300+ And Ready To Try Again.. #748

WELCOME !!!

We are a group of individuals who weigh or have weighed 300+, or near there. This group was formed to provide a place for others like us to find support and hope. We are aware of the distinct problems that come with weighing over 300 lbs.

We want to invite everyone to join us in our journey.
We share laughter and tears.
We share what works for us and what doesn't.
We often use a "Topic of the Day" for discussion.

Motivational Monday
Tuesday Tips
Wednesday Wish List .. and What you are doing to obtain it.
Thankful Thursday
FUN Friday ... don't wait until you lose your weight.
Sit-up Saturdays - any physical activity
Share your Success Sunday

These are not required topics ...just ideas to share. We often find them very helpful. We also share heartaches and fears ... joys and celebrations.

We have several extra threads going on simutaneously such as Monthly Challenges, Weekly Weigh-ins, Recipes, Bios, and more. Please feel free to check them all out.

We have found this thread to be more than just a support group...
we have found it to become a home. We invite you to join us.

WELCOME!

I know you'll all agree that we are really thankful for the free services here at 3FC. The sisters offer all of this support and information with no charges to us. There are a couple of ways though that we can help out.

If you are thinking about buying anything at Amazon, why not help out 3FC at the same time? You can do this by clicking on the button for Amazon on any page in the forum, or by clicking on the button on the main 3FC page at www.3fatchicks.com . A portion of your purchase price will be given to 3FC by Amazon. It doesn't increase your price at all, but it does help out 3FC. You can use any of the Amazon.com links that you see on the site in order to help contribute to the site.

Also, BTW, in case you didn't know it, you can view the message boards "ad free" for a minimal charge. I think it's like $15 for 6 months. A very small investment to be rid of the annoying ads and make your pages load quicker.

Hi ladies. It's been a long week. My fiance left for his parents' house yesterday, and will be gone two weeks. I'm trying to rearrange, clean, and sort through all my crap that can go away while he's gone. He's moving in here when he gets back, and I want things to go smoothly so it's better for me to do it now rather than try to fit it all in when he gets back.

I haven't lost anything. I've barely been maintaining. Today, the scale said I'm at 334, which is still a pound higher than the last time I posted. However, three days ago, the scale said 340 so I'm not entirely sure what's going on. It has to be water weight, but I'm not sure how or why - I'm getting enough but not too much, still eating the same portions/calories, and still exercising regularly. *sigh*

The good thing is that Mr. will be joining me at the gym. He wants to lose weight too, so maybe I can convince him to cut out all the junk and general empty-calorie foods that he insists on invading my house with :P I don't mind having it here, because my willpower is so much better than it used to be, but it's money that's wasted because he doesn't eat all of it, so we end up throwing it out because I won't touch it.

Hopefully you ladies are having a great week! Congrats for the losses, welcome to the newcomers, and remember.. each step you take is another step towards your future.

KittieCat 08-09-2005 10:33 PM

Brandnewme: the scale has been going up and down for me too. I think its time for me to just put it away for awhile. Good luck cleaning up. :)

I have to say that exercising is really making me feel better overall. I am kind of sore but it's still alot better then the way I had been feeling about two weeks ago. Tomorrow I am going to go to the doctor and ask him what I can do about my one knee because I feel some degree of pain doing certain exercises. Oh well that's it for me tonight, time to get ready for bed. :dizzy:

Mazarin 08-10-2005 03:45 AM

I am trying not to head to the scales, I really want to hold off getting weighed until 2 weeks have passed! I am working hard at the gym, I am trying not to eat crap, in fact no chocolate for over a week which is a great thing for me! :)

I cannot wait to get under the 330 mark! I will be so happy! :)

futurediva 08-10-2005 07:37 AM

Hi ladies, i have been having computer difficulties, so i havent posted in a few days, but im still here:) Hope everyone is doing well, im still hanging in there:)
Esmaruade: while catching up on the posts, i noticed your comments about the size of things, dont be discouraged! Were the clothes you were trying on junior plus sizes? This makes a huge difference! I think a junior 3x is equivelant to a 1x in womens. Anyway i totally agree that sizes are cut different today than a few years ago.
Have a great day and hopefully my computer will cooperate with me this week:)

jillybean720 08-10-2005 08:35 AM

Wow, I think I missed the entire last thread--I am so behind! I'll have to go read to catch up with everyone, but for now, HI!!

I have been pretty busy this week (and it's only Wednesday--ugh!). I got SLAMMED at job #2 on Monday night--in my first hour, I was on alone (I'm a waitress at Ruby Tuesday for those of you who don't know). Now, it is normal for me to be on alone for that hour or so since I come on at 4 and most others come on at 5:15. Normally, I'll have like 5 or 6 tables in that time, but on Monday, I had 11 :o And not spread out--that would be too easy--11 all at one time. For anyone who's ever served before, I can safely say that a normal amount of tables in a chain restaurant like this is only about 4-5 (6 if you're really on your game), so with 11, I was going insane! and then they moved me to a different section so I was a later cut, and I didn't get home till after 11. I tell ya, when that alarm went off at 4:30 yesterday morning, it was not pretty...:p

Yesterday, I had a dentist appointment to drill out a broken filling and replace it. Of course, it had to be betwen two molars, so they had to use this metal clam/crank device to separate the teeth for drilling, and since it was the 2 molars in the back, they treated my mouth as if it were rubber, bending and stretching and pulling...the left side of my face is pretty sore today. Also, no gym after work today since I have to work late in order to make up for taking an hour off on Friday to take the new hire out to lunch (I don't normally take time off for lunch), then straight to job #2 again at 4 today. I am praying I'm not as busy--yes, the $$ is nice, but it costs me extra in lack of sleep and burning feet :dizzy:

2x2 challenge thread

(Apologies for cross-posting this, but I wanted to make sure everyone knew about it!)

Some time ago, the "300+ and Ready To Try Again" gals used to regularly participate in a "2x2 challenge". Terri (Determined to succeed) did a great job of starting the challenges and keeping track, but got busy over summer.
I found these challenges really useful and motivating, and would like to see them happening again so I am starting a new thread for a fortnightly 2x2 challenge - everyone welcome!
If you would like to participate. just head over there and add your name to the list :)

Good Wednesday afternoon everyone!

Not much new to report. Still eating well and suffering in the humidity!

Trying to decide what exercise to add in when I am able in a couple of weeks (currently nursing a very hurt shoulder).

My options are:

1. Water aerobics from 8-9 at night (love the activity-not crazy about the time cuz I usually go to bed at 9)
2. Re-joining Curves (looking like the best starting option; I know it works).
3. Joining a gym that has a small lap pool and some water classes (the most costly of the bunch).

Otherwise, life is pretty much the same right now. Hope everyone is having a good day!

Onward and downward!

SueMarie301 08-10-2005 04:27 PM

Hi Ladies…

Brandnewme – I get the same thing with the scale. It might be water. Its been hot here and drinking a lot of water, so might be retaining it. Even tho been sweating like a mad man, who knows?

Jilly – I feel ya! I’ve been so out of it as well… so much stuff going on! OUCH! My teeth hurt just reading your post! Hehehe

Hippygoddess – I wondered what happened to the challenges… I’m looking forward to it!

Okie Folks… I’m hoping to hit the gym tommorrow. I’m going out to lunch with a friend as well, so I’m going to need that gym time!

I’ve got a busy schedule ahead and I only got 2 more weeks left in my summer break and no ME time yet WAHHH! I have a birthday coming up on the 20th for a friend, I’ll be going to vegas the following weekend (8-26 to 28), I start work on 8-30 (yay for another year with 8th graders!!! ) then I have the Angels game on the 3rd of September which I will be bringing the kid with me cause she wanted to go for her birthday. I have a State exam on the following weekend (9-10) and then I have a Laughlin trip with some friends for Party Gras (9-16 to 18) then I start fall classes sometime around September 20th-23rd. OOOH! I have to go to the VA’s place to my paper work in order for school as well. :yikes: Oh man… I almost forgot about that :( I gotta go find my tax papers!!

Okie ladies, I gotta run  everytime I close my eyes something else pops up!

Catch you all later!
Sue…

JuleeCeeS 08-10-2005 11:41 PM

Wow...everyone sounds so busy! I haven't posted much lately but I have been lurking. I'm down another 2.8...for a grand total of 61.9 lbs. I feel fantastic and am so happy!!

Nothing much else to report...went back to work and have been very focused on that.

Talk soon...

activeadventurer 08-10-2005 11:50 PM

Hi Ladies,

Glad to find this group. DCM

Mazarin 08-11-2005 03:18 AM

I was a little naughty last night, when out shopping I bought some pop tarts for my new toaster... I was only having two and ended up eating 6 in an hour..... shared with the dog of course! :( How bad of me but I think to myself it's the first bit of bad food I have eaten in over 2 weeks so it's an improvement on eating rubbish every day!

and I made up for it at the gym this morning doing 20 laps of the pool BEFORE work.... I'll be asleep by dinner! lol

SueMarie301 08-11-2005 04:44 PM

Happy Thursday Everyone!

I wanna share a recipe … hehehe it’s for a smoothie.

Peachy Keen Smoothie

1.5 cups of Fresh Peaches chilled 111 calories (white/yellow – I used yellow)
½ cup Fresh Red Raspberries chilled 30 calories
½ can All Natural Peach Nectar 104 calories (I used Kerns)
8 oz Yoplait 99% FF Peach Yogurt 226 calories

Blend Nectar and Yogurt. Add Fruit and blend til smooth.

Makes approx. seven 4oz servings at 70 calories per serving.

I think I have the calorie count on that set up correctly. I like to chill the fruit to somewhat frozen and then blend in ice cubes to make it more like a daiquiri type drink hehehe. I tried it with out the ice and it’s a bit much for me. The ice helps thin the strong fruit taste.

It’s been an interesting day today. I had lunch with a good friend. We went to a Mexican buffet place… ICK! I was good tho! I had lots of fruits and then had one cheese enchilada, a small scoop of rice and some of the shredded beed/pork meat. I’m hoping to get to the gym tonight. We’ll see what happens when James gets home. He said he wanted to go with me so I’ll wait.

In the mean time I’m thinking about formatting the kids computer and seeing if it can handle XP hehehe…

I’ll be back later :)

Sue…

KittieCat 08-11-2005 04:57 PM

Mazarin: I slipped a bit too (guacamole and chips).

Sue: That recipe sounds really good. I just have to try that this weekend when I am having company.

I think I am starting to get a cold. It took all my strength this morning to exercise. I really don't want to get sick since I am supposed to be having family over this weekend. Plus I am not the nicest person when I get sick. I have depression and it gets worse when I am sick and I tend to take it out on those around me. Thankfully my husband can brush it off because he knows me so well. Off to take some vitamin c and eat some yogart. :)

jillybean720 08-12-2005 06:17 AM

Woohoo! I posted a loss of 5.25 pounds at last night's TOPS meeting :D I definitely needed it after the 2.75-pound gain I had last week :o I'm now only 1 pound away from a new decade--time to get myself out of the 280's!

netekay 08-12-2005 11:39 AM

Congratulations Jill! I knew you would have a good loss this week!!!

Lilion 08-12-2005 11:57 AM

Hooray Jill! Good for you! I knew that gain was temporary - then again, so did you once you thought about it! :bravo:

I, myself, lost not a pound this past week. But, having lost the week before after all the bad food, I'm not too upset about it. And I'm wearing my size 20 jeans today...which seem awfully tight when I'm sitting down, but only because I'm so used to stretchy size 24's! I've been complimented twice today on how much I've lost though, so comfort be darned!

Hope you all are having a happy, healthy OP day!

thinthinker 08-12-2005 04:57 PM

CONGRATS to all the big losers over here! WooHoo for you! :woo:

SueMarie: The smoothie sounds GREAT. I must have done something wrong though because when I add up the calories you listed, I come up with 417 and that divided by 4 servings is 118 calories per serving.

Xena2005 08-12-2005 07:45 PM

Well, I FINALLY made it to the gym after joining earlier this week. I went swimming. Yes, I was in public in a bathing suit. Wasn't quite as scary as I thought it would be but will be nice to get some of the lumps and bumps off anyway. I did about 12 laps in the pool. Now I know why Olympic swimmers, men and women have those broad shoulders. Man, I feel like my arms were about ready to fall off! That's good though. My arms need toned up. I plan to go back and swim again tomorrow morning. There is a water aerobics class at 8:30. I'd like to try that, but I am nervous about it and thought I could swim my laps while scoping out the class before I actually give it a try. I'm a sissy, I know.

Anyway, I want to thank all of you who have been sharing your experiences with exercising in the pool. Without you, I NEVER would have taken this step.

CatherineM 08-12-2005 09:14 PM

Xena-That's great! See you didn't get struck by lightning. My water aerobics instructor always says that in the water, your body only has to endure 10% of your weight on your joints, but the water resistance is 12 times the resistance that you get exercising in just the air. Believe me, the water aerobics class will be filled with the aged, infirm, and flabby. The hard bodies prefer to do the regular aerobics class or spinning classes. If you got a great body, you don't want to exercise with it hidden in water, you want to wiggle it out front. Just tell the instructor that you are new, and try to get a spot near her so you can hear and see the moves clearly. I wear goggles because I can't see my hand in front of my face without prescription goggles. They have come in very handy though to take a quick peek below the surface at the instructor's leg movements when I didn't understand exactly what she was doing. Just do as much as you can for as long as you can, and it gets easier.

SueMarie301 08-13-2005 03:10 PM

Kittie Cat – Did you ever get a chance to try that smoothie recipe? How was it?

Jilly – Congrats on the 5.25lbs WOOHOO!!

ThinThinker – you divided by 4, that means it would have been a larger serving… what I calculated was 7 servings for a total of approx 4 oz for the drink which gave me the 67 calories. I also it was calculated out 4 servings of 6 oz which came out to 117 calories. Depends on the size of the serving.

Xena – Congrats on trying the pool out! I too know that I had some reservations about being in public with a swimsuit. I use the pool at the University Campus. Nothing like being a big chick in a swimsuit in front of all these hard body hot campus guys  But it was okie… I’m still a bit self conscious, but if I get in the pool fast, all is well heheheheh

Hippievanlady – I noticed that too… we have one lady who is younger than myself andhas a great body, but she’s pregnant. But as far as any other body type, it is the aged and flabby as you have mentioned. Never thought of that. My instructor is a fit woman tho. It definitely gets easier tho as you said. And don’t do anything that feels funny!

It was a great night last night. I was out all over the place so I didn’t have time to post. My service engine soon light came up on my car and so I left my house at 6:30 a.m. to get to the dealership by 7:30 a.m. Just to avoid any line ups and get in early enough so I could get my car back sooner. Anyways, I can take m car to the San Bernardino dealership but I don’t like them, they didn’t treat me very well so I took my car to the Moreno Valley dealership. They treat you like people there and not some female twit who knows crap about cars. My dads an engineer who works on cars and planes so I learned from him… I remember one guy was trying to explain to me what an oil pan was versus an oil filter… I’m like DUH! I can change my own oil! Anyways, now that I’ve strayed from my point  I go to the Moreno Valley dealership because they’ve been taking care of my and m family for quite a few years. So I pull up to the dealership leave my car there and around noon time they call and I go to pick up my car. It ends up costing me $40 for them to tell me, yes your car left a code in the computer which gave you the service engine soon light. You had an evaporation leak and pressure was not building properly. So to put that in easier words… my gas cap was loose!!!! I spent $40 for them to tell me my gas cap was loose :-P

After I picked up my car, my parents and I went house shopping. They want a new house but I think they’re crazy. Specially with market prices. I’m just concerned that my father is never going to be able to retire and enjoy his life with a house that is going to cost him over 500k. That’s being cheap too, houses out here are ridiculous! I can maybe see it if he was moving closer to work, since he has to get up at 3am to get to his van pool by 4am and then get to work by 6 am. He’s an Engineer for Lockheed. Then he gets home at 5pm. OY! My works at leasts works closer. She’s a dealer in a casino tho, and the second hand smoke is killing her. :( I just would hate to see them take on any more bills.

Okie now that I’ve rambled and whined… good news is my team took all 3 games last night for league. Next week is positions week. I think we’re third? Might be second but it depends on how the team above us did. Then the week after that is Vegas… I’m looking forward to this trip! I wanna see the Blue Man Group!! Hehehe

Oh, and I’m down 1lb! I don’t know how with all the cravings I had with Aunt Flo and Uncle TOM here. Not to mention the water retention  but it’s still a loss and I’m happy :)

Okie ladies, I hope all is well…

Take care!
Sue…

Extrinsic Rapture 08-13-2005 05:08 PM

i have a little dilemma. since im home (just graduated) i'm not in direct control over my diet. i have to eat what's home for now since i dont yet have a job. i am making a few dollars on eBay but I digress lol. does anyone have any ideas? i've been eating alot of bagels...although they are whole wheat...i know those gigantic bagels shouldnt be eaten more than like 2x tops a week. i do find it funny (although it hurts naturally) that my mother has the nerve to comment on my size when she knows nothing about nutrition (her idea of a "diet" is eating 2x or most times, once a day).

Rosie

SueMarie301 08-13-2005 10:51 PM

Extrinsic

I have the same problem at times... it takes a lot of habit changing. Get rid of a lot of the stuff you shouldn't eat, and put healthier things around you. I used to pig out on rice cakes. I don't buy them anymore  it's really hard tho, so I know how you feel. My biggest challenge was midnight cravings. UGH!

I found that if I kept myself busy, I usually stopped thinking about snacks. I took up scrapbooking, started building a webpage... I even started walking the malls til I learned there was a rocky mountain chocolate factory in the store. MAN! Their Candy Apples are awesome :yikes: But definately try to pick up a hobby. It might help you from getting those "munchies" oooh also try having like hard candy around. Like Lemon Drops. Sometimes having something in your mouth is a good craving cure.

I hope some of this might help ya... I've been there believe me... I've managed to knock my midnight cravings down too... course I'm going ot bed earlier as well cause of work and school.

Take care!

thinthinker 08-13-2005 10:58 PM

SueMarie: So sorry, I'm blind these days. I saw the 4 oz. and read it as 4 servings. I really can read, I promise. :o

Rosie: Have you tried talking to your mom and letting her know that you are trying to work on your weight? I just did that with my DH and things are going better at home as far as all the snacking he used to do in front of me, making me want to do it too. Perhaps you could ask your mom to stock up on some fruit, that's always good for a snack and then really watch your portions when she fixes a meal.

SueMarie301 08-14-2005 08:20 PM

Thinthinker – no worries… but I’m glad to know someone came up with a close number to mine tho :) Sometimes I wonder if I do this calorie counting correctly or not at times. *big hugz*

Today was an interesting day. I went to lunch with a few friends, and then we went to the bowling alley, sat in the bar and watched the angels game. Then I did some shopping and now I’m home.

I am going to pamper my car tho… she needs a bath. Been sitting in the garage for almost a month now and she’s collected dust.

It’s been a nice day so far…

Hope everyone is having a good weekend…
Sue…

deboraheischen 08-15-2005 02:34 AM

Hi my name is deborah I am 23 years old and ready to change my life around.
starting tomorrow I am going to drastically attemp to change my eating habbits. One of my biggest problems is knowing when to say enough. I swear I could probobly eat a whole pizza at times. Even if I am not hungry. I am ready to change. I am so happy to find a group of friendly people to talk to on the way. I will keep you all posted.

here is my short term weight loss goal.

http://www.3fatchicks.com/weight-tra...lb/1/50/1/.png

jillybean720 08-15-2005 06:48 AM

Welcome, Deborah! I'm 23, too :) It's good that you recognize your problems out front--it's easier to correct them that way! I, too, have had many a time (and still do!) when eating a whole pizza seems like the norm rather than a challenge, like my body just doesn't tell me I'm full even though tI have consumed more than an entire high school fotball team ;) You'll find, though, that after a while of making better food choices (healthier choices and sensible portions) that your stomach will shrink, and you won't be able to eat like that anymore. At least, that's what has happened to me. I used to literally order a large pizza when working alone on a slow night (in retail) and eat the whole thing myself :o Now, however, I feel full after 3 pieces, and satisfied after even less (still need to learn to stop when I am SATISFIED instead of FULL!) simply because my stomch isn't used to getting such huge amounts of food anymore. Make sense? If not, you'll see :dizzy:

Well, I had a horrible weekend food-wise. I got some exercise, but I am sure I ate way more calories than I burned. My sister had a Pampered Chef party Saturday, and then my coworker had a spa product party on sunday. They always have such good food at those home parties, and you bet I tried every bit of it! But today, it's back to the grindstone--at least 40 minutes on the elliptical for today through Thursday, lots of water, and super-strictly on plan! I SO want to get below 280, and I'm so close!!

SueMarie301 08-15-2005 04:46 PM

Deborah – WELCOME!! I too need to learn when to say enough is enough and not just eat because I can. Hard Habit to break!

Jilly - Those are so hard to try not to eat. It always seems like there is a BBQ here or Birthday Party there... and it's so hard to not pick some of this food and some of that food and try it all... another one of my biggest down falls. It's hard! But just remember, you did it once, you can do it again!

Happy Monday everyone!

I did my weigh in this morning and I am up a pound but I am not too freaked out about it. We ate out Saturday night and it was salty so I am pretty sure I am retaining water.

Not much else to report other than Monday is almost over (yeah yeah yeah)!!! Anyone else hate Monday as much as I do?

Welcome to all the new kids on the block!

SueMarie301 08-16-2005 03:00 PM

 to everyone!

It’s been a good day. I cheated a little today. I usually weigh in on Sundays… but I weighed in this morning and I’m down 1lb. Altho I’m not going to mark that down just yet. We all know how things can change through out the week. But it makes me feel good none-the-less. I’ve really slacked off big time with my weight loss plan. Particularly when I first started I was doing good. I’m trying to get that motivation back. I think we may be going to the gym tonight. I have to wait for my father to come by and trade cars with me. He’s driving the truck, and I’m going to need that for Wednesday. I’m taking my uncle to the LA airport and I’m going to need to haul all his eye glasses.

Okie, that sounded weird… why would I need a truck to haul some eye glasses?? Well, my uncle runs a small charity out here for children in Thailand. He collects old eye glasses from those who do not need them because of an upgrade or downgrade in prescription. Last year he collected over 25,000 pairs of eyeglasses and he made the front page of the Sun news paper. Well front page for our Section (which is like Section C or something like that… for the local news). Many of the people in Thailand cannot afford medical insurance and/or are unable to afford to pay for glasses. So by donating all these glasses, he has made it more possible for these people to afford them. We have a family friend out in Thailand who is an optometrist and is willing to help us with these glasses. If I can find the article in the newspaper about it I will try to post a link to it.
