How's your progress toward your 2005 goal?

  • Having been off program for a while, I went to the "Make a Commitment for 2005" thread and reviewed the contract I made with myself in January. It's funny, not only have I not been following my plan, I even forgot about the FUN part: that I promised myself a weekly reward if I stayed on plan all week.

Anyway, I've realized that meeting my goal for 2005 is going to be quite a challenge now. To meet my goal weight I'd need to average a pound and a half each week for the rest of the year. Not an unreasonable goal, of course, unless you consider that I've only made like one or two of the 2x2s this year.

So I'll have to get serious and, as 2Cute says, take some real AFFIRMATIVE ACTION.

How's everyone else progressing toward their goal for the year?
  • Great idea Angela!

I was thinking about this myself yesterday.

I had lost 5 pounds this year but have been stalled. I haven't been making my exercise goal for the last couple of weeks or so.

I was doing great until all the family stress started. No excuses are worth it.

I've reread my contract too and recommitting myself to my decision to make progress this year.
  • I'm too new at this to probably count...but it's not a bad idea to see how you're doing...

I said I was going to:

    1. Think positively about weight loss. Doing that!
    2. Plan meals in advance so I don't just order pizza or run to McDonalds. Not too bad there!
    3. Consider the points in every single thing I put in my mouth. Pretty much!
    4. Be patient. Not expect immediate results. Working on that.
    5. Understand that my DH may lose faster than me and not get discouraged by it. Yes...but that doesn't mean I have to like it!
    6. Drink water instead of living on soda. Trying hard!
    7. Work some sort of exercise into my daily routine. Not so hot with this one
    8. Set realistic mini-goals Still working on my first!

I'd like to be down to 250 by the end of the year. I'd need to lose 1.42 lbs per week to make that happen. Since I'm still in the first five weeks my average loss can't be calculated accurately, but I'm still hopeful!

  • I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one.

Terri, you're a model of stick-to-it-iveness.... it'd be so easy to let the family stress take over. What commitment you have!

Lilion, my goal is about the same as yours: I wanted to be to 240 by the end of the year, and I'll have to lose a little less than 1.5/week to do it. It'd be pretty exciting if we actually got there, don't you think? I was in the 260s 5 years ago, when I had my best success at losing as an adult, so meeting this goal would put me lower than I've been in a long time.

Exercise is probably my biggest challenge, too: When I looked back at my 5-yrs-ago journal, I realize the big difference between then and now is that I was doing about 45 min. of pretty vigorous stat biking every day. This time around, I'm still having trouble getting 20 minutes, even combining walking and biking. So I'm going to work on figuring out how to make that work.
  • I've been doing crappy lately with my contract. As you said up there, no excuses are worth it, so I won't make any. I just need to really get off my 'ample ***' (as my best friend says) and get moving.

My goal was to be at 300 by my birthday, which is May 13th. I'm not sure if it's possible with it already being so late but I'm sure going to reach for it. I know this week will be a gain most likely, but with some work I can make next week better and retract whatever damage this week brings. As of now I have 16.5 lbs to lose in a month. Here's to the goal!!!!

  • Go for it, Julie!
  • Julie- I know you can do it!!!

As for me...I am pleasantly suprised so far...I usually drop 10 lbs and then the quarter pounder w/cheese fairy finds me and it's over...but my best friend and I are in this together and we keep each other motivated...ok, we have a contest/agreement going on...I honestly would be happy at about 220 or so but 180 is our goal and if we get there, I will buy him some swanky leather pants and if I get there...he's going to buy me a leather corset (I've always wanted a real corset...dunno why other than they are uber sexy). So, I think that is a good agreement...He's the one taking adipex so right now he is ahead of me...but I have the tortoise and the hare mentality to it all...but back to my point, I am drinking my water, getting off my butt most everyday and sweating and getting some exercise...and I have only overate like 3 or 4 times and for me that is awesome...

For everyone else-keep up the good work!!!
  • I think I'm doing ok.
Hey, I'm new to this board, but I thought I'd go ahead and jump in here. I'm a bit off track for my goal for this year, but not too far, I may be able to make my goal.

My goal is to lose 100 pounds this year, which would mean 2 pounds per week, or 8 pounds per month. We're closing on the third month and I've lost 16 pounds, but I seem to have kicked up my weight loss as 4.2 of those were last week.

I've made myself every incentive and booster I can think of, so I know I'm self-supporting, I'm walking a half mile two times per week, which is more than I've done in a long time. Also, my employer has a pool in her community and wants to start going down there with me, every day that's nice, so we can do water aerobics together. I really am looking forward to that as I love water aerobics!

So all in all, I'd say I'm doing pretty good. Only time will tell.
