300+ And Ready To Try Again...#689
WELCOME !!!
We are a group of individuals who weigh or have weighed 300+, or near there. This group was formed to provide a place for others like us to find support and hope. We are aware of the distinct problems that come with weighing over 300 lbs. We want to invite everyone to join us in our journey. We share laughter and tears. We share what works for us and what doesn't. We often use a "Topic of the Day" for discussion. Motivational Monday Tuesday Tips Wednesday Wish List .. and What you are doing to obtain it. Thankful Thursday FUN Friday ... don't wait until you lose your weight. Sit-up Saturdays - any physical activity Share your Success Sunday These are not required topics ...just ideas to share. We often find them very helpful. We also share heartaches and fears ... joys and celebrations. We have several extra threads going on simutaneously such as Monthly Challenges, Weekly Weigh-ins, Recipes, Bios, and more. Please feel free to check them all out. We have a bi-weekly 2x2 Challenge. Our goal is to lose 2 lbs in 2 weeks. We have a long term goal of losing 300+ lbs within our 300+ group in 2005. We have found this thread to be more than just a support group... we have found it to become a home. We invite you to join us. WELCOME! I know you'll all agree that we are really thankful for the free services here at 3FC. The sisters offer all of this support and information with no charges to us. There are a couple of ways though that we can help out. If you are thinking about buying anything at Amazon, why not help out 3FC at the same time? You can do this by clicking on the button for Amazon on any page in the forum, or by clicking on the button on the main 3FC page at www.3fatchicks.com . A portion of your purchase price will be given to 3FC by Amazon. It doesn't increase your price at all, but it does help out 3FC. You can use any of the Amazon.com links that you see on the site in order to help contribute to the site. Also, BTW, in case you didn't know it, you can view the message boards "ad free" for a minimal charge. I think it's like $15 for 6 months. A very small investment to be rid of the annoying ads and make your pages load quicker. |
Loki: LOVE the hair!
I also read "Fast Food Nation" (I need to get that back from my from my friend) and was pretty stunned as well. In fact on the Super Size Me DVD there is a bonus interview with the author. Some of the most shocking stuff on the DVD was the bonus footage in fact....specifically what happend to McDonalds french fries after 2 months...just trust me. The one thing they that FFN does say however, is that if you must eat fast food, In-n-Out is the place to go. Their food is actually fresh, they actually make the patties there and peel the potatoes there and make their shakes out of real ice cream...it is not pre-frozen, pre-processed chemical combinatons that masquerade as dinner. It was such a beautiful day today...I wish I had had more time to enjoy it outdoors. We met Jason's friend for lunch and it became a very lengthy lunch, then a trip to the comic book store (grrrr) and then home in time for me to whip up some dinner since we had theatre tickets tonight. 2 of our friends were in a local production of "Chicago" so we went to see them. It was a good show...more or less...the costumes were glorified lingerie.and it was nice to see that not all of the women were rail-thin sticks...some actually had tummies and were dancing around very comfortable in their skins. I did make a very tasty and very filling CORE chili-mac for dinner. I sort of modified it based on what I did and didn't have in the cabinets, but it was good. I am always so shocked at how little one cup of dry pasta appears to be and how much more it looks like when it is cooked. Does it multiply in the water? But I had some extra lean (4% fat) ground beef in the freezer that needed to be used...so away it went. We've been so good at not going out as much as we used to, but going out twice in one day just is not in our budgets...especially not after we pay rent. Even though I am not Catholic, I was also sad to hear of the Pope's passing. he did more to foster positive relations between the world faiths than any other Pope ever has. Hopefully his successor will continue to do the same. Tomorrow night we are invited for dinner to my office manager's house..which is GREAT since she is also doing CORE with me...no worries about what we can and can't eat...yay! Don't forget to Spring Forward...of course, most of you are now asleep and probably already did. |
Well I see Thin made a new thread, heh heh. I admit, I avoided it  I can't help but notice how quiet it's been around here lately...or is it me? Anyways, I just wanted to check in and reaffirm my "diet." I had two off days (for my birthday, so I do not feel really guilty) and now I'm ready to get right back on track. I'm still exercising too so that's good.
My new exercise goal has been bumped up to four days a week...eek!! I wonder if I can manage? I think last week worked out five times. I read somewhere that if you are really serious about losing weight, you really should be working out five days a week, and that the three days a week recommendation is really just the minimum needed. If that's true then I really need to get my butt into gear!! What's everyone's plans for today? I may go see a movie, we'll see. Have a great day everyone! |
Hi everyone...flooding here, so I am not sure how much longer we will have electricity. Have a great day...I will check in when things have settled a bit.

I'm finally home for the day. We had dog shows Thurs - Sun. and to get a decent parking place, near the building I had to be there by 6 AM each day. Today was 8:30 judging. The pointer went 2nd so I packed up and came home. I think he rain may be ending. Good thing too as the ground is more than saturated.
Didn't weigh in yesterday or today. Too much of a rush to get up and out. I'll do it tomorrow for sure. Off to do delayed house work. |
Good Sunday Morning everyone.
Melissa... it always slows down in here and other sites too when Spring has sprung. LOL It is soooo nice to get outside and enjoy the sunshine. I have been busy getting my taxes togeter and I am having a garage sale next weekend so a LOT of work involved in that this week. I can't be on my legs long periods so it takes me twice as long as most people. We both are living an exciting life... I too was in bed and asleep by 9:30 last night ... and that was the old time. LOL Jazzmine.. hope you are not floating away. One advantage of being fat is fat floats so I won't drown. Actually I once did almost drown when I was 22-23 years old. I actually saw that white light you hear about. It was the MOST PEACEFUL experience of my life. Once I quit fighting the drowning.. and realized I had drowned... I started floating to the white light... but then all of a sudden ... I popped back up. I don't share that often because I know many people don't believe in it... but once you have it happen to YOU... you don't really care if others believe you or not... You KNOW the expierence was real. Loki/Julie... your new hair cut is sooo cute. I love the highlites !!! It is a VERY GOOD picture of you. And you can use it as your "before" pic while losing weight. I too love to take drives. Anytime we go out to eat... I always make hubby take me on a drive afterwards. Sometimes we drive to the lake.. sometimes we look at new houses.. sometimes we love looking at old houses. LOL Lotstolose... I saw your picture too. Hope you stop in and post too soon. ;) Catherine... sounds like a nice dream you had. I was to the point I was looking for a wheelchair because it was so hard for me to walk. But I knew once I sat down.. I would never get up again. That is one of my major motivators... the ability to walk and be mobile. I am often tempted to use one of those motorized scooters in Walmart because the store is soooo big ... but I grab my cart and walk away. I am soooo happy for you to be up and mobile again. :) Okay... I am not staying any longer. I have my life to live and I am not living it while sitting here on the computer... so I will peek in again tonight. It is a BEAUTIFUL day here. I don't want to waste it in the house. I may start cleaning my garage so I can set it up for the sale Fri and Sat. |
New to Group
I don't have much time to spend online today, but I thought I'd go ahead and post my intro. I've already posted a bio, weekly weigh-in, pictures, etc.
It looks like there's a great group here and I look forward to getting to know everyone. I have a paper I have to type for school, a lawn I need to finish, and I have to work a few hours today, so this is a short intro. Hello, my name is Andrea, username dreasam! |
Hi everyone!
I am new to your thread and thought I would say HI!
I am a 32 year old graduate student at Florida State University and am graduating on the 28th of this month. I currently run the "Battle of the Bulge" thread but need some extra stimulation. I had recently kind of dropped off the boards and have gained back ALL the weight I lost so I need a lot of support and quite frankly an outlet for my stress right now. I am happy to meet you all and hope to get to know you in the coming weeks. |
I am soooooo MAD!
HI!
You would not believe the time and effort I put into a post just before our house had a HUGE power surge and I lost EVERYTHING!!!! I cannot possibly go back and redo it all, but trust me it was GOOD!!! :D Sooooooo, at this point, please consider everyone that needed comfort, comforted. Everyone that needed encouragement, encouraged. Everyone that deserved CONGRATS, congratulated.....and so on....... Andrea and Crime Girl: welcome to the group. We're glad to have you!!! Gotta go. Too much time spent here already today. Love  ya bunches. |
I'm here, I'm lurking, I'm reading, I'm just not posting. I'll be back Monday. Love to you all. Welcome to the new gals. (I'm still new too!)...and...yay to everything! I'm going out. Bowling went fantastic.

Just a quick WELCOME to Andrea and Crime girl.

Hello Ladies!
I've been poping in and reading posts but not had time to post myself until now. Actually, I should be doing office work I brought home, but had to get my 3fc fix first. Crime Girl and Andrea: Welcome to the group! These are great ladies that offer tons of support. You'll like it here! Loki: Great hair. I'm gettng mine cut and colored and hilighted on Thurs...gotta look good for Elvis after all! Ought to cost me a BUNDLE! But I figure everyone deserves to look fabulous once in a while! Well ladies, Friday we went to our favorite Mexican place again. And got fajitas again. But I feel much less guilty than the last "fajita incident" because we got one plate and split, like last time, and we got the seafood fajitas....shrimp, crab, scallops and some kind of fish, with pepper, onion and tomatoes. Yummy! And soooo much less fattening than the steak and chicken I'm sure. Still, we ate a reasonable amount and I felt okay about it. We had about 20 points to spend. Saturday we had stir-fry so I know I did good that day. I'm feeling pretty good about the weekend, except we haven't exercised a bit. Just too busy trying to get ready for Vegas. Yesterday we took my son and his friends to the arcade for his birthday party. Five little boys, one hour, $70.00! Not including cake and drinks and gift!!! :yikes: He had fun but jeeze! Next birthday party we've GOT to do something cheaper --and quieter! Nothing on earth quite as nerve-wracking as five, ten-year-old boys! Well ladies, gotta get back to work! If I can get the decisions written today I brought home I'll be in pretty good shape next week to get caught up and not be behind when I get back from Vegas. Well, I walked an additional 3 miles this week over last week, ate 1,200 fewer calories, and gained 2 pounds. I didn't break anything in the house though. In years past, I would have given up after just a few weeks of this, but I'm going on 5 months now of 2 up then 2 down, and have no desire to quit. I am trying to find other victories to make up for scale failures. Today, I was able to buy off the rack underwear at walmart for the first time in 15 years. I was convinced taking them out of the package, that they wouldn't fit, but they did. Underwear had been one of my least favorite things to sew over the years, but with 80 inch hips at one time, I had little option. I am hoping that I am just being mature about these setbacks. The alternative is that I am taking some kind of perverse pleasure in failure. For a recovering self-hater, that is always a potential problem. I am going to give myself the benefit of the doubt, and hope that adding swimming to the walking will finally take some pounds off.
Miss-the new exercise reccomendation for ordinary people is 60 minutes activity a day, and for those wanting to lose weight, 90 minutes a day. When it came out, doctor's freaked out because they have a hard enough time getting their patients to do an hour 3 times a week. I'm going to give it a try, just so I can say I have tried everything to break this plateau from ****. I was watching a continuing medical education show on the discovery health channel, and one of the doctor's made a comment that got me to thinking. The diet he put's people on before they have heart or diabetes problems is the same one that he puts them on after. It is of course better if you start before you have damaged your body. It reminded me of this pbs story about Dr. Dean Ornish. He took a group of people who needed heart bypass surgery, but were too sick to survive it, and put them on his diet/exercise/lifestyle change plan. The ones who stuck with it ended up having better results than the people who had been healthy enough to have the bypass surgery. His plan is called the "Open Your Heart" program. 80 percent of people eligible for bypass were able to safely avoid the surgery by following the plan. It has 4 parts, a low-fat, vegetarian, high fiber diet; 30 minutes of moderate exercise a day; stress management such as an hour a day of yoga or tai chi; and group support. I'm not advocating any particular plan, I just like the reaffirmation that it is never too late. Plus, even if I'm not making any head way with those blasted scales, I know I am getting healthier. That is a goal that is easier to focus on. Tomorrow is my first lap swim day, I will let you know how it went. If anyone looks at me sideways for being in the pool area as large as I am, I am going to tell them to kiss my enormous butt. As loose as my suit is back there, it will be easy for me to demonstrate exactly what I mean. Plus, all those years pushing myself in that wheelchair left me with large shoulder and arm muscles. I have always been a strong swimmer. The best way to shut up the "skinnies" is to out-swim them. I've got lungs like Ethel Merman. We shall see. Catherine |
Way to go!
Hi everyone,
I'm new to the group myself, but have been reading a lot of the older posts and think this just might be the place for me, so hello everyone! I just wanted to offer some encouragement for Catherine and say "I know you'll do great." I'm 25 and in HS was a lap swimmer and about a year ago decided to get back into swimming (which I have since already quit and decided to switch to walking). I found that having the muscle mass that is required to move myself around on land is a huge advantage in the water, and I'm sure you will too! Also, I think it's awesome to get over the "Urgh, look at me in a swim suit" attitude and get out there and do it. That in itself is a huge achievement! Plus, I hate the stereotype that all fat people are lazy (which is totally not true) and getting in the pool will show everyone there that that's just not true. Good luck with the laps, and don't be too discouraged if you can't do what you had hoped, I'm sure you'll be able to in less time than you think. Katie |
Hippievanlady – about your dream. What a wonderful dream! Heart warming and very touching! Very inspiring as well.
Crime Girl – WELCOME :) Sorry for not posting more… Saturday James and I spent the day in Oceanside. I love the beaches there. I wish I could go back to Pismo, but it’s such a drive. Oceanside will do heheh. It was such a GORGEOUS day Saturday. Sun was out, it was warm and everything seemed to be blooming. I thought I was suffering from allergies so I took a Claritin. Well, it fixed my problem but when I got up this morning I was sicker than a dog. I took some Dayquil and I seem to be doing a bit better. Im sore tho, got muscle aches. So I wont be doing any exercising this weekend. I wanted to get out and pamper my roses, unfortunately I won’t be doing that. I’ve been forcing myself to drink as much water as I can, so I don’t get dehydrated and make things worse. Well I’m off to lay down. Take care everyone… Sue… |
