I have to come and admit BEFORE tomorrow I have failed miserably at exercise this week. Thank goodness I worked in the yard Saturday AND dug out my pilates tapes - haven't used them but I did dig them out. :D

I just let my emotions go nuts - and have been spending a lot of time on the phone with my sister - the one that had a stroke and surgery. She is doing pretty good right now and sees her surgeon Thursday.

Now I find out my dearest friend for 20 years has breast cancer and it is in Stage 4 already. I just feel stunned.

Lisa, your hubby story got me reminiscing about my high school sweety. Actually this guy is very important because he is the first guy I ever kissed.

I have always remembered him fondly even though we were only an item for a couple months in High School – it seemed like a VERY long time back then.

Anyway, when I moved back here from the Cities I was looking for a job and a friend mentioned that Tom was looking for an assistant. I had to laugh just thinking about working for him but mentioned it to my high school best friend. Her husband, Tom and I ( and her of course ) had double dated a few times back then.

They both laughed and laughed – THEN they told me that Tom and his last assistant had been caught :s: with her bent over her desk, her skirt up and his pants down!!!!! I guess if you have a business that has walk in customers you should be more careful. :o

No future romance with that old :flame:

Welcome Tammy.

Hello again. As I promised... I will reply to everyone who posted since my last post.

CD... do you have a name? or do want to remain anonymous ??
You mention you like to exercise to videos. Have you ever thought of getting walking cd's or tapes and using them. There are several out there. Good ole Richard Simmons has one. You put it in your walkman and start walking. Walk in the park.. around the neighborhood... or wherever. They give you instructions and build up your speed as you go.... and then give you a slowdown just like the videos.

Lisa.. I have been to both the Presleys and Dixie Stampede. I think I have been to the Baldknobbers... but I am not sure. I think they are quite a bit like the Presleys. I get the two confused. :dizzy: I went to whoever was the first show there years and years ago. I think that was the Presleys. :?: Either way... I am sure your dad's act was a hoot.

As far as finally getting with the program ... well ... sometimes you just have to white knuckle it until the desire comes. It's like our kids cleaning their rooms.... they don't have to want to...
they just have to do it. :drill:

Tammy... WELCOME !!!! You will find LOTS of buddies here. :grouphug:
I have always wondered what LA weight loss involved ... do they sell you the food ???
Is Shaklee the one with lots of vitamins and supplements? I had a friend who lost all her weight on it if it is.
I have two daughters I would love to show by GOOD EXAMPLE how to lose their excess weight too.

Skittles... I can't wait to see your photos of your new baby.... RAT !!!!
Congratulations on the water and NO POP. :bravo:

Michelle... have you told us where you are moving ??? I know you did but I can't remember. Does "south" mean south within your city, state, or country ????

Lucky... I am sorry for all the stress you are under. I know all too well that "STUNNED" feeling. Many days I sit and just can't believe that some of our family and friends have cancer and one given no hope at all.
And for your old boyfriend... It always amazes me people do IT at work. :yikes:
I found out a couple of weeks ago... a lot of people do IT in Walmart parking lots too.

okay... unless someone snuck in on me while writing this I have replied to everyone since my last post.
Now for my TUESDAY TIP .....

If you don't want to slip and fall...
stay out of slippery places.

If you don't want to over eat...
Don't go to All you can eat restaurants.
Don't buy 'your' favorite cookies for the kids.
Don't suggest your favorite restaurant when you want to pig out.

LA weightloss does have bars and shakes and such that they sale to you for eating twice a day. Mainly you eat real food from the grocery store. One of my big problems was they wanted me to eat way too much food. You were required to eat a certain amount of food each day and no more. If chicken was the protien I was eating I was to eat 20 ounces a day. You can choose your protien, but for me chicken or tuna were the best options. You could only eat 1 serving of beef at a time and only 2 times a week and never 2 days in a row. I hope this made sense. You could only have potato, rice or pasta 2 or 3 times a week. Only one serving at a time and never 2 days in a row. It could be very confusing and limiting. We did not have the money for me to buy special stuff for me and my family live on pasta and such. We could not afford for all of us to have a ton of protien and only diet bread when the pasta or rice was much cheaper. When we barely have money for food or you have people bringing you meals I do not think you should be picky. My other problem was they got so busy that I had to plan at least an hour to get weighed in. Thier big sales thing is "you do not need an appointment, one on one counseling without the wait" something like that.
I know, maybe that was more than you wanted to know, but now you do. I hope I am not in trouble for telling about it. Please just let me know.
As far as Shaklee, it is vitamins and minerals. They have weightloss items that help with apetite control and craving. I tried them today and they seemed to help. It is nice to know someone else lost on the program. I am going to try real hard. It also uses serving size and number of servings of each food group based on calories.

THANKS
IN HIM
Tammy

2cute2Bfat 09-29-2004 02:46 AM

Well Tammy, it looks like we have something in common...
we are both night owls.

Thanks for the info. It was exactly what I wanted to know.
It sounds pretty much like the original WW of longgg ago.
When I was young you could only eat meat 3 times a week. Liver once a week (wasn't surprised when they dropped that) Your main meals were fish and chicken. In fact I think you had to eat fish 5 times a week so I was always eatting can tuna. I still do to this day. I will fall back to can tuna for lunch often to lose weight. The old program worked... IF YOU WORKED IT. It is still true today. Most programs will work.. IF YOU follow the program. The secret is to find a program that you are comfortable with... and then COMMIT YOURSELF to it.

I came back to tell about my day. I forgot to do it earlier.
I could post it on the "Pat yourself on the back thread" but I know a few don't go there so here I am. ;)

I had a good day again. :cp:
I feel like it was bad because I went to Mazzios and ate salad and pizza toppings.. but that is legal !!! I sure felt like I was cheating. LOL

Not a single piece of crust or dessert pizza touched my lips.
I did not eat all I got either.
Leaving food on my plate is a HARD one for me. :cp:
I even drank water instead of diet pop. :D
When we left... I was NOT stuffed or too full. I was just satisfied.

I also exercised in the pool today too...
even though the water temp was only 76 degrees. Brrr
Actuallly it was only cold for the first 5-10 minutes... once I started working out I warmed up and it was NICE and I didn't want to get out. I am hoping I can still swim Oct 1st. I have never swam outside in Oct here. My metablism has to speed up to warm me up.

katrinabgood 09-29-2004 07:06 AM

Good Morning! Gee, we've got 'em all here, huh? Night owls, early birds, and everyone in between! I've been up since 5:30...seems like this is the only time I can post in peace any more. I have been busy busy busy this week. My sister and I are planning a 50th anniversary party for my parents. We've been checking out different banquet halls and restaurants all week. I think we've found a good one, but there's two more that we're going to see today and then that's IT! Decision time. Next, we'll start on the DJ...It's fun...like planning a wedding! I'd love to hear any suggestions for centerpieces or favors!

So, yeah...I've been AWOL a few days and we all know what THAT means! Fallen off the wagon again. It really does help to make coming here for my daily dose of inspiration a priority!

I read these words this morning and thought I'd share...

There’s only one way you can really fail, and that is if you quit.

When you begin pursuing something you really want, you must make a contract with yourself that you won’t be denied and you'll never quit. You will stubbornly persist until you get what you want, no matter what happens and no matter how long it takes. This attitude will infuse you with energy and motivation that you’d never experience if you began the endeavor with an “I’ll try it and see if it works out” attitude

So, I'll just say that I'm starting again. Better yet, I'm continuing the journey, with a renewed sense of purpose. Eyes on the prize. FOCUS!

Please forgive me for not replying to all...I really want to get outside for a walk before my son wakes up...and hopefully before it starts raining again! It was like monsoon season around here yesterday! Did you get that too, BarbPa??? :rain: :rain: :rain: Good grief...Mean Jeanne indeed! (That's my mother's name, same spelling, too...we always called her that, back in the day!)

Gotta run...er, walk! see you later!

Morning All, No time to post, it took me too long to read,,, off to the health club to exercise

Terri in MO 09-29-2004 09:01 AM

Good morning!

Welcome Tammy! This is a great group for support. However, we tend to offer up tough love when its needed. I look forward to getting to know you.

Lisa - Motivation? About the best I can offer is the little discussion I have with myself periodically. That is....shut up and do what you know you have to do. Journal the food, get of the butt, and get :censored: real about what I'm doing to sabotage myself. Get over it and quit *****in' about lack of success. Then I also focus on how I am able to do more than I could before; that I am making a difference; and how I want to do even more. But its not going to happen if you don't get focused and committed.

Kat - Same to ya! You've done great this summer and you know how to make this a priority.

And the same goes for all of you who are having a hard time. One of the biggest achievements we will be able to claim is not the pounds lost - but the knowledge, the strength, and the control to put our health first no matter what life stress hits up in the face. That is true mastery over the food.

I've got to run. Time for work!

 to everyone!

ljs1223 09-29-2004 09:37 AM

Good morning! :coffee:

First things first Welcome Tammy!

Skittles - congrats on your new addition :D and great job on the water. I love my caffeine free diet pepsi and it's a big step when I can do without it!

Lucky - :o  aren't you glad that you weren't the one to walk in on them?! So sorry to hear about your friend :grouphug: You've really had some tough going lately - we'll keep you in our prayers!

2Cute - thanks for the drill! And love the quote at the bottom of your post! Congrats on the exercise and eating! Swimming in that cold water - brrrrr!!!

kat - There’s only one way you can really fail, and that is if you quit. Definately some words to take to heart! Thanks!

BarbG - 'Mornin!

Terri - I woke up this morning with a renewed sense of what I have to accomplish and what I have to do to get there - baby steps. Those one or two pounds at a time. You're right. I need to focus on what I can do that I couldn't before - like put on a shirt today that used to be too small and it's now on the verge of being too big! That in itself has given me motivation today.

I've got a good start on the day. Had cereal and banana with no calorie sweetener. Haven't started the water yet, but that's next.

I start my new job next Friday! I'm pretty darn excited - and I've only been out of "work" for less than a year. Shouldn't be too hard to get back into the swing of things.

Today is DH's bday - he'll be 35! Now I have to figure out what to make for dinner. He really like the Lemon Herb Chicken ring recipe from Pampered Chef, but it's sooooooooooo unhealthy! I'll have to look into the healthier options for it.

I gotta run - Isaac has turned into Juraasic child (he screeches just like the Velociraptors on Jurassic Park!). Hopefully more later . . .

Love to all!!

2cute2Bfat 09-29-2004 01:14 PM

Well.. I finally got to bed at 7:30am and was still awake at 8:15.
I finally fell asleep shortly after that... but the phone started ringing at 11am so I guess I am up and running again. It is pretty cool here so I am going to wait an hour or two and then jump into that chilly water .
I'll be back to tell you if I stay in it.

cdtobehealthy 09-29-2004 01:57 PM

2cute - CD is something I've gone by often :) other names I think I'll perfer to use when I've become more situated in the group. Its not that I don't trust any of you lovely ladies here, but I've had internet trolls before :(

I have considered walking tapes, and perhaps I'll look into them more :) I guess its just easier knowing that if I work out in a room, I could walk miles - and still be in the same place at the end. When I used to go walking/jogging outside I'd always turn back early because I knew I had all that way to return. Plus, the heat in Florida can be damn unbearable.

Well, we still don't have all of our electricity here. It's really becoming too much to handle. Its so hot, I have to sleep in the living room because it gets more wind from the windows... Its hard to wake up because I'm not sleeping comfortably in my own bed. Its hard to do anything. I have been walking a lot however, and using the stairs for exercise. We finally got groceries last night and I got only healthy food :)

Alright, Now I've got to study for a huge test tonight.. oi :( Hope the rest of you are doing well!

2cute2Bfat 09-29-2004 02:10 PM

CD.. I totally understand. I only go by 2cute myself. LOL
I am VERY protective of my anonymity... probably too protective. LOL
I am grateful that I finally let several oldtimers here know all about me.
I cherish their friendship and their openness to me.
I am looking forward to the day down the road when we are old friends too. ;)

BarbPA 09-29-2004 05:14 PM

Hey Gals!

Wow, did we every get some rain yesterday! Yep, Kat - Mean Jeanne! I ended up staying at work until 7pm cause I knew the traffic would be horrible. Took me about 1.5 hours to get home. A few of the roads I tried to take were flooded. Although, considering it takes 1 hour on a good day I guess I should be thankful. I've talked to friends who spent 4 hours getting home. The dogs were certainly not happy with it.
:rain: :rain: :rain:

Welcome Tammy! :)

Lucky and Lisa - Looks like I am going to be in your area the 14th - 19th. I'll be free on Sat and Sun (16th & 17th). How do your schedules look? Think we can meet up somewhere. I'll be staying in Coon Rapids on Sat night. The rest of the time I'll be in St. Cloud. Hopefully we can find a good place to meet up for a few hours. :D :)

CD - Sorry to hear you are still without power. I guess on the up side you have some and were at least able to get some groceries --- good job on the healthy selections!!! Remind me where you live.

2cute - Brrrr..... Good for you still getting in your water exercise. Just sounds a little chilly to me. Do you have any places near you with indoor pools?

Sorry to rush off without more replies....heading to the gym then working on garage sale stuff. DH is in Boston tonight so it's just me and the dogs!

Talk to you later.
Love ya!
Barb
;)

2cute2Bfat 09-29-2004 06:11 PM

Well.. I just dropped in to share that I did swim today. :cp:
The temp of the water warmed up to 77 today.
I did 30 minutes of water aerobics and then swam laps for 15 minutes.
I wanted to swim laps for 30 minutes too ... but I just wore out. LOL
Lap swimming is more tireing than aerobics.
The water was actually very refreshing. I did not want to get out.. I just did not want to exercise anymore.
Barb... The closest indoor pool is 15 miles. The one I like the best and is cheapest is 23miles. I plan to decided whick I will do probably after I get back from vacation. That is mid Oct. I am going to MICHIGAN to see my daughter and our beloved Thinthinker too. Hmmm Susie... I may have to look her up and drag her back in here.
Thin.... do you talk to her often ?? I know you have lunch now and then together.

My food is great too. Gee... THIS FEELS GOOD !!!!!! :cb:

Okay... gotta run.
Love ya !!!!
