SandyI am sorry to read about your hubby's gpa. :( I think you are very wise to give Fern his space at this time. It has to be a very difficult time for him, losing his namesake. But thank goodness the kids all agree on letting gpa do what he wants to do. My prayers are definitely with youand your family.
On a brighter note, have a great time shopping with your friend and you can manage just fine with your points! :)

I went to WI with a 1 pound gain today. :( but was expecting it after my trip to the ER and changes in meds and goofing off at my bday.
THEN I went to the Dr, he called yesterday and had to see me about my lab results :o NOT GOOD! but I was expecting that too. I am now 'technically' type 2 diabetic. Attempting now to control it with diet and exercise. When I told him I had gone back to WW, he said "GREAT! that will do just fine."
Well, I'm off to clean out my kitchen! getting rid of some no-no's :tape:
I truly have the message now, [B]"this is a life threatening situation".[B]

chequitagirl 01-23-2004 02:37 PM

joyce that is exactly what put me on my weightloss journey. a diagnosis like that is something of a wake up call. if i can get my undercontroll then i know you can too. you are in my prayers.

Well, here I am. I think I've gotten myself back on track. No, scratch that...I AM back on track! Dh and I started the South Beach Diet together, today is our first day. He's a fierce competitor, and will waste no opportunity to show me up! Heh heh, little does he know that's EXACTLY what I need!! He went to the gym this morning on his way home from work...SO, when it was time to pick the dog up from the groomer this afternoon, I opted for a walk. It's probably about a mile and a half, one way, but I will clock it to make sure when I get in the car later. I think extra calories are definitely burned just by walking in the wind! It is COLD and windy out there. About half way there, I thought, "Bad idea, I'm tired already." But I walked on. Now that it's over, I'm home, warm, showered and sipping my coffee, I feel wonderful, knowing that I've walked 3 miles today!

I do plan on going to the gym later, so that was a bonus for me. I would really like to get into a habit of the daily walk. I will post my goals at the challenge thread.

Now, I have to figure out what to make for dinner tonight. I stocked up yesterday on all kinds of veggies. Hmmm...maybe a pot of WW zero point soup to have on hand is a good idea. Dh is working nights til Sunday, so I have to get cracking on dinner prep. When I'm done here, I'm going to make a big salad to keep in the fridge. I think we'll have salmon fillets for dinner, gotta dig out ol' George Forman! Maybe with some steamed broccoli and cauliflower and salad. Sounds like a plan~

All right, I have to get moving...I hope to be back tonight to report on a successful Phase 1.Day 1!

Love to all...

katrinabgood 01-23-2004 02:53 PM

I almost forgot...I wanted to tell Sandy I'm sorry about your hubby's grandfather...but so happy that the family is honoring his wishes. Working in a hospital, you see it all the time...families fighting over a dying family member. Very sad. A great reason to have a living will. How sweet that he will marry his woman so that she will be provided for! He's very fortunate that he is in a position to still be able to make decisions, and has a loving family that will carry them out. I wish you and your family peace during this difficult time.

gmalil 01-23-2004 02:57 PM

[B]Thanks Audrey!

Stepping Out 01-23-2004 04:28 PM

Present!

Sandy: I'm sorry to hear about your DH's Grandfather. I hope that seeing his Grandad at peace will be a comfort to him.

Joyce: First, belated Happy Birthday to you! :D I'm glad your Dr. tested you thoroughly and found your problem. It is serious, but getting back on WW will make all the difference.

I saw my Dr. (Dr. H, for HOTTIE! ) yesterday. I'd been having a lot of pain, especially at night. I described what was going on, and he explained what was causing the pain. He's changed one of my meds, and it should help. At least, I hope it helps. Next step would be to have a Botox injection in my butt :o ! I think just knowing what the problem is helps. Not only is he HANDSOME, he's SMARTtoo!

2Cute: :drill: Step Away From the Cake!

I'm "cut and paste challenged" so I need help getting my name on the list :^:

Have a great evening!

I feel less toothache pain now, once I started helping my son with his school project :comp: and got back to exercising. :tread:
I guess I just need to keep my thoughts on other important things.

Hi Ladies -
I hope you are all having a great Friday! I had a great day today --- no, not a great exercise day and not a great food day, but a great - feel good day!
May I share? ....At work I am a part of a group of Marketing Communicators - our company is about 1,700 people and there are 100+ that are involved in Marketing - anyway, each year they give out a few Excellence Awards. Guess who got one this year? Yep, that would be me! :D My award was for Excellence in Vendor Management! It sure is nice to get recognized for hard work and feel appreciated!

Then, after work I had every intention of spending an hour at the gym....well, on the way home DH called me and told me to meet him at a Mexican place near our house - a group of 5 of us got together for drinks and dinner! It was so much fun - one of those nights when you laugh till your belly aches and tears run down your face! Then 2 of our friends came back home with us and we just hung out for a couple hours. They just left and we are getting ready to turn in for the night. I have every intention of sleeping late tomorrow and having a restful weekend.

So, I am a little upset with myself over the eating and lack of exercise, but thrilled about my award at work and a great evening with friends! That's my story for the day....

Wishing you all a wonderful night! Talk to you tomorrow!
Sweet Dreams!
Barb

Okay... I see I miscounted in the beginning. Actually I did not miss count.. I listed Audrey twice. Ooppss :o
So we had a beginning count of 26 and we have 20 checked in.
That leaves 6 MIAs. :mag:

Susie... I know you are around. Come add yourself to our list.
Jen... We haven't heard from you in some time. Let us know how you are.
Pam.. I am really worried about you. I have PMed and emailed you. Please check in and let us know you are okay.
Judy... Come out, come out and please check in.
ANDRIA !!! You have been a regular for too long to leave now. I NEED YOU.
Jeanine... We haven't heard from you in long time. What's up girl?

WE MISS EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU !!!

If anyone else had problems with all of the Joe anns ... here is a summary..

Joe Anne = Joanne
Homebound = Joanne too
J-ann = Judy

If this is wrong... please educate me. LOL
Okay... I had a good day today. I did not eat any cake. :cp:
I did have to taste some special kind of frosting they use on cakes to make it shiney and stiff. It does NOT taste good. We vetoed the use of it on our cakes. We still did not pick the final one. We went there with a picture of the cake we wanted... but then they had soooo many more options that we looked at pictures for over an hour and left with 3 MORE different cakes in mind. I WANT A FINAL DECISION MADE. This wedding stuff wears me out. :faint: LOL We do seem to make decisions of what we don't want... and that is important too... but we need more DO WANT decisions.
Tomorrow we are checking out photographers. :dz:

Okay... got more to do here on the internet so I better get out of here.
Hopefully more REAL posts will be made this weekend. :crossed:

thinthinker 01-24-2004 12:26 AM

Hi all! I decided to get my butt out and work a little bit today. Decided being a "showgirl" would be a good idea. No BIG projects for this weekend, just a trailer check and seat counts. I did decide to stay and see Win a Date with Tad Hamilton. I love the guy, gee I wish I could remember his first name, but his last is Duhamel. Anyhow, he played Leo on All My Children for three years and now he plays on Vegas. A real cutie! It was a cute movie. Funny little love story, you know the type.

I came out of the theatre and it was snowing again. I don't know what the Almanac says, but I'm thinking we're going to have a snowy winter this year. Geez, this is 3 times in 10 days that we've had enough to plow. And of course, the "baby" has decided that this would be a great night to go up to the Fraternity house for a party. What is he thinking?!?!? He called a bit ago and said he was almost there. Said there were a whole bunch of spin-outs on the way, but none of the cars had all wheel drive like his does, and he's "cool". That's my kid!!!

I have been doing better and better with my food issues. I made some barbeque shredded chicken sandwiches tonight for dinner with Ore-ida Steak Fries in the oven. YUM! :T I am still avoiding Tim Horton's although today it was very hard to talk myself out of it. Instead I went to Dunkin' Donuts and got a Coffee Colada, and then I fell and bumped my head and asked if they had any good baked goods, like apple fritters. Boy, am I sorry I did that. Their apple fritters are at least twice as big as Tim Horton's and 300% better. So here's the deal.......DON'T GO TO DUNKIN' DONUTS!!!!

I took yesterday off and all I was supposed to do was a few errands. I talked to my hairdresser about a hair cut and she said she was there from 9:00-3:00. I told her I'd come to see her when I was through with my errands. I didn't walk out of the house until 1:30 so I had to rush up there before I did anything else. :( I have decided that the computer is EVIL!!! Except for the fact that it holds all of you, it does not let me accomplish anything. If I stay home to get something done, I'm on the dang computer. I go from one thing to the next, and then I'll get somebody to pop-up on IMs, and then I'll check the site, and then somebody else will IM, then I check the site and swear at the screen because I don't understand why no one else is here all day to post time and again. YIKES! I really need to get a handle on this. I can't afford to waste days at a time in front of this screen. I love  you guys, but geez, I've gotta get a life.

Joyce: Ok, honey, "window opening" lesson....If you're using Internet Explorer, use Ctrl + N and you will get a new window. Do this when you first get to the thread you're reading and replying to and once you get the second window open, then hit "reply to thread" on one of them. That way you'll get the reply window on one, and the thread on the other. You will also get two little bars at the bottom of your screen that will say "3FC Healthy Weight...". In order to get from the thread to the reply, you just click on either of those little bars at the bottom. Hope this helps. * The chicken tortilla soup recipe looks great. That will be next on my list to try. Thanks for sharing. * Sorry about the diabetes, me too. You're not alone.

2cute: Smart daughter telling you to just lay on the bed. Hope you got some zzzz's finally. * Good job beating off the EVIL cake demons??? You should be skinny just from all the running around.

Sandy: Sorry to hear about Evan's arm. Hope he's feeling better today. Also too bad about Fern's grandfather. My prayers are with you all. I'm glad that the family decided to let him do things his way. That will mean alot less guilt for them and anguish for him in the long run. [[[hugs]]]

Mary: I bet that baby is getting big by now. How old is he??? * What did you find on sale for 60% off. That's a great sale, I like those!!!

Audrey: I just looked at your stats. 22 pounds since November is GREAT! You're really workin' it, girlfriend. Keep it up.

Duckie: How come you're "here reading" and not here posting???? Come on, you can give us a few words. :)

JoeAnne: Hope Riley's project is coming along. He's such a cutie!

Barb: I think I've solved your baby troubles. I hate to tell you this, and I thought you might already know, but you and your husband have to be in the same room in order for you to get pregnant. None of this working late crap, or working in NYC. You've got to be just a little closer. ;)

Steph: Good to see you, honey. What's up at your end? Haven't heard from you in awhile.

Pat/Paperdoll: -18 degrees? YIKES! Bundle up and keep warm.

Michelle: Just a roll call doesn't give me much material to work with. :o

Katrina: 3 MILES!!! My gosh, in this cold wind. Your are my HERO!!!! :D Thanks for the recipes. The stroganoff sounds particularly good. :T

Joanne/Homebound: I see Tina added you to the list, but here's the lesson in copy/paste. Take your mouse cursor and put it to the left of whatever you want to copy. Use the left button on the mouse and click. You have to hold the button down while you drag the mouse over the text that you want to copy (you'll know you're doing it because the letters will be covered in blue). When you've got everything you want to copy covered with blue, let your finger up off the mouse button. Then hit the Ctrl + C. That saves what you have copied into your computer (temporarily). Now go to where you want to paste what you just copied. Put your mouse cursor in the right place and hit Ctrl + V. Magically it will be pasted there. Hope this helps.

Barbg: Did you ever get my e-mail with the info in it??? Just wondering. Like maybe you deleted it because you didn't recognize who it was from??

Lucky: Sorry, can't do much replying to "here". Please write more. Give me some material to work with.

Syn: Ditto what I said to Lucky. :spin:

Terri: Ditto what I said to Lucky.

Tina: Ditto what I said to Lucky. ;)

Amanda: Ditto what I said to Lucky. :p

Well, girls, I think I'm outta here for another night. Hope you all have a good one. See you all tomorrow. Oh wait.....it IS tomorrow!!! I must be getting slap happy.

Yes here I am again. I am such a super flake about posting. :^: Food still hasn't been great, but it's better. I've managed to lose the 4 pounds I gained, so I'm back to 162. I really need to get down to 155. At that point I will have lost over 100 pounds and can start hitting the doctor up for that tummy tuck.
Since I've heard about the Girl Scouts being out selling their demon cookies  I have avoided going to the commissary and the PX where they hang out. I have such a weakness for those thing. I'm goiing to have to go shopping sometime, but I'm putting it off for now.
Exercise is still not happening here. I do so hate it. I keep trying to convince myself that living on the fourth floor and walking the kids to and from school everyday IS exercise, but I know I need to do a good 30 minutes of cardio each day. Oh how I HATE to get sweaty!! :stress:
Anyhoo, that's about it for now. The kids are on a 4 DAY WEEKEND from school :dizzy: so I need to think of something to entertain them today. Perhaps we'll go ice skating in Frankfurt. That would be exercise wouldn't it?? :?:
Talk at ya later,
Jen

Terri in MO 01-24-2004 09:17 AM

Hi ladies!

At Thin's request, I'll say something more than "here"!

I went to WI this morning and it was good! I'm down 2.6 for a grand total of 23.4. I was thrilled. DH is stuck maintaining so his enthusiasm is starting wane. We need to make some adjustment to keep him from quitting again. He always makes these big pronoucements about how he's going to get really committed on some date and then won't really help in paying attention to his food and also cheating. He's a big talker. Which aggravates me because when he cheats, its hard not for me to follow in his footsteaps - which I know is MY fault. But I prefer to blame him. :D

Tonight is our work holiday party. There is over 800 people signed up. Should be fun and I know food won't be great today. I'll work in exercise to offset as best I can (or want).

I think we're going to the Y today to check out the facilities. DH's cardiologist said he really needs to lose some weight (35 would be great) and get into exercise to keep his heart strong. He recommended swimming. Of course, DH wants to turn the back yard into a pool, and so would I, but get real. We can't have an above ground pool and we can't afford an in-ground pool. Plus, can you imagine the black dog hair as the dog loves water? :fr:

Okay, I am out of here for now. DH is making breakfast and then we're off to run errands.

I did get a new recipe that I will try first. Its a WW recipe - Chocolate Meringue Cookies. 7 cookies for 1 point. Sounds vaguely familiar - anyone post this already?

Toodles!
