New to the forums, old to dieting

  • I have always been heavy. No, not heavy, just FAT. I always thought there was plenty of time to lose weight. And then I just had my 35th birthday and thought, "What am I waiting for, and how did I get this out of control?"

I am at my heaviest weight, 307. A big eye opener was the health fair last week at work. My cholesterol and blood sugar were very good, but my blood pressure was so high that I had to promise to see a doctor within 48 hours. There has to be a better way to live.

Dieting has never worked for me, and rather than continuing to do the same thing over and over again, I am trying something new.

I am changing my lifestyle and eating habits, not going on a diet. I need to stop the soda, the fast food, the high sodium frozen meals, and the super sugary snacks. I know I will not be perfect and will make mistakes, but I will pick myself up and keep going.

And I will acknowledge I need help and support. And that I what I am hoping to find here, with an amazing group of people.

So my name is Jodi, and I am taking a big step toward changing my life for the better. And I cannot wait to talk with everyone here!
  • Congratulations!!! Welcome to 3fat chicks!!
  • Congratulations on making the decision to take that first step. I found my way here after having a pretty disturbing "come to Jesus" meeting with my doctor. I'd always been fat but my numbers were always perfect - blood sugar, cholesterol, etc. until last week.

I went to the doctor and my blood work showed my blood sugar was elevated, my cholesterol was up and my liver enzymes were a few points up (due, my doc said, to a fatty liver). I had gained 40 lbs (YIKES) in the last few years and that was enough to saddle me with the obesity trifecta and it was only going to get worse if I didn't get a handle on it.

I found my way here and it's been a great source of support and information! Good luck as we go forward on this journey!
