cp: Good job getting all your food ready. I think you are back on track!

Wyllen: I am so glad that you posted that occasionally you have a hard time getting started to exercise. I love to go to Curves once I'm doing it but getting there is like pulling teeth for me. Thanks for sharing that. I feel better;)

newsnerd: Good luck on the :goodscale at the Dr. Hopefully it will be wonderful news.

Everyone else, be op and blessed!

As for me. I finally went back to Curves today!!!:carrot: I feel so proud of myself. Now I will jump on the bike later and do some of that too. I am going back to Curves tomorrow with a friend so that will be nice to be able to have someone to exercise with! :ebike: Take care all

Vilandra485 08-08-2006 03:47 PM

dogpal - Thanks so much! :)

going to lose 200 08-08-2006 04:04 PM

Hi guys
Well, my weight is slooowly going back in the right direction. That is really good news for me *L*

Ammi~ way to go on -2!
Melissa ~ Congrats on the -6!!

Zelma, Heather, Nelie, katt and everyone else on the subject of kids ~ I like sending them home too :) And I am SO happy that someone else I "know" is choosing that way of life. Around here it is "weird" not too and no one else I have met here is choosing that lifestyle. I know I am selfish and I am happier I think because of it *L* Wait till hubby gets home today and I tell him that he has an appt on Friday am to see the doc about it :)

I think I am having my midlife crisis early *L* Yesterday I decided that I was going to get a third job. I work fulltime days and then I sell my jewellry on Sundays so I was sitting and thinking that I would like to have another evening job and saturdays once and a while. I am going to contact Penningtons (fullfigure clothing store). They give you a 50%off discount since you have to wear their clothes.

We have also made the whole vasectomy decision and I think that I am hiring a maid to clean my housea few hours per week. Thats whats going on in MY head this week.

ok... speaking of my house. Until I hire my housecleaner it isnt going to clean itself. Talk to you all soon!

Brenda

jillybean720 08-08-2006 04:31 PM

Man, Melissa, way to rock that scale!!

Brenda--a maid? How fabulous that sounds!

I am back and forth on the topic of having kids, but I think I want them. I grew up with a huge extended family that all lived very close by (CT isn't a very big state, which is where I grew up, and most of my family still lived in the same town as me, let alone the same state). Now when I go to visit CT for holidays or whatever and I go to the big family gatherings, I miss being able to see those people all the time. I also HATE that my younger cousin has a baby, and he's about 2 now, and he will NEVER be familiar with me because I'm so seldom in CT. It makes me long for my own family so we can develop those close relationships I grew up with and miss so much. I guess it's one of those things you appreciate more when you've had it and then had it taken away.

Annie -- my goodness, I guess I haven't posted often enough about how I simply DREAD the exercising -- frequently! I put it off, and put it off... I started setting minutes because it was the only thing I could think to do to keep me on track!!

In fact, I am procrastinating getting on the treadmill right NOW, by telling myself I have to stay upstairs and wait for a phone call. That's hooey, and know that I've called myself on my own hooey, I am going to go exercise right now.

Watch, I'll get back and feel a lot better/less hungry...

I'll be back to report.

toofatforu 08-08-2006 05:41 PM

melissa that is amazing 6 pounds wow i am so happy for you

Heather 08-08-2006 06:15 PM

There. Treadmill done. Not my most intense or fastest workout, but I did it. Annie, thanks for giving me a reminder that not wanting to do it doesn't mean I shouldnt!

melissa -- yay on the 6 pounds! This is why weight loss isn't linear, I have nothing for a few weeks followed by loss sometimes too...

TxTilly 08-08-2006 06:32 PM

 Congrats Melissa on the 6. And I just want to say to everyone that's doing all the exercise, I'm feeling really lazy just now. I KNOW I should exercise, but it's so dang hot that even when I'm indoors I feel "wilted". It's in the 100's here and it's gonna stay that way for awhile.

Hey, I have a question that maybe someone can relate too. I have trouble telling when I'm hungry. My stomach hurts, but sometimes I think I wait too long or something, because it will hurt even after I get something to eat. I can't tell if I'm hungry or if my stomach just hurts. Does that make sense? I never got the chance to be hungry before! LOL So what does it feel like?:o

rkrs6673 08-08-2006 06:35 PM

Melissa Congrats on the 6 lb loss. That is super cool!

2LosinIt 08-08-2006 07:17 PM

Hi Everyone!

Glad to see so many good successes. Annie--woohoo on getting to Curves!
I am still on the steady flatline. Still playing with the same three pounds. I keep consoling myself that at least I haven't gone up higher than that, but it's been so long since I've seen any new numbers DOWNwards that I've almost forgotten what it's like to lose.

But -- I've also not been moving my butt, so it's not like I can blame anything other than myself. I'm getting more on track with a routine in my eating habits, but no so much in the movin' and shakin' area. Maybe I need to take some lessons from you all! Can some of you just come to my house and FORCE me? :D

 Jilly -- nice to see you here! Luan too! ltns!

Work is at a new high again -- those freshmen all come back very soon and there is a lot yet to do to get ready. Fall orientation to prepare, Welcome Week to get all in place, and all sorts of programs. But it's fun -- just wish I had an extra 2 weeks in there.

:?: random question...... :?: Does anyone know how much sodium is too much sodium? I always here "watch out for prepared foods becasue of the sodium" and I understand what to omuch sodium can DO... but... I dont get how much is too much? And, how about carbs? If you're not specifically on a "JUST SAY NO TO CARDS" diet, but you want to be smart about it.... what is a normal amount on a healthy weight loss diet? Anyone know?

Yeah on the New Site with Easier Picture Posting.... Maybe I'll actually be motivated to post some pics here finally :) At least I'll have no excuses :dizzy:

Anyone see Crock? Thought of all you nascar fans this past weekend when the brickyard was in Indy.... it's crazy around here at race time.

Kayley -- what is the ADventure place in Michigan you referred to???

Well -- lots to reply to but not a lot of time -- more later... consider yourself all high fived! :high:

Mel

justcallmeprissi 08-08-2006 08:37 PM

Hi everyone! I'm glad that you all seem to be doing well! Just reading your comments gives me such a better outlook on this journey we are taking together. Weight loss is so difficult, but it's worth the pain!

Update: I've started to notice subtle changes in my body. I workout everyday. I've lost a pound or so... I'm really happy about that.

I read an article the other day. It was discussing poor self-image. This article suggested that we focus on what our body can do instead of what It can't. I just found that to be really good advice, and wanted to share!

newsnerd 08-08-2006 08:39 PM

Dogpal- Great job getting back to Curves. Making myself get out and do some exercise is a constant challenge, so I feel your pain! Keep it up!

Melissa- Congrats on the 6 lbs. That's great!:cheer:

Tilley- I know what you mean about the heat! It's been plain steamy here, too. And as far as the hungry/stomach pains, I think I know what you mean. I sometimes get a weird feeling that is sort of hunger-like, but it usually occurs like an hour after I eat, so it's not hunger pangs. Dunno what that is. And there were times that I went for weeks w/o actually feeling hungry. It's a pretty good feeling to have back!

Vilandra485 08-08-2006 08:51 PM

Thank you sooo much to everyone who gave me congrats - it means alot to share the good things that happen. :)

Hi Ladies - Was at the mall today...planned to walk home with DH until we headed out of the mall into a HUGE RAINSHOWER!!! UGH!! It was just gushing out. :( So, needless to say we couldn't walk 2 miles in that with no jackets!! (It was around 80 degrees when we left home!!) But I did get in 30 minutes walking from my errands to the mall and such. So, it's something...I'm gonna try to fit in something else later with DH though. Well, that's it for right now!
Hope everybody has a good day, stay OP chickies!!

Melissa

Abbeycat36 08-08-2006 08:53 PM

Hi Everyone,

Congrats Melissa -6 you definitely have worked for it!!
Nice that you're seeing numbers too that you have not seen in a long time.

Congrats Ammi for -2! yay!!

justcallmeprissi- happy to hear you are doing well too. Losing weight is not just physical effort, it takes a lot of work in the emotion department too, I'm sure everyone would totally agree.

wyllenn - Do you have a cordless phone? No jack where your treadmill is? I got a phone that has 2 handsets, and only 1 needs to be plugged in to the actual jack. The other one just plugs into the wall (power) and it can sit anywhere, and communicates with the master phone set. I put it downstairs with my workout gear right in eye's view of my equipment. If I see the red light flashing, I won't miss the call. I sometimes have trouble saying "okay now get down there and do it" and it's a mind thing. Try this - it's worked for me - tell youself that you only HAVE to show up for 20 minutes. 20 mins goes by pretty quick. By the time you do 20 minutes, you are warmed up and if you are scheduled to do more, then you won't mind doing it. I alternate my workouts and on my weight lifting days (every second day) I only have to do 20 min cardio, the rest is weights. On my other days I split my cardio between 2 machines that i have. If I say "ugh I don't feel like doing this one" I do 10 and switch machines, back and forth.
These little tricks have worked for me since 2001 when I started exercising.

By the way everyone today was a -3 for me this week! Wheeeee

Here's what hubby got me in Hawaii on his trip:
Pineapple earrings (they are a wee bit kooky lookin but I love them since they came from him)
A Hawaii mug with pineapples on it
Keychain, pineapples on it
Magnets for fridge
postcards
Pineapple shaped wall ornament
Yeah.. why all of the pineapples? When he asked what I'd like to have i said a Pineapple, a real one. But then I remembered you can't transport food over the border, so I said get me something with pineapples on it.

~ Angie

Vilandra485 08-08-2006 09:01 PM

Hehe, I have worked for it. haven't I? :) Thank you, Abbeycat!! And CONGRATS on your great loss this week!! :cheer:

jillybean720 08-08-2006 09:09 PM

Mel--I'd always heard you should have a maximum of 2400mg of sodium a day (less if you have high blood pressure or other health conditions that cound be affected by sodium). At least, that's the guideline for "normal" people on a 2000-2500 calorie diet. Of course, just like anything else, some people are more sensitive to it than others. I have friends who can eat fast food every day and be just fine, but when I was eating a little single serving of canned mac n cheese each day, the added sodium pushed my blood pressure up

rkrs6673 08-08-2006 09:12 PM

Angie-- Congrats on your weight loss! You are doing so great

2LosinIt 08-08-2006 10:55 PM

Thanks, Jilly --- at least that gives me some context. I've never known anything about sodium---so that helps a lot. Appreciate it! :)

Carbs, anyone? :)

I don't know how I could shake it up any more LOL, at least and still work. This month so far I have averaged 89 minutes a DAY of exercise! Yikes!

And I live in a third floor walkup also, by choice. Don't like carrying things up the steps but it is wonderful when I get up here... a "fairlyland" at night when I can see the lights "forever."

HI everyone!

Thanks everyone you guys are all so sweet here

Misti wow girl you do a lot of exercise already ..whew. What kind of exercises do you do? Maybe you need to change the type.. sometimes your body adapts with exercise like it does with food. Just an idea. ? Maybe you already mix it up I don't know but I thought I'd mention it in case.

I got hubby out with me tonight for our first outside walking day! 40 mins and some uphill. I did great for the first 20 but after the big hill my legs were getting tired. ugh.
