Water Water Everywhere...
I am pretty uneducated when it comes to water needs and how it effects weight loss. I mean, I hear all the time "drink enough water" but then I also read several things years ago that stated that you probably get enough water and its a misnomer that you have to drown yourself with 64 oz or whatever the recommended is a day. But I decided I need to try to up my water intake and bought myself a cute 25oz water bottle to keep next to me at work to sip on as encouragement.
Anyway, I was doing some more reading today that said someone of my size actually needs about 164oz of water a day (WHAT??!) and that drinking a lot of water actually helps your liver metabolize fat better as it wont need to help the kidney do it's job if there is enough water in the system (WHAT WHAT?!). My question to all of you water drinkers is: have you noticed having a high water intake helping you in the weight loss process? How about in your skin (read that too, heh). :swim: PS when I was looking for a water emoticon to include in this post, I came across  and my first thought was "gah that little smiley face looks just how I will feel if I drink that much water, I'll vomit it all up too!" and then I realized it was drooling... |
as far as i know, if you do NOT drink enough water, your body gets dehydrated and then it retains water in order to keep functioning. thus, a part of the excess weight is actually water which your body is "too afraid" to flush out in case it won't get any.
i never used to drink enough water, but after forcing it down for some days i found that it did help with weight loss, i felt more alert, i actually felt thirsty if i did not drink and TMI ALERT: my n1 was a much healthier colour. finally, by water they mean fluids! they have found that coffee/tea etc have almost equal hydrating abilities. hope it helps grrrkgrrrk |
Hey Bee,
Water has so many benefits. Clear skin, helps with water retention, liver function. etc. I have two 60 oz. bottles in my fridge at all times and drink about 1 and 1/2 of those every day. During the summer here in FL I'll drink 2+ bottles. I just know that I feel better with more water consumption. Learn |
I HATE drinking water...but I realize when I drink more of it than usual the skin of my entire body glistens, my bowels work better, and I retain way less. So keep on chugging lol!

You might have seen my post a few weeks ago…I thought I was drinking too much. I usually drink about 8 liters a day which is easy for me to do. Something about dieting, being more health conscious and exercising makes me crave water.
It really is SO beneficial. I don’t recommend anyone else drink as much as I do because it’s just not for everyone, but it keeps me energized, feeling clean (does that make sense), full and in control. It’s really good for your body. |
I've been told you should drink one-half of your body weight in ounces. So if you weigh 250 lbs you should drink 125 oz of water. My weight shoots right up when I don't get my water in. Learn is so right about all of the benefits - listen to her - she is a wise one.

I'm with ThicknPretty... I drink anywhere from 6-8 ltrs of water a day, plus some coffee/tea . It makes me feel clean and healthy and I know I'm doing good for my body, as it is flushing out all the toxins and salt!
It definitly helps with the scale moving downward, and I notice if I don't get atleast 3 ltrs of water in a day, I usually start retaining because I am "dehydrated" to some extent. MY advice for anyone trying to lose weight. drink lots and lots of water. Use crystal light singles if need be. I use salt free carbonated water and mix in a crystal light single...its like drinking pop because you get the "bubbly" but really its alllll water! |
Thank you so much everyone for your input. I have spent the last 4 days trying to get into the habit of drinking constantly all day long. Honestly, the only thing I have noticed is that I haven't lost much weight this week (and I am 100% on plan, so it's a double bummer, but the only thing I have changed is the water intake) and I am in the bathroom every 30 minutes - which is awesome bonus exercise LOL.
I do, however, have faith in all your experience and knowledge so will keep it up! ~Bee |
