Well...I would just say your BF is not educated on what Atkins is all about. My stats prove that it is not "Fatkins". My bloodwork proves that it has improved my overall cholesterol...lowered my bad cholesterol and raised my good cholesterol. All good...*for me*. Different people do well on different plans, but it is pretty telling if your body responds well to low carb....and Atkins is only one of several LC plans you can research. I eat a very balanced diet with meat, fish, dairy, veggies, some fruits (still adding them) and healthy fats. Of course, we have been taught that fat is bad, but there are good fats...and bad fats...and researching this will be a real eye opener for you.

Good Luck!

Wow. I am so grateful for all of the discussion! And the links and references were especially useful. Thank you!!

As an update, I have now FINALLY dropped out of the 300s to 297!!!

I think that if I adopt this lower (healthier) carb, low fat, higher protein lifestyle for good, I might actually stand a chance at achieving permanent weight loss.

Thanks, again, for all of the info and good luck to all of you!!

Congratulations! I know I was overjoyed when I hit the 200s......and I will probably *faint* when I hit the 100s :D

I am so happy to hear about this from other women. I have been eating a low calorie balanced diet for months now and have had minimal loss. I exercise 5 days a week for at least an hour as well and have been so frustrated that I contemplate just giving up. I think I may be insulin resistant, and have been researching it since seeing this thread. Today I am switching to a low carb lifestyle to see if this may be what my body needs to lose weight. I'm sure these first few weeks will be hard on my mind, thankfully I'll be busy this weekend and hopefully that will keep my mind off eating carbs. Hopefully I will stumble onto what works for my body soon. Thanks for this thread!
