Introducing myself.. another 300+'er

Hello everyone,

I said hi in the introductions forum but I wanted to come say hello here as well. As you can see, I am still above 300 and working on it.. but it is nice to find a place to talk with other people who are in, or have been in, the same boat!

Welcome and good luck on your weight loss journey, What plan are you on?

Welcome to 3FC... I'm new myself :)

mamadoll 08-13-2010 08:27 AM

Thanks for the welcomes!!

I'm not on any specific plan. I have been using fitday.com.. it calculates the amount of calories you can have per day to meet the deadline you set, has a food tracker, etc. I wasn't impressed with their blog, though, so that's what led me here and I'm glad it did! I also have been changing the types of foods I eat. Trying to eat mostly whole foods and avoid corn syrup and junk like that if at all possible.

Other than that my plan is to work out, mostly swimming and weight training at first, I think.

In the past I have tried WW, Atkins, etc. I was even a month away from getting WLS but had to move and had to leave the program. When I lost the weight last time (then gained it all back +50 lbs. grr.) I did it through calorie restriction, trying to eat whole foods and avoid corn syrup, etc, and working out diligently.. and I felt great. So I figure I will try that again.

Are most people here on a certain plan?

LiliK 08-13-2010 09:13 AM

Hey Mamadoll:

You'll find as you browse the forums that there are as many "plans" as there are people. Some of us are calorie counters, some carb counters, some on Weight Watchers or South Beach or whatever works for them. Since you have a good idea of what works for you, it's just a matter of tailoring your plan to fit you and then committing to it. Then find a group of like-minded folks for support and encouragement and ideas, and you're on your way!

A lot of us use calorie counting with a twist--calorie counting in that we stick to a particular level of caloric intake, the twist that we focus on particular types of food. For some, it's low-carb, high protein. For me, it's high-fiber, whole- and superfoods. Really, it's whatever will work for you that you can stick with long term and be healthy doing.

Best wishes to you!!

:welcome3:!!

I'm a calorie counter, too, and my twist is that I try to incorporate LOTS of fruits and veggies, love the idea of eating the rainbow! I also limit 'white' foods and sugary stuff which tends to make me more hungry and blah. I don't have an exact amount of calories I can eat in a day, but range most days from 1500-1800, with a 2000 day a couple times a week or so. I like to keep my body guessing, and it seems to be working for me!

Have a wonderful time getting to know everyone here, they are the best!!!

mamadoll 08-13-2010 08:23 PM

Very cool Shannon! I know that calorie counting worked for me in the past, and just makes the most sense, mathematically, to me. I like the idea of "keeping your body guessing"!

I am a carb counter, One thing for sure is we are all here to lose weight.
Good luck on your journey.

Hello, I Too Am New (again) Participated In This Forum Several Years Ago Met Some Really Great Folks-looking Forward To Talking To You (and Everyone Else) Soon--pjk

Good day to all! I thought I would share a bit of my story. I belonged to this thread in 2003-2004. I had much success, spiritually, mentally..and physically. I lost about 80 lbs, and felt wonderful! I was active, walking sometimes 3 times a day with my dog, walking away the pounds with Leslie Sansone, and meeting monthly with a nutritionist, I was writing in my journal, and keeping track of everything that went into my mouth! It was the most disciplined, best time of my life! I had family support, I had support of the girls on this thread, I wasn't isolating, I wasn't just "existing", and going through the motions. I was living my life! (and) for a "fat girl" of over 30 years (at that time) it was scary, and remarkable at the same time. What happened you say? I stopped doing the "next right thing", AND that made it easier to start making the wrong (oh so familiar bad choices)..and it just spiraled down from there. So fast forward about 6 years and here I am. I turned fifty at the beginning of this year (at least to say a milestone), coming to terms with my own mortality, coupled with the fact that my father died at the age of 64. All of this came crashing down a couple weeks ago when I was hospitalized for cellulitis in my right leg, and it was in my blood stream, spent 5 days in the hospital had a myriad of tests, was diagnosed as borderline diabetic, and had some fluid collecting on my lungs, that was my "proverbial" wake up call, so here I am: humbled, and grateful to be back..more later P
