Pinky,
A couple of things that have worked so far for me. First TheDailyPlate is a great site for keeping track of calories! And as far as calories in things you make at home, what I have been doing is I add up ALL the ingredients as I put them in. Then I total the calories for the entire thing (in your case the tune salad)... then decide how many calories I am willing to spend on whatever it is and divide the dish accordingly (zip lock bags are awesome for this). Say I total something as 1000 calories but I am only wanting to spend 250 on it... I will seperate it out into 1/4ths (approximately) and zip lock bag up each portion and use a sharpie on the bag and write down how many calories are in that bag. takes about 5 mintues more to do this, and then I have several meals I can count on! Just an idea. Also, as important as exercise is, keep in mind (I have heard this time and time again) that diet is 90% of weight loss. So hang in there while your foot is healing and go to town on the water... the more you can flush out your system the better! Scale isn't being nice to me this week... I was down .5 earlier this week and was up the next two days... I am sure stress from earlier this week (as well as TOM) is a major factor, so I am trying to hang in there. My mom is doing the relay for life tonight at one of the local high school stadiums, I think I might go tonight and run/walk with her. I am not sure how much she will be able to do since she just had chemo on Tuesday, maybe I can take her place and do the walking for her if she isn't up for it. Everyone have a great weekend! |
I would just like to say that we aren't really klutzes. It's just as we gain or lose weight, our center of gravity changes. That can mess you up. I've found that I'm a bigger klutz when losing weight than gaining weight. I guess because I move more on the way down than on the way up.

Amy - I totally agree, I've had great luck with TheDailyPlate. I love the idea of adding up the total dish and then dividing it into approximate portions. Great way to make use of the tool :) I also set up "meals" for myself on it, things that I eat all the time, so I don't always have to reenter it. Enjoy the relay for life tonight, it's such a great event.

Hello everyone - My name is Barb and I am a newby. Yes, I too have lots of weight to lose - I was on Atkins for 3 weeks and lost 15 lbs. I did not think it was enough variety and not really healthy.....so I've switch to WW points system. I was on that several years ago so still have old books. I have forgotten many things and it is a challange to keep going. I hope to hear from all of you and help me stay motivated - Thanks :carrot:

Welcome itstime2.... I am a newby too... Something to be wary of... when you go off of a low carb diet like atkins you can tend to gaina few pounds very quickly. WW is a great program, but give your body a few weeks to level off after exiting the low-carb diet. I am personally just making healthy food and watching my calories (WW for the lazy and time-strapped!)
Look forward to getting to know you. |
Thanks for the tips Amy! I love the idea of dividing up the meal into portions and labeling the bags. I am the zippie bag queen around here! LOL I do this for so many other things, this will work nicely.
Enjoy the Relay for Life and seeing your Mom. I'll cheer for you from here! Catherine, Ok I will stop saying I'm a clutz....but I really was never that coordinated when I was young and slim either. OY! Speaking of...my 10 year old twisted his ankle at soccer practice last night (as I have done a million times) and now he's on crutches! It is always something around here. Poor kiddo. Today I woke up with a fever, so I'm moving in slow motion. Everyone else in the family has had it, so I guess it was my turn. I'm taking my daughter to prom dress shop tonight...we have an appt. at a bridal boutique out of town. I am praying they have something in her size that she likes. She's gotten larger than me :( ...but that is another story I am sure I will talk about later. Have a great Friday night everyone :) |
Most bridal shops will have larger sizes. If the one you go to does not try David's bridal if you have one around they have a TON of stuff you can buy off the rack is larger sizes.
|
AmyMW-great to hear your tips - I have gained a couple of pounds this week and was pretty discouraged.
Pinky - When it rains, it pours - I know how that goes - how long is your son going to be on crutches? Bad time for a 10 year old. |
Hi I'm back....had a 'difficult' week. TOM came early..hubby at my parent's house... I need to see my Dr coz the HRT doesn't seem to be working properly. I should have weighed in on Friday but ate a few potato cakes (I'm on low carb) coz of TOM cravings so I didn't weigh in. BUT I'm back! I must start exercising again and now it's warmer I'll find drinking water MUCH easier too. My Dad was released from hospital yesterday (x4 bypass) and my hubby is staying til Sunday to help my Mum out with him. The Jeep is costing ANOTHER £500, it cost £400 to get through the MOT ( a yearly test-Ministry of Transport- to test roadworthiness) so we are tightening our belts financially.....
Anyway WELCOME newbies...... I will try to catch up on you all soon. xxxxxxsharon |
welcome to all the new members,
Annie good to see you hon have been praying for you. I was born under the fish sign and I guess it was meant to be I love the water. I am proud of you all. We have been having storms here in Missouri thus my absence for two days and looks like another one is rolling in so I better log out and unplug the comp have a good week all. |
Erg, today is going to be a rough day. It's my best friend's birthday party, and I was in charge of making his cake. It's a chocolate peanut butter marble cake, with chocolate buttercream. Healthy? I think not. I entered all the stuff into TheDailyPlate and it's looking like a small slice is still going to be 500 calories. The food for the party is pizza, snacks, and cake w/ice cream. What the heck am I supposed to do with that? Not to mention my friends are totally unsupportive of my new eating habits and attempting to lose weight. "You're fine how you are" and "but you're so much more fun when you're not worrying about what you eat." Sigh. I'm going to try to make up for it the rest of the day, and I plan to skip the ice cream, and keep my portions miniscule at the party, but this is just ridiculous. I feel like I'm consciously entering a trap.

Welcome to all the newbies!
I am around a bit today. I am packing and making cards like a mad woman! We are moving the 28th, this wednesday and I can not wait! Today while packing our bedroom i moved the bed and noticed MOLD growing between the floor boards. I am so thankful we are moving to a CLEAN house. My tummy is still BLAH! Some days are good others are not! Once we get moved I will get into another GI. I seriously think it is Acid reflux. I want to try Nexium. I have been on prevacid for a few months and its not working that great. My weight is holding steady. Will be glad when the pools open here which will be next month. I need a tan and swim ;) |
Oh my goodness, azcyn, I totally hear you on the pool thing. I'm dying to be in water again. Maybe I'll see if my sister's up for a swim this week... she has an indoor pool in her building complex. Me? I have pigeons and hobos. Stupid downtown living.

Happy Sunday Eve. all,
Catherine: How did "Himself's" sleep tests go? I hope that if he does have it he feels better quickly after getting the machine. I know it sure helped me. Mine went away with the extra weight. Pinky: Hang in there and feel better soon. Maybe you could get a DVD on chair exercises? Debi: Hi there doll. Glad to see you posting. We can do this Deb, I just know it. Barb: Welcome. Looking forward to getting to know you better. Sharon: So glad that you Dad is home. I will be praying for his recovery. Sorry about the Jeep. TOM makes everything seem wayyyy worse than it is, at least for me as TOM is visiting right now. lol. Tracy: Thanks doll. Stay safe with that weather. I have a niece and nephew living there around Aurora and Monett areas. Neon: Good thoughts coming your way so you can keep away from much of the junk food. Hugs to you. Cyn: Icky mold. I hope you guys get out of there soon. Hugs. Well, I bought myself a food journal that has spaces for vitamins, meds and exercise and water etc. I really like it so far. It is called, "I will lose the weight this time". I just thought the title was great and I feel like I will get back to my 211 pounds and then continue downward. I am hoping that in September my heart Dr. will approve skin removal surgery on my tummy. I think it is called a panectomy. I have tons of extra skin there and it makes my back hurt pretty bad. Planning on staying on plan this week and doing my walking daily along with other exercise. Hope everyone has a wonderful on plan, water drinking and bootie moving week! Blessings all, Annie |
