Will I be accepted here?

For the last year or so I have been shunned from diet forums because of my age. They would tell me I am a "child" and don't belong with them. That I am to young to need support because I can "do it myself". So I ask will I be accepted here? I'm only 16.

This forum is extremely supportive, and friendly, and accepting. You'll love it here. And, if you ever feel like you need a weight loss buddy, to help you keep on track, shoot me a message, because I need all the support I can get, too. :)

Welcome.

Hi Sweetie,

I am glad to see you here. You have as much right as anyone to be here. And I think it's wonderful that you are looking for support.
Heck, I'm 52 and I can't do it myself yet.
Welcome Amber.
Hugs and more hugs.
Diane

I don't see why not. Everybody deserves support in weight loss...no matter what the age!!! Welcome to the forum!!!

Amber...we are all here for ONE reason...and that is to find support while losing weight and living a healthier lifestyle! Age makes no difference here. I applaud you for seeking out support. Sounds like a very mature move! :bravo:

So...

:wel3fc: I think you will like it here!

Hi Amber,
Welcome to 3FC. This is the place to be for support and motivation, no age requirements here. We're all here for the same reason as you, so come on in.

Hi Amber,

First of all, Welcome!! :) I just joined a few days ago and already I can feel the kindness and support from everyone on this site. Age makes no difference when it comes to needing help or support.

,
Teri

And whoever told you that you can "do it yourself" is right...but it sure is easier and a lot more fun if you don't. ;)

MaddiesMom 07-08-2010 09:59 PM

Amber: welcome! Age definitely does not matter. Wish I would have been able to find a site like this when I was 16! It's always great to have a support system. You will find that here.

I've gotten that comment in the past, when I was in college, from people are a supposed diet support group. That it's "so much easier for me because I'm young." That's really dismissive. It is darn HARD to be overweight, and especially hard as a teenager. I've been overweight my entire life, and I do think there are slightly different "issues" for people who have always been overweight, versus people who were at a healthy weight for the first 20-30 years of their life and then gained weight.

Sweetheart, you're not the only one. Rainlady is my daughter, she's 17 and book wrym is my son, he's 16. You are more than welcome here.
With open arms,
All my love,
Faith

Hi Amber,

I agree with everyone, you have every right to be here regardless of your age. I am a Foster Mom & right now have a lovely 15 year old girl, I would hate it if someone made her unwelcome anywhere just because of her age. She doesn't have a weight problem, but being a foster child she has lots of things she has to adjust to, make life changes & basically try to help herself on so many things. She needs help & encouragement sometimes & you will need it too dealing with dieting & your life changes. Regardless of age everyone needs help & encouragement sometimes.

So welcome & don't let anyone make you feel like you can't do something you have your heart set on doing.

Don't sweat it. :P Everyone is accepted here. There are actually a few other teens on 3FC, one of them being myself... So if you ever wanna talk, feel free to PM me.

chaoserenity 07-09-2010 04:56 AM

Teens need support too. So long as you're not under 13 and violating the COPPA, there's no beef. ♥ This is a great place to get started and we're very supportive. :)
