Oh Lucky... that is toooooo funny !!
Keeping your clothes dry was quite an accomplishment. :bravo:

My morning has been boring compared to that.

thinthinker 08-22-2004 11:39 AM

Hola, ladies. Como esta???? Just got back from taking mom to church. Why can't they make Mass later in the day??? :o Not to mention she had to get there 40 minutes early to light a candle and say a rosary. I'm sure she couldn't have done that at home. Well, not the candle, but the rosary! Boy, that sounds pretty sacriligous, doesn't it. Sorry.

Honey and I went out to that Euchre nigt last night. We had a great time. There are 16 players in the club. At the end, we got the impression that they had kicked a couple out. We thought we were probably just subbing. AND we probably were. It just sounded weird when at the end they were talking about "what are we going to do about Mary and Jim?" So we'll see. It would be nice to get together once a month. But 4 card tables full and you rotate houses. YIKES! I have a decent house, but I'm not sure where I would put 4 card tables. Anyway, that's probably putting the cart before the horse. We'll see what happens. It was enough to have a good time.

Terri: Hope you're in the middle of a wonderful visit with relatives. Sunday was the day with DH's family, I think. Did mom get there yesterday ok? Hope the weather held out and you got to the boat. It's been pretty cool here, but this girl can deal with that. Heat and I are NOT the best of friends. I get pretty B!^@Hy in the heat and since it's PMS week on top of it....wooooo watch out world!

Mary: Glad you guys had a safe trip. I'm sorry you and hubby were arguing most of the time. That does not make for much fun. *That outlet mall is awsome, isn't it??? Lots of good stuff there.

2cute: I can relate to "I thought I should have reached that goal already." What a built in sabbatour we all have within ourselves. It's time to beat :rollpin: THAT little voice in our heads down and fill our heads with sunny :sunny: positive thoughts that help us attain our goals. * That's amazing that you have so many hummingbirds calling your yard home. They are too cool. My dad used to have feeders at his house up north, but he only got a couple of birds to them.

Judy: I'm glad you had such a nice birthday. Congrats on avoiding cake. That's POWERFUL!!! * I haven't seen those particular commercials either. Hmmmm. Must be a local thing. Too bad, those are good messages.

Lisa: I'm glad your trip was good. I'm sorry for the circumstances, but it seems that you had a nice drive and were able to do some fun things too. *I haven't been to Pike's Peak since I was about 10. I'm sure that area has all changed since then. There used to be a Christmas village kinda place and the base of the mountain. I wonder if it's still there. * I envy you going to the Current outlet store. OMG, I would go crazy there!!!

Katrina: WOW, that package took a long time! So much for PRIORITY mail! Gave new meaning to "snail mail". Anyway, now we can BOTH do Oxycise with Barbg. * What a bunch of crap that coach pulled with your son! I would be furious! I just get so steamed when people mess with kids. It's one thing to disappoint and adult, they understand stuff happens, but kids....you should just be more considerate. Ok, off my soapbox :soap:......for now! :o

Barbg: You hear that???? Now you have NO excuse to get back on the Oxycise bandwagon. Kat and I will be at your door hunting you down if we're working it and you aren't!!!!! :drill:

Andria: Glad you're back from your trip and that you had a nice time. It's always good to get away. Hmmmm, I should heed those words of wisdom and get away myself......

Skittles: I'm glad you'll be recouperated enough to get back to your exercise routine this week. Just don't overdo.

BarbPA: How nice that you and DH take turns letting each other sleep in! *I'm glad you're enjoying the game your hubby roped you into playing. Sounds like you're having fun.

Lucky: OMG! That's amazing! I hope you walked far enough into the field that you were hidden. The guy was probably waving to let you know, he knew, what you had been up to. After all, why else would you be walking in a corn field????

Well, my dears, that is all the news that fit to print. I'm off to breakfast with friends. Then back here to work on some more eBay stuff. See you all later.

Love  ya bunches.

qsilver 08-22-2004 12:10 PM

Hey everyone :)

Lucky, I'm guessing you aren't going to be developing a fringe market in corn stalk toilet paper? ;) I've been there with the long walks and no potty in sight. I asked my sis who used to do tons of hiking, and she told me to find a big rock or bush... yeah, thanks for the help there, sis. The weirdest thing did help, though. I started carrying my water bottle and sipping along the way. For some reason, I could make it home without walking the last mile with my legs crossed when I was drinking the whole time. :dizzy:

Barb, you sound like you are in such a great place! Good for you :)

Kat, I'm glad that other father called and complained. I honestly don't get why people feel they have to be so competitive in a children's sport. The kids are out there to have fun, burn off some extra energy, and hopefully learn a few things about sportsmanship and being a team player. Most often it is an adult who ruins things for them all.

Skittles, you do have a busy week ahead of you! Make sure to move into it all slowly so you don't hurt yourself. Let your body be your guide. Yes, this is coming from a voice of experience. I always push it too hard and too fast and end up back down and healing again.

Judy, those ads do sound cool!

2cute, that is an awful lot of hummingbirds! We get quite a few around here as well. I have all sorts of hollyhocks growing wild around the yard, and I keep them because they are such a hummingbird draw. They tell us here to stop filling the bird feeders around the end of August so the birds will migrate. Otherwise they say they stay too long and risk freezing in the first cold snap. Do they give the same advice there? Also, wanted to thank you for posting your positive attitude and determination. :)

Lisa, glad to hear you are safe back home. We lived in Colorado Springs for a year, and I was so fond of it there. Our favorite place to visit was the zoo, especially over the winter season. They have Christmas lights and warming stations set up all over the place so you can enjoy the animals pretty much year round.

I'm really tired, but I can't seem to get myself relaxed enough to sleep as of yet. Too wound up about personal garbage going on, I suppose. There is enough of it that it is beginning to get in the way of my resolve. I can't lose that focus now! Continuing to move forward with my weight loss is keeping me sane at the moment. That and thinking about unloading a shotgun of rock salt into a particular someone's groin... Ok, maybe I could be nice and give him a running start so it would only be his backside.

I'm going to get some rest and then get up and go for a nice, long walk. The weather here has been spectacular. The temps are way too low for August, but I'm not complaining! The other thing I need to do is get some peaches cut up and put in the freezer. One of my co-workers brought over a box of the biggest, most juicy peaches you have ever seen! I've been eating 2-3 a day for the last 3 days, but there are just way too many left, and I don't want them to spoil. If I get them cut up and in the freezer, at least I can deal with them properly at a later date.

Going to go snooze now. Have a great Sunday!

Oh, actually, just thought about something that has been going through my mind all night and I wanted to share. Have any of you heard the phrase, "Half measures availed me nothing." I have heard it before, but it kind of exploded in my brain the other day when some best laid plans went kaboom. That phrase is such a metaphor for my life right now. I've been trying to do things by half and then wondering why they never worked out. I've eaten right and not exercised, or I've exercised and not eaten properly. I've begun projects and not followed them through to completion. I tried the easy way out again and again, and it left me empty-handed. Half measures availed me nothing. I need to live my life with a full effort. I need to give my all to everything I attempt. I've made due for so long, and where has it left me? I'm leaving a marriage of 14 years to a man I fell for over 22 years ago. I have two children, too many bills, a dirty house, and an unfinished college degree to show for myself. Oh yeah, and I'm morbidly obese and have been for the last 13.5 years. I cannot live my life by half. I will live it fully because there is no longer a choice. The pain has become too intense to bear otherwise, and I refuse to go back now. God, I hope you are listening to me right now, because I sure need your hand in this.

Love you all,

Andria

Questions Questions Questions

Hello all,

:chef: just went fishing so I am typing a few lines before I go read Dr. P. I have been looking over this 6 week makeover diet I am going to start, and I am wondering if it may be too harsh a thing to start with. I was studying portion size. And I realize that I probably eat 10 times as much of the meat as I should have 3 times as much of the carbs and 98% less of the veggies I should. Anyway, if I do this 6 week makeover, I leave out a whole food group, which is dairy. At my age, (mid 30's) is it a good idea to leave out such an important food group? Do you think I would still have success practicing portion control and not eating the bad items? Or should I go for this drastic change and pray for the best? I am really concerned about this since my health is crappy right now I don't want to do something that may be bad for me. My primary care physician gave me a diet to try which contains all the food groups, just portion controlled and eating more of the good and less of the bad. I am figuring that I should listen to my doctor's advice and use his diet, but I am just at a crossroads. With so much information out there I am not sure which road to follow. Your opinions would be gratefully appreciated.

Lucky, do what the astronauts do, wear Depends. :D And take a really good shower when you get home.

I will take it easy this week, right now I am tired and sore. I went fishing this morning. When we came home we cleaned up the craft room and I made dinner. I am pooped. So I will be taking it easy this week. I have one more bottle of water to drink today, and I will have my three bottles for the day. :)
Tomorrow morning it is up to ride the bike for atleast 15 minutes.
Off to read Dr. P. now. Everyone have a wonderful evening.

Terri in MO 08-22-2004 08:16 PM

Good evening ladies!

We're done with all the family weekend. Actually, it turned out to be a good weekend.

Mom was a little late on Saturday so we got a slow start. We first went to the horses. She helped DH take care of Ginger's foot while I cleaned stalls. On a good note, the stall cleaning work does not hurt my back like it did at first. Then we hooked up the little trailer and went off on an adventure to buy hay. I had to tell her several times to put the hay down. Because she thinks she is stronger than I because I work in an office. Well mom how about I'm 44 and you're 73? She's like a bull in a china closet. We ended up going to see her sister afterwards instead of going on the boat. Her sister had moved to a new house recently so we made an impromptu trip which turned out great because mom never would have driven there herself. She left about 10 am today. I was a good daughter and made waffles and bacon for breakfast. Now before anyone chastises me for waffles and bacon, I made small waffles and no seconds! :p

We just got back from the road trip to see the son and DIL. DH went to pick up his mom while I stayed here. I worked on bills and put my tenny shoes on to do 15 minutes of Leslie Sansone Basic Stepping video. I would have done more but I didn't have enough time before DH was back to pick me up. Plus it was a good workout and worked up a sweat! We had a good visit with the son and DIL. I love that kid. He's 36 so guess he's not much of a kid. I look at him and see DH all over him. The red hair, the pug nose, dimples, his chicken legs, his toes, mannerisms. Its seeing DH like I never got to see him because I met DH when he was 50.

Sorry, that got long-winded about my weekend!

I will walk the dog tonight! And I will get up and exercise in the morning when DH gets up at 5:30.

Thin - You go with the :drill: about exercise! I'd love to be part of a card group but I can't deal with smokers and the ones I know are heavy smokers. That would be kind of bad to invite you as subs but not offer to have you join as replacements!

Lucky - Get any chigger bites from the detour to the cornfield? I have taken advantage of stalls many times out at the horse barn. I'll probably get caught one of these days. Too funny about the guy waving! :lol3:

Andria - Not much I can say other than offer a big prayer and a :grouphug:

I've got to go feed the dog and get a cake in the oven for work tomorrow. Crap, I forgot we're doing an appreciation pizza lunch tomorrow for all the staff. I'll have to develop a strategy so as not to :ink: out at lunch tomorrow.

Hello and {{{{HUGS}}}} to all!

Terri in MO 08-22-2004 08:22 PM

Skit,

This is my opinion. Any diet that leaves out food groups for any length of time is not healthy. You need dairy. Plus, it sounds very restrictive which may be hard to stick with and feel successful. I would suggest you go with your doctor's plan and concentrate on fixing small things at a time. Find your worst areas and make progress cleaning that up. Just don't overwhelm yourself with changes. This needs to be something you feel good about doing so that its a lifetime change.

Good luck!

Syn 08-22-2004 09:15 PM

Hello Ladies!

I know I have been out of touch for awhile and I am sorry....I do think of you often. Not much happens of interest in my life and I am still fighting the battle of the buldging butt and waist and tummy etc....I am still under the 300# mark but just barely...

I don't have any excuse for not checking in or writing more often...so I won't try to make something up...I do care and I do want to participate more but am such a doggone procrastinator...and I haven't been keeping up to the threads so feel that I am amiss about that as well...

Anyway know I am still around and think of you all with affection....and am glad to see some new faces in here too...welcome!!

Until next time:

LuckyLadyBug 08-22-2004 09:25 PM

Skit: NO chiggers in Minnesota - too cold, I think.

ageoldie 08-22-2004 09:50 PM

Okay, going to the bedroom to dust off the Oxycise tape. Today will be night #1.

2cute, I lied, I went to Edmond, not Moore, but to me they are both OKC. the graduation ceremony was very nice, but it did make for a long trip.

I think I've decided to give up the wellness clinic for a while. I loved the massage chair, but all in all, it really didn't do anything for my weight loss effort.

Thin, Did I tell you that they have 2 of those Pilates machines at the health club I go to? They are in a locked room and I've never seen anyone on them,so I asked about them Friday and was told that there are a few instructors who are trained to use them and that they have to be in the room with you and "instruct" you on the use of them, so I'm going to talk to one of them to see if I can work out on them sometime. I'll let you know.

Well that's all I have to say tonight, have a great week everyone

thinthinker 08-23-2004 12:19 AM

Howdy! I should be headed to bed  but alas I am here visiting once again. :s:

Skit: Ditto what Terri said. If your Dr. has given you a plan to follow you should probably start out there. I'm sure that the most important thing is that you have A PLAN! Most of the girls find that even changing just one little bitty thing starts them on the road to making stuff happen. Perhaps it's getting in all of 6-8 glasses of water. I know I've been slacking BIG time on that one. Also getting those 5 servings of fruits and veggies. I'm guilty of letting that one slide too. Both of those seem like they would be such little changes, but they will really get you going if you haven't been doing them for awhile. I'm listening to my own advice here. :o

Michelle: Good to see you. It sounds like this whole NC move is a GO. Did you find out about hubby's transfer? Are they letting him move? Keep us posted, will ya?

Syn: Good to see you too. I thought maybe you decided after meeting us you'd rather not have anything to do with us.

Barbg: Did you get that tape dusted off? Now you're in for some real Sarg :drill: kind of stuff. I'll keep you honest, if you do the same for me. * I hope you get a chance to play on the machine. It is very hard, but it doesn't hurt my back and that's what I was really concerned about. I can't do much with the arm pulleys. I think I may get out my hand weights and bands and try and build some strength in the arms so that I can do a whole routine instead of just a couple of random exercises.

Andria: Love and hugs, honey. Try and keep your head together. It's not about food. Turn your frustrations out somewhere else. Good job for walking instead of eatting.

Terri: Glad you had such a great weekend. It's nice that your getting a chance to know DH's son, especially when he's a spittin' image of his dad. *I'm not even sure if anyone in the card group smoked. If so, they did it outside. It was nice to play in a smoke-free environment. And as far as replacements, I'm not entirely sure what's going on. It sounded like one of the women said they would never play with this woman again that was absent last night. Unfortuneatly she has made it hard on the rest of the group because apparently this was Chris' issue with the woman and not everyone elses. But it also sounded like the couple we were subbing for choses not to show up at the last minute or maybe never takes their turn. Sooooo, the group was supposed to decide what they were going to do about this other couple. I'm staying out of it until/if we're invited to play again......safer that way! ;)

Lucky: I don't think we have chiggers here either. Ticks, yes, chiggers, I don't think so.

I think I'm caught up again but I'm dying here. My eyes won't stay open and I'm working all day tomorrow. Early start, late coming home. Gotta sleep. Love  ya bunches.

2cute2Bfat 08-23-2004 12:45 AM

Good evening ladies. I am not doing replys tonight but wanted to check in.
Glad to see you peeking in Syn. GET YOUR BUTT IN HERE MORE !!!!

I had a fairly productive day. My DH had a REAL productive day so that is nice for me. About 4pm my daughter and her husband came over and we swam and had a nice visit. She filled me in on my other daughters apartment and such. We ordered pizza... and I am happy to report I stopped and bought me a small salad and only ate the toppings. I was sure to make one of the pizzas a veggie one. :D

Then tonight I watch the olympics. I don't know how you guys on the eastern time zone can stay up to watch tv. Since my daughter is an hour ahead of me now I have become aware how you have to stay up an extra hour.

I exercised TWICE today. :strong: I did not get my water in though. :(
Tomorrow I will work on that more.

Skittles... I have no room to suggest anything to anyone about food... BUT... I aways recommend a balance diet. I don't always practice it... but I am SURE it is the best route.

Did you guys hear that WW is startring a new program AGAIN. LOL
I think WW is GREAT ... but they are always changeing so they can offer you something NEW. The truth is.... we all know what works... it is working it that is the success factor.

Okay... I am going. Good night sweet ladies.

Terri in MO 08-23-2004 08:04 AM

Good morning!

I'm running late. I still have to slap icing on the cake for the lunch today. I had a dream that all of a sudden I realized that it 11:45 am and that I had forgotten to order the pizza and then I was running through the department in my robe.

Hopefully everyone made it through the weekend without doing too much damage. We still have a little more than a week to achieve our goal of 2 pounds. Let's all set out goal of making smart choices this week, drinking lots of water, and getting up and moving. We can do this!

Make today a great day.

P.S. Two of the female gymnists are from our area. Tehren, who won a silver last night, is from our town. How cool is that! Would be even better if I actually knew her!

ageoldie 08-23-2004 08:38 AM

I did it!!!

One day in a row!!!

Oxycise Level 1 done and I already feel better!! Thin, Kat, did you get yours in?

Terry: Carly Patterson is from Allen, which is a suburb of Dallas. My niece is the same age and works out at a gym very close to the one she works out at. They go to all the same meets and have known each other for years. (Lara did not try out for the Olympics)

Well it's time to head for the health club, I'll check in later tonight.

2cute2Bfat 08-23-2004 11:32 AM

WAY TO GO BARBg !!! I am proud of you. :cp:

Good morning Terri. I DID have a good on program weekend and I WILL have a good Monday too. :D
In fact.. I am getting off my duff and going to go swim ... RIGHT NOW !!!
