--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WELCOME !!!

We are a group of individuals who weigh or have weighed 300+, or near there. This group was formed to provide a place for others like us to find support and hope. We are aware of the distinct problems that come with weighing over 300 lbs.

We want to invite everyone to join us in our journey.
We share laughter and tears.
We share what works for us and what doesn't.
We often use a "Topic of the Day" for discussion.

Motivational Monday
Tuesday Tips
Wednesday Wish List .. and What you are doing to obtain it.
Thankful Thursday
FUN Friday ... don't wait until you lose your weight.
Sit-up Saturdays - any physical activity
Share your Success Sunday

These are not required topics ...just ideas to share. We often find them very helpful. We also share heartaches and fears ... joys and celebrations.

We have several extra threads going on simutaneously such as Monthly Challenges, Weekly Weigh-ins, Recipes, Bios, and more. Please feel free to check them all out.

We have found this thread to be more than just a support group...
we have found it to become a home. We invite you to join us.

WELCOME!

I know you'll all agree that we are really thankful for the free services here at 3FC. The sisters offer all of this support and information with no charges to us. There are a couple of ways though that we can help out.

If you are thinking about buying anything at Amazon, why not help out 3FC at the same time? You can do this by clicking on the button for Amazon on any page in the forum, or by clicking on the button on the main 3FC page at www.3fatchicks.com . A portion of your purchase price will be given to 3FC by Amazon. It doesn't increase your price at all, but it does help out 3FC. You can use any of the Amazon.com links that you see on the site in order to help contribute to the site.

Also, BTW, in case you didn't know it, you can view the message boards "ad free" for a minimal charge. I think it's like $15 for 6 months. A very small investment to be rid of the annoying ads and make your pages load quicker.

There have been some concerns expressed by the powers that be about copyright infringement. So please, if you are directly quoting someone else or printing an article in whole or in part, please give credit where credit is due!!!!

Happy Tuesday All,

Well I hope it is a happy Tuesday for everybody. I let myself down a bit last night. I was having terrible trouble with my PC thanks to a stupid Windows update and nothing was working right. Mind you this was like 2 in the morning and I was tired too. But anyway, I ended up just pulling the plug on the PC and went downstairs and ATE Nothing really bad, just 4 points worth of low fat food lol. But I still let myself down by turning to comfort food again. Oh it's ok, I have picked myself up again, and am fine again back on track, but I just thought I would tell you all about it just so you know I too have slip ups lol :dizzy:

Babs - it really sucks that your new teacher is so inexperienced that 80% of the class are really not ready for the test. Maybe a spokesperson should go to her boss and make a complaint about her. If she won't listen to people saying they don't understand her etc, then she should be made to listen. I hope you do well on the test even though you think you might not, and good luck with the math test too!!

Vicki - that's great that you have somebody to go to the gym with now, and it sounds like you had a great time there, even on that elyptical machine. I never knew you could go backwards on them as well. I would love to try one, maybe one day soon :D Yes I am going to enjoy my lazy week, as long as I keep my house tidy I can worry about the cleaning soon enough

Sue - thanks so much for your message, I will be replying to it as soon as I finish here :)

Futurediva - that is so wonderful that you deliver babies, it's something that I have often wished I could do. But saying that, although most births are good and happy ones, I think it would kill me if I delivered a still born. So I will stick to being a stay at home mum :)

Catherine - only a week to go huh, and counting :D I think it's wonderful that you are treating yourself by going to the beauty shop. What a buzz it will be to fit in the chairs and then have some serious pampering done. I hope you enjoy every minute of it. I just about fit into the chairs in my hair salon, so I will know just from my next hair cut if I am any smaller. Those darn arms won't stick into my legs!!

Karen - sorry the weight isn't budging, but you hang in there, soon enough you will notice a good loss. Great idea to read that book, I heard that the film really put a lot of people off McDonalds. I don't like the place anyway, but I do love their icecream. Naughty me lol.

Luan - sorry to hear you are still feeling unwell, it's a good job you don't feel like eating if there is not a lot in the house anyway. I hope you perk up really soon.

PJ - so lovely to hear from you, and thank you for explaining about your boys. I know what a shock it is when you realise your child/ren have a disability. I was like you for a while, I couldn't help but blame myself for my girl being deaf. First I thought it was because while I was pregnant I only worried about physical deformaties. I thought perhaps I was being punished for only worrying about that, which is why she ended up with a disability you can't see. Also my mum has 15 grand children, and also my hubby at the time had two other kids, and all the children were perfectly healthy. So how come I was the one to have a deaf baby? I really beat myself up over it, and I think you are doing the same about your children. I can say in hindsight that it was so wrong me blaming myself, and you are wrong too. NOBODY is to blame, it's just one of those things. My mum said something very moving to me about it all, she said that perhaps people like me (and I suspect you) are given 'special' children because we have the strength and love to cope. I didn't think I did, but I found out that I did and do, and I hope you will find the same. By the way, next time you decide to have a pity party, you make sure you invite me. We can have a good moan together and then we can help cheer each other up :D

Sharon - hope you are feeling a bit better today, and if you aren't, don't go fretting about the housework, it will be there when you are all better.

Jill - glad you popped in to say hi. Sorry life isn't any less hectic for you. I hope things calm down soon.

Ok well I am going to answer some PMs now and then it's off to email. Take care all.

Hugs,

Ammi

I am new

I have been reading this groups posts the past few days and figured I better go ahead and post a message myself. My name is Andrea. You all can read my bio if you would like under the Bios thread. I started changing not only my lifestyle but my family as well. I started September 19th. I am so hyped and motivated to making this a healthy lifestyle forever...not just a couple weeks or a couple months. I am the type of person that needs support and I really feel like this is the place to come because I know that there are other people that are going through the same thing as I am. My husband supports me and loves me regardless of my size but he doesn't struggle with his weight as much as I do. Are there any current challenges that you all are doing? If not why don't we come up with something. I am up for whatever. Look forward to getting to know you all. :)

babs-My college Organic Chemistry lab instructor spoke no English. Not a single word. The foreign grad students had to take an English test, and he must have had someone take it for him. We had to check our name off a sheet so that the professor would know who was showing up for lab. We were lucky that no one blew themselves up. Looking back, it is possible that he was also deaf, or possibly a CPR mannequin. It certainly makes learning much more difficult.

I got my hair cut, and the beautician lived to tell about it. She spun the chair once, and I almost fell out. I am used to being wedged into any chair with arms, so my butt has not been trained to hang on. I’ve noticed trouble when driving because I used to be wedged behind the wheel. I now have to hang on for dear life when going around corners too fast. I guess it is a good excuse to work on butt crunches. I’ve had many strange things come up on this journey, and can’t wait to see how many more weird things are going to come up.

Voodoo – Creative Writing and English… ahhh… now I know who to go to when I need help with my papers this term *wink* Just teasing! I was thinking about a nose ring myself, and a ummm piercing in my shirt hehehe… but I was told peircings had to be removed, even tho you can’t see the piercing in the shirt, I decided against getting any at all. I work as an Instructional Assistant for the RSP program… (Regional Specialist Program) … a special ed class. I work with 8th graders and some 6th graders. Mainly it’s for learning disabilities, but have had kids with emotional disorders, autism, and other situations that hinder their learning. As far as teaching, I don’t really do much teaching, but the teachers have allowed me to take aside a small group of kids and do some teaching. Particularly the math teachers. I really really enjoy math. So I look forward to the math classes I goto when I make my rounds. They have me alternating classes each period. This year I’m in a Social Studies, Science, English and Math class. I basically follow a particular group of kids around campus. They are mainstreamed but have what they call “Pull-Out” classes for English and Math. I do both RSP Math and Regular Ed Math. I’m going to be graduating in March (I hope, if I can get all my classes when I need them) and then I’ll be able to start substituting… I’m looking forward to that. I wanna sub for math :)

Andrea – WELCOME!!

I’m feeling burnt out and it’s only the second day of class this week… is that a bad sign? I’ve been in school since I graduated high school in 94. I really want out! I’m so close to the end, at least graduating in March with my BA… but then I have another year or year and half for my credentials. UGH! Trying to keep my motivation high. March is only 1 more term away! I can do this!!! Someone give me some super wheaties!

I gotta run ladies… hope all is well… I have to leave for work in 30 minutes and then I have class til 8pm tonight. Got a lot of work to do.

Take care everyone!
Sue…

Hello Again friends,

Not many people have posted since this afternoon when I posted. I hope everybody is happily busy, not poorly or to down to write.

Andrea - welcome, you have come to the right place for all the support you need. I understand entirely about having a loving supportive husband. But no matter how loving, unless they are going through what we are you know they can't really understand how we feel. As for the challenge thing, I think there are separate threads where people are doing challenges. Personally they aren't my thing. I want to be happy with whatever weight I lose and not be disappointed if and when I don't meet a challenge weight.

Catherine - you certainly have a way with words. I could just picture you flying out of that chair, and also hanging on for grim death when you take a corner in car at speed lol. I think you could write a book about your experiences. I for one would definitely read it.

Sue - glad to hear from you but sorry to hear you are feeling worn out already. I hope you get a good nights sleep ready to face tomorrow and all it brings.

Take care all, and bye for now,

Hugs,

Ammi :dizzy:

CatherineM 09-27-2005 05:46 PM

Ammi-I am writing a book. It is called the laying in bed diet. It's not really a diet book, just a book about how someone gets to be nearly 600 lbs., and how I turned it around. I can't finish it yet because the ending hasn't happened yet. No one will buy a book about losing weight from someone still over 300 lbs. When I hit goal, then I will have a before and after for the back cover that will turn heads.

AmmiUK 09-27-2005 06:08 PM

That's awesome Catherine. You could always do it as a sequel lol. I want a signed copy of each when you get it published please :D

Hugs,

Ammi

Hi from Down Under

I have just joined and this is the place for me. I currently weigh 330lbs, the heaviest i have ever been, I live in the bush in Central Queensland , married with a fabulous husband, 5 children ranging from 16 to 9, I work full time as a nurse, and just seem to be going up and up on the scales. I now am starting to have health problems and at 37 its way too young. :(
I would love some support and advice from others who are on their way down.
Look forward to keeping in touch

futurediva 09-27-2005 08:03 PM

Hello ladies! welcome andrea and teena, you will find much love and support here. Teena, the one thing i want to say to you, is to never give up! that is advice i wished i had believed many years ago. We didnt get overwt overnight, so it is going to take some time for us to lose the weight. Be good to yourself, love yourself, and believe that anything is possible. An also, dont compare you or your wt loss efforts to anyone else; we are all different and unique:)
Catherine, how did you get your hair cut? I love hair, makeup, and clothes. i think i was a cosmetologist in a previous life!
Dogpal: i miss your posts:(. hope you are doing well.

AndreaS30 09-27-2005 08:13 PM

Welcome Teena!!!! I am new as well and I am here to support you and everyone else. We are all going through the sams struggles day to day. I started my new healthy lifestyle on September 19th. I look forward to chatting with all of you.

AndreaS30 09-27-2005 08:39 PM

What kind of plan is everyone on? I am just eating healthier all together. No sodas....just water or sugar free Kool-Aid. I have been eating three meals a day with one to two snacks. I am watching my fat, sugar and carbs....Two things that I have grown to love is Yoplait fat free yogurt with a little bit of Grape Nuts sprinkled on the top....it is soooo good and also for breakfast I tried the Thomas English Muffins...the light whole grain ones and those are very good as well. As far as exercise I have been walking a mile and a half each night and doing weights about three days a week. My elliptical trainer is calling my name in the garage...I need to start doing that to get some cardio in. Can you all share some of your favorite snacks??? :)

JuleeCeeS 09-28-2005 12:01 AM

Welcome newbies...sometimes I am a lutker and sometimes I am a talker. I have a quick break so I figured I'd say hi.

I'm Julee..joined 3FC in February when I started WW (Core program) and have since lost 70 lbs. I fel like a whole new person..I still have a ways to go but knowing what I have accomplished so far fuels my fire. I'd be happy to talk to anyone about WW and my plan...or share snacks and stuff like that.

I'm off and running as usual...

jillybean720 09-28-2005 07:07 AM

JuleeCees--I just have to say that you are such an inspiration! I started around the same time as you here, and yet you've lost 40 pounds more than me. You're doing awesome--care to share some of that drive with me?! ;)

Andrea--I usually just count calories. I was doing high-protein (kinda low-carb, but still with lots of fruit, too) for a while, and I was keeping track of my calories while doing it, and I think my calories were WAY too low for me, so I'm back to just counting calories. Oh, and I LOVE sugar-free kool aid, too (especially the mixed fruit or fruit punch or whatever they call it) :D It seems to have so much more flavor to me than Crystal Light.

Dogpal--your book must be AMAZING. I love just reading your short posts on here, so I would imagine a whole book would be just as informative and entertaining!

Okay, so I ended up eating a little more yesterday than anticipated. I had my usual instant oatmeal for breakfast, then for lunch I had a wrap of grilled chicken, swiss cheese, lettuce, and honey mustard in a spinach wrap and a cup of tomato-vegetable soup (the sign said cream of tomato, but it wasn't very "creamy", and there were pieces of carrot, onion, and other unidentifiable veggie chunks) and a bottle of Nesquik reduced-fat chocolate milk (another new addiction, but a bad one!). Because I knew I was SO over in calories from lunch, I didn't eat any dinner (I fell asleep when I got home anyway, so dinner wasn't really an option). I was still at almost 1700 calories for the day--it's amazing how much you can pack into one meal without even realizing it :o

So I learned yesterday that I am very bad at going to the cafeteria for lunch. I had planned on just having my other oatmeal for lunch, but once I got down there and saw all the good stuff and smelled all the good smells...today will be different. I won't bring any money or deit cards with me, so I will only be going for the walk and the company of my coworkers. I also brought some turkey sausage to have for lunch, and I'm eating a packet of oatmeal right now. I also have another oatmeal for later on.

In good news, I went for my "training" for my part-time editing job yesterday. The woman who was training me is clearly NOT an editor--I corrected some mistakes she was making and cringed as she left some mistakes in the report (I didn't want to seem too much like a know-it-all, ya know?). From what I understood, they were going to start me with these smaller shops first, then bring me into the hospitality (hotel) group later because those reports are much longer. However, I went to the head of the hospitality department yesterday while I was there to make sure she received my Contractor Agreement form that I had faxed over, and we made an appointment for me to go back this afternoon to do the hospitality training with her so I can get started on those reports as well. Yay, more reports = more $$ :smug:
