Things people say.....
There is probably a thread about this.. I looked but couldn't really find one..
I was getting ready to go in a car with my aunt, mom and 2 cousins.. My aunt said, without realizing it, "The skinny people need to sit in the back." Yeah... I know she didn't mean it but still it hurt.. What are some of the things people have said to you without realizing it. Or they do realize it and say it anyway? I'm just carious.. I think that talking about it will help me feel better.. lol |
I went to a birthday party yesterday and someone said "oh wow you look great, you've lost a ton of weight". Okay, that was fine. but then, she continued by saying "you can tell you lost a lot of weight because your cheeks used to be Fat and big on your face". I don't think she meant it to be mean. She thought she was paying me a huge compliment, but it still hurt. oh well, some people are just oblivious to their own rudeness.

and my family always says "small" people in the back of the van instead of skinny, but that's what they mean.

I got "moo'ed" at one time walking down a street to go to a party. Thought I looked good that night too.

There have been many threads on this topic. It seems people just can't resist making comments on our weight. Sometimes they are very cruel comments I try to give them the benefit of the doubt that they mean well but are just clumsy with a compliment.

Ive been moo'ed at too. Ive had people tell me I shouldnt be at the beach. My mom always comments about how big my arms are and how i should lift more weights or something...
Yeah... Fockin people... |
My friend and I where walking (working out) down the street one day and we got called beached whales. People can be so insensitive..

When I was a child, a friend's older brother called me 'Miss Piggy' which started me off on an eating disorder.
When I used to go out to clubs with friends during college, I got some horrible comments, and I was smaller then than I am now. We went to a cowboy night, and a group of guys stopped to ask why I was dressed up as a cowgirl instead of the cow I obviously was. It was so unexpected I burst into tears, which made them laugh even harder. I will never understand the need for some people to be cruel. Sometimes I think horrible, judgy things about others, but I would never say it to them or taunt them. I have an overweight friend who got stopped by a guy at a club once so that he could ask whether she could see her genitalia with such a big belly flap. And quick as a flash she turned around and said that even though he had a flat stomach, she didn't think he could see his own genitalia without a magnifying glass, it was so small. Everyone in the room started laughing at him, and he ran out, red in the face. I really admired her for being so quick to turn the nasty comment back on him! |
My brother used to call me Thunder thighs when I was a kid....needless to say that didn't help my self esteem...so much damage can be done from teasing
|
I have been 'moo'ed at
I had a guy tell me I ruined his life because I had a crush on him I remember one day supply teaching in Kindergarten, and this little girl comes up to me and says "That boy said you're fat, but you're not. You're beautiful".... I'm actually surprised I didn't get more comments when I supply taught, but I was always nice to the kids so they always liked me (same with the high schoolers I teach now) |
I manage the circulation department in a library, and this community has a lot of folks who owe a lot of money - and try to argue/intimidate/talk their way out of fines - try to steal material - etc. These folks like to argue!
I was told by my boss that one of the reasons they hired me is that my appearance and demeanor show that I'm not someone who will take arguing. I'm tall and imposing. Umm...I guess that's a good thing? She didn't say it, but I feel like she sort of meant, "No one will argue with her - she'll scare them!" |
Mountain Walker... I think you are the only other person I know who was called thunder thighs. Um... I had big thighs, round hips and boobs... *sigh*

Its amazing how rude and and overall naive people are. I was in the market a few weeks ago and I ran into a woman from my ballet class and she and I were talking and she liked my Susan Harris Key Chain. A minute or two later her husband comes up and starts calling me a sissy, and everything else. And while I'm used to it by now it still hurts. But what aggravates me is what does he care what kind of exercise routine I do, I'm not asking him to do ballet or aerobics.

My mother in law thought it was hilarious to say that no one would dare piss me off because I'd sit on them.
I had what I thought was a good guy friend who was once asked by someone else if he and I had been intimate. His reply was repeated to me: "I don't have a whale fetish." The worst was when my friend signed me up for a dating site and messages a guy for me. She tried to delete the reply but his answer was "are you kidding me???" That one really stung. |
