Good morning!
Hello, How are all of you this morning. I think I am ok. LOL! Too early to tell. I spent the morning in the Drs office yesterday, so crowded! We had a nice long chat. She thinks I need to have my thyroid checked again. My skin has started to look dry, extra dry, and all of the lotion in the world doesn't seem to help, and no, not the water either. Soooo....they took what seemed like a pint of blood and she will let me know the outcome. I made a list of the things I wanted to discuss with her and it was a good thing. I would have forgotten half of them.
Terri, Glad to see you back. I know how hard moving is. I am just glad that it is over, or almost over for you. I second what 2cute said...I would leave that stuff in storage until I could get organized in the new place. Sounds as if Bear is loving his freedom, poor ponies! I know you are happy to finally have them with you. 2cute, I get that not learning from your (our) mistakes...when do we ever? And yeah, anything you have to do physically is harder when you are too fat. I am having a devil of a time getting in and out of my little old caddy. I do mean little. It is a Catera, and they are small. Once you are in they are comfortable. The problem is my big old legs and butt have a hard time climbing in. LOL!:o Geez, I keep saying I am going to get a bigger vechicle, but the fact is that I need to lose weight instead. Karen, you are welcome for the smilies.:) Good thinking on packing the water. Baby steps, I don't think I have welocmed you to the group yet....welcome! Stick around and post often. There is a lot of good advice and good people here. Sue, I don't get to read often when my Mom is here, but when I do read it is usually a book by Nora Roberts because my daughter keeps buying them. LOL! I have heard of the author and read a review of one of the books. Sounds interesting. Maybe I can nudge my daughter into buying it.;) She would live in the bookstore if they would let her. It is time for me to get off this chair and do some cleaning.....sigh. Moms girl Friday didn't get to come this week because of my Dr. appt. I think I am spoiled. It is good for me though, cleaning that is. At least it makes me move around.:jig: Which do you need this morning...:kickbutt: or:dust: Later, Ruth |
Good morning!
So much for daily exercise. I haven't been able to wake up this morning. I think all the stress is catching up with me because I have been sleeping like a log at night. This morning, I kept going back to sleep in between the alarms. I need to get up and find the power cord for the laptop. I need to work on bill stuff at lunch. Gee, wonder what box that's in. 2Cute - How are you doing with the flex points? Is the dietician to help you balance out your foods better? Yes, most of us have been on some form of a diet for so long that we could advise others - its the follow-through that is our problems. We KNOW what to do but seem to forget. Enjoy the renewed knowledge! Ruth - Dr offices are not fun. Hope they find something out about the thyroid. Maybe that will help with the weight loss too. Barb.G - Where are you? Everything going okay? Its been too long since you checked in. Lilion - I know you're off on your SCF event. I hope you're having a great time. Thin - You've been too quiet too. Valerie - You normally check in while you're out on the road. I'm worried about you and how you're doing this time. Sue - That is funny about your dh and cooking. Mine does all the cooking. He's a good cook but he "forgets" the kinds of food that I want to eat to eat healthier. He pretends he doesn't know what a carb is. Karen - Good job on getting your food pre-prepared. Keep up the enthusiasm. It does make a difference in success. to everyone else! Keep up all the great work. Time to get off the floor. However, the dog and I could very easily go back to sleep right here. Have a great day! |
Karen...thanks again for more excellent advice...since mine is a small cooler (to fit behind the passenger seat in a small car but leave enough room for grandkids legs.....) the frozen water is a perfect solution to both of my problems. Especially during the summer there are a lot of "expectations/obligations" in the way of graduation/confirmation parties, weddings etc...and as everyone knows the food options are not always the greatest.... Congrats also on getting things precooked...that is a key for me as well.
Thanks to all for the welcomes...I really enjoy this group of ladies...we seem to have a lot in common and that is very helpful to me. As the only obese person in my group of friends....actually as even the only one who has more than 10-20 pounds max to lose...I really don't feel that any of them "have a clue" as to what is involved...it doesn't mean that family and friends aren't supportive, they are, but they just don't understand living life as a fat person...and never will I suspect. Anyway....thanks to all...it is a joy to be a part of your lives and to know that there are others who struggle as well..... |
Hairdresser - welcome. Yeah, it is harder to lose now, and it would have been nice to go into menopause all svelte, but I didn't do it. So now, it'll probably take me longer. Oh, well, so what else have I got to do with my life? I do know that I feel better as I eat more healthily, exercise more, and slowly lose weight. Someday, I'll be gorgeous, right now I'm settling for "better."
Karen, Yum, Whole Foods! We do better there when we go in with a list! Fortunately, TJ has reasonably-priced splurges, so we have out impulse shopping there. Glad you're here with all your good ideas. Terri - glad you're back, girl. You're right, after a certain point, hiring help is a good thing. This hit when we took DD to Disney World at 4. Kid stuff, husband stuff, airport we'd never been too. I looked at my wallet, and went "RedCap!" He got us organized, knew where the car rental place was, knew where the cars were in the parking structure. I tipped him $20.00, and he was worth every penny. The last time we moved, I packed, but we had the new place cleaned for us. Leave the stuff in storage, and get the air conditioning going. Ruth - hope the doctor comes up with an answer for you. I don't like just feeling decrepit! Well, I've put this off as long as I could - as you know, my schedule has been off kilter - less exercise than normal, husband cooking (I didn't tell you about the chinese food night, right - he got all my favorites), little snacks here and there - and when I got on the scale this AM, after 2 weeks at 250, I was up to 254. I'm sick about it. But it sure got me back on track today. I even weighed my lunch hummas. Hopefully, some of it is water, and will go quickly. I'm glad I did my personals before I wrote the above. It helped to remember that I have made progress, and that I caught the wobblies before things got really out of hand. So, no more skinny cow in the house for a good while. Thanks for being here, guys. Sue |
Just a quickie: My internet is down, and don't know when it will be up. I'm at the library right now and only have 2 minutes ledt on my session. I've tried to speed read to get me up to date, but no time to say more than HI!

Barb ... so glad you got to stop in long enough so we don't worry about you.
I hope you get your computer problems solved soon. Now if we can just get Thin back here too. (hint hint .. I know you are reading this Thin.) ;) There are more of you missing too ... and I want you ALL BACK .... but I have known Terri,Thin and Barb for years and they are like sisters to me now. All of you are all like family... but I think you know what I mean ... I am going to take my foot out of my mouth now. :foot: LOL Sue ... sometimes those little gains can be blessings in disguise. We can use them as "downers" and let them get our spirits down.... Or ... we can use them as eye openers and use them to get our "weight down" with IMPROVED eating choices. It sounds like you are making the wiser choice. :high: Okay... I started this post over an hour ago. I got a phone call and I just found out the person in charge of a LARGE group picnic of 50-75 people is unable to do it. So guess who does. Yep, ME :yikes: I was not even going to go to this picnic and now I am responsible for buying , cooking and setting up the entire event THIS SATURDAY !!! It is going to be simple ... Hot dogs and chips. LOL I wish I could keep it that simple. I know me... I always have to make it as close to Perfect as possible. LOL NO !!! I am going to use some of my "NEW" wisdom ... and simplify !!! But even simple is complicated when you are providing EVERYTHING from paper plates, napkins and plastic silverware .... to Meat, sides, and desserts. Man... I am getting tired just thinking about it. :faint: I may not be here again until Sunday. LOL Okay... gotta go... lots of planning to do. :write: |
Hello, Super-hens!!!!!!!!!! :chicken: :chicken: :chicken: Long time no cluck and peck, and I'm So glad to be back!!!
 :dancer: I'm about 500 posts behind if I count the main thread, and i just can't even try to catch up over there, but I've at least skimmed thru to keep up here... Let's see... A HUGE :welcome: to all our new members!!! I see we have quite a few great new ladies with challanges like my own. Let's OVERCOME together! Thanks so much for missing me. It's heartwarming to come back and find your kind comments, ladies!!! Karen - I saw that you're an HR person. Me too! Trying to work on my MS in between truck stops.:^: 2CUTE, You know what they say... If you want something done, find a busy person to do it... That would be YOU. Good luck with your even this weekend! TERRI, FAAAAAANTASTIC! Congrats on FINALLY making in to your new place. I hope that last horse has made it home by now as well. The heat is really something out your way these days - phew! LILION... Is this your SCA weekend coming up? You picked a hot one, too. EVERYBODY * SORRY I'm not getting to everyone. Please accept my apology!!! I'm just so glad to finally be back online for a bit. We're in Columbia, SC, not far from where I found Simon back in February. (For my new friends, Simon is my now 6 month old dachshund puppy. He's quite the little dictator & destructo-pup, and I adore him. My senior dog, a collie mix, is resigned to the power shift, but has learned to work his own angle. He's still #1.) We started out bouncing from Georgia to WV to NC to Nebraska & Iowa, then Michigan to Louisianna. We spent a couple days in the miserable heat of New Orleans (where the damage remains unbelievable!) and Orlando (where I stayed an extra day to visit with my mom & step-dad) before bouncing up to 'Bama and over to the SC coast - & YUP! T.S. Alberto got us a little wet, but once the rain passed, the sweltering heat came back. We're hoping to head for home to at least drop me off by this weekend. YEAH! - back to exercise class... now that I've lost all my condition. O.K. The South Beach thing. Can't find my book at home, and they didn't have it at Wal-mart the other day when I looked, but I HAVE to get another copy and start again. I'm feeling very ready to start watching the scale go DOWN again. Be strong, be healthy, be happy my friends!:bubbles: |
Good morning ladies,
I've been rearranging the family room furniture instead of exercising this morning. We have big rooms but I'm not liking the layout possibilities for a couch and chair-and-a-half. Trying to figure out how to have them so you can comfortably see the TV, feel like its a grouping, and leave room to walk through to the other rooms. I don't want to cover up windows either. I need more decorator instincts! Today someone is coming to hookup the dishwasher, garbage disposal, and install the new microwave. All black appliances. We bought a GD because there wasn't one here but there was the switch already by the sink. Odd. This is bad, but the old microwave is so gross looking, I can hardly bring myself to even touch the thing to put in a cup of water for instant cappuccino. Hope DH gets the stove hooked up today too. Last nights dinner was grilled pork chop, frozen veggies, and a fresh tomato. Very yummy. We discovered something about microwaving the veggies. Because I haven't unpacked much of the kitchen yet, all I had for the microwave was a Corell platter. I emptied the bag of veggies onto the platter and sprinkled with a bit of garlic powder. I only put just a teaspoon of water on the plate. Nuked them for 8 minutes. They were delicious - not mushy or soggy at all. Valerie - Great to see you checking in. Hope you get dumped off at home very soon! You sound much better this time. I'd send you my SBD if I could find it! Barb.G - Great to see that you're doing okay too. Hope they get that internet fixed soon. Sue - Good luck getting back to your routine and getting those four poiunds back off. You can do it! You know how and what to do. 2Cute - :fr: about the picnic. Yes, you'll work too hard to try to make it perfrect. Don't go nuts though. You know that's not good for you! My battery is about gone. I did finally find the power cord last night. One thing that did for me was that I did a bunch of rearranging of boxes last night. That helped both mentally and I count it as calorie burning activity. to everyone else. P.s. I know how to get Thin back. We can start a big fight on the thread. :D Better get going. Have a great day. |
Good morning friends. Just taking a peek before heading out to swim.
They just announced we have a 50% chance of RAIN Saturday. They predict rain for 3 days so there is a good chance it will be raining. That is not good. I still have to do all the work to be ready for the picnic Friday in case it doesn't rain. And then if it does rain I have to store all that food and plan another picnic to use it up. Grrr LOL Oh well... I will take it one day at a time. okay... I am off to swim. |
Hi all,
Finally broke through another plateau, phew!! I find it the hardest to resist trigger foods when I'm on a plateau. Sue, what is it about men and their meat!! My dh would cheerfully leave vegetables out every meal that he fixes. His office had a pizza party last year and dh went to the table to get us a slice. He asked me what I wanted. I said, "anything with mushrooms" and he came back and said they had no pizza with mushrooms. I said, "Anything with vegetables." He said all they had were variations of meat pizzas. One of the guys had ordered all the pizzas. My daughter and I have a standing joke. When I call her house she often answers, "Paul Revere's Pizza" and I asked for a veggie pizza with extra mushrooms. She says, "Sorry, no veggie pizzas--all we got are meat, meat and more meat." LOL, she does have caller id so she knows it's me. It's frustrating if you go to a pizza buffet and all guys are working because then it'll be a miracle if you get a pizza with veggies, grumble, grumble. Hairdress, welcome!! Did you check out the different diets they have listed here on 3fc? That might give you some direction. Babysteps. I just bought an unbreakable thermos on ebay so I could carry hot water everywhere but I don't know why you couldn't use one for ice cold water. Also, have you tried making granola out of the oatmeal? It's pretty good if you like cinnamon and that is very portable in a ziplock baggy. The recipe is on the website but if you can't find it, let me know. Plus, there are cookie and muffin recipes. I'm burned out on shakes so don't do much with them. My favorite food is the lemon fantasy bar (and I am not even that crazy about lemon). My average day is lemon bar, oatmeal pancakes, cream of chicken soup, chai latte and a "wild" card(depends what I'm in the mood for, lol). Catch you all later, BJ |
BJ...thanks so much for the great suggestions...I'll look for the reicipies as I"m dying with the shakes (and it has only been 3 weeks). Foolish me should have ordered a smaller trial package to test out the flavors etc...I ordered all "sweet" rather than savory (to save the salt)...and I"m going crazy......The granola sounds great..I love cinnamon....
Terri....seems that moving furniture counts as a workout to me...especially if you are anything like I am and have to try the big furniture against every wall....Moving is very difficult...it has been almost 3 years since we did it last and I will be happy if I never move again. To everyone else...thank you for all the welcomes.....I really love this group of ladies...you are fast becoming friends that I feel I can say anything to....I sigh a big sigh of relief to have found each and every one of you....somehow, folks who have never managed the difficulties of obesity just don't "get" it...no matter how hard they try. |
Hi, Barbara - glad you are still scanning us.
2Cute - You are a really good person. But remember that you come first - they get what they get. Delegate, delegate. Valerie - so glad you are back, and can get your schedule going again. Want me to scan some South Beach pages - I do love the recipes, and I periodically reread the introduction to remind myself why I'm doing this. Your puppy reminds me of a kitten we had when I was a teenager - We had a big tricolor collie *****, with a huge white ruff and a basso bark. One of the kitten's favorite sports was to tease other dogs in the neighborhood, then scamper back home and sit between Echo's feet, and when the other dogs ran onto our property, she would get up and send them packing - then kitten would chase them off the property, tail flying and glee written all over his body. Echo would give a big sigh, and lie back down. Now I know what she was saying -- KIDS! Terri - it sounds like you have super decorating instincts! One of my favorite shows was Merge, which is now in reruns, where designers would try to integrate a newly-married couple's possessions into one household; the designers on that show were always moving things around. They would say that you never really know what it'll look like until you get it in place. Bridget - yup - and he even likes vegetables! Last night, he knew I felt bad about my food, and got me a big head of fresh broccoli -- it was ready to steam when I got home from work. Well, 3 of the "pounds from careless ****" are gone. I was perfect on food yesterday, and today have everything planned and ready. It's organization that does it, I swear. Well, I'm off. My lead programmer just came by with "just a couple of changes." Last night I thought I had finished everything - must never think that. Off to cope. Take care, all Sue |
Babysteps, I just started with a two week plan that I picked individually and even that was too much commitment for me, lol. I've figured out ways to make everything edible so far except the minestrone and I have an idea on that but I'm going to have to be in the right frame of mind to try that stuff again. I now just order my food on a weekly basis. While it is a little more expensive that way, I don't have the space in my kitchen, my tastes seem to fluctuate particularly when people on the website are constantly coming up with new recipes and who knows how long I will decide to stick with this anyway, lol.
Terri, 2 yrs on July 15 since I moved and I still haven't located all my kitchen stuff. If it weren't for garage sales..... BJ |
Ruth, I've been wondering about my thyroid, too. My docs have checked it over and over and it always seems okay even though I have so many symptoms that look like thyroid problems. However, one day on Dr. Phil, his wife was talking about how she had undiagnosed thyroid problems and that there was some more spectific test that doctors' overlook that finally diagnosed her. I wish I could remember what the name of that test was. BJ
