300+ Weekly Thread #1220
:welcome: We are a group of individuals who weigh or have weighed 300+, or near there. This group was formed to provide a place for others like us to find support, inspiration, and hope. We are aware of the distinct problems that come with weighing over 300 lbs. We want to invite everyone (roosters as well as chicks!) to join us in our journey. We share laughter and tears, heartaches and fears ... joys and celebrations. We also share what works for us and what doesn't. We know the thread can move very quickly, and that people often make "personal" remarks and keep a number of conversations going. Please feel free to contribute even if you can't make personal comments all the time. Finally, we also have several extra threads going on simutaneously such as Monthly Challenges, Weekly Weigh-ins, Recipes, Bios, Photos, Exercise, Info for Getting Started and more. Many of these threads are stickied at the top of the page. Please feel free to check them all out. We have found this thread to be more than just a support group... we have found it to become a home. We invite you to join us. There have been some concerns expressed by the powers that be about copyright infringement. So please, if you are directly quoting someone else or printing an article in whole or in part, please give credit where credit is due!! |
morning all
Yesterday I went to my sisters and went swimming. It was so friggin hot! We only swam for 20 min. The temp in the pool was 89 degrees..lol. Tomorrow I go for my endoscopy and sigmoidscopy. Soo not looking forward to it. How was everyone's weekend? |
I'm still around but busy with the move. We closed on the house on Friday and will be leaving in a week. I've already worked out this morning. So off to a good start just enjoying coffee right now as kids watch some cartoons. Then back to cleaning and packing for me. I did have a 2lb gain this week but I'm not gonna let it get me off track I'm staying OP.
|
Hi all...
I had a great weekend. Family BBQ Sat and then hanging poolside yesterday with friends. Stayed on plan at the BBQ and woke up in a new decade this morning!!! :carrot::carrot: |
Hey chickies,
First off, Cyn- Good luck with your tests! I'm sending positive thoughts your way :) I have been MIA for a bit. My finace finally came home (working out of town 3 weeks home for a week), my sister is still visiting from China (leaves on Friday)...busy, busy, busy lol. My weekend was AMAZING! My sister and I went to Grand Forks, ND for some cross border shopping. Some good deals. BUT the plus was my behaviour changes!!! I stayed within my points by buying blueberries and rainier cherries for our snack, and went to subway for supper (loaded with veggies). Then the next day we went for Dim Sum. Usually Dim Sum kills my points for the day PLUS ALL of my flex points! I opted for the steamed pork dumplings (3 varieties), only 2 fried things in which I only had 1 of each! I felt soooo good after that PLUS our bill was $10 less than usual lol. Hopefully tonight will be nice and I will take the pugs for their walk at the park. I think we all need a good walk! I'm so excited about weigh-in tomorrow!!!!!! |
Hi ladies!
I just wanted to say I hope everyone has a great week!! :D |
Hello my Peeps!
I've been backsliding on my eating habits. Been doing a lot of soul-searching and things hit home when I finally got around to organizing some photographs I'd taken last Nov at a family event. I don't even recognize me in the pictures. I always seem to minimize my weight in my head. Pictures don't lie and they were a slap of reality that I needed. Time to re-evaluate! Hugs to all. Cyn, special hugs to you for your procedures tomorrow. I've had a colonoscopy and endoscopy, but had one of the best docs in MD. I was knocked out for the entire thing. The only unpleasant thing was the preparation (Drinking that nasty stuff to clean you out). Hugs, Ratkity PS I bet Catherine doesn't want to see any more popcorn bags and hotdogs until the next game. Keep focused on the $$ the church gets! |
Helloooo, weekly thread!
I think I am releasing all that retained water today because I cannot get more than 10 feet away from the bathroom. Usually I am a camel! How is everyone doing today :D |
:DHi All,:D
I am going back to calorie counting and so far am down 10 lbs:carrot: I have to have blood drawn and my labs done in Oct and that is a major motivator to get my numbers down. I am also changing shrinks so hopefully my meds will be re-balanced and maybe I will being taking fewer pills which would be fantastic. I have decided to try around 2000 calories a day with a bit of calorie cycling to start out with. Can't hurry this time and expect impossible big losses overnight. I need time to work out a plan. O well, the weather here is bleak. The summer Monsoon has been a bit of a dud and it is just so very hot. I left my fully charged cell phone in the car one day and the inside temperature killed the battery! Prayers and hugs to everyone! Pennie |
Hi everyone!
Cyn I hope the procedures go well and you can start to get the help/meds you need to get well again.xxxxxxx ps I've had one of the procedures, it's not actually as bad as you think, try some Bach Rescue Remedy if they have it over there, it really calms & relaxes you. (A flower & herb tincture you drop onto your tongue) I've been using it recently to calm down after a stressful day with special needs kids instead of the bottle of wine I usually have.xxxx Ratkitty I avoid cameras like crazy but at least this has scared you into doing something. I might brave the camera again to keep my resolve. I know you can do it, you've come 84lbs along, NO MEAN FEAT!!!!xxxxxx(wish I had!!!) Well I'm feeling good, had another ride on friend's horse should be going today but it looks like we're getting everyone else's RAIN here!!!!grrr She asked me to look after him when she goes away so I need a refresher in tacking up. My youger sis will ride him though as I don't feel confident enough to mount on my own or with sis as she doesn't know him. I'll be fine helping her mount & ride we'll be using the 'school' as there's no way I'm taking him on the busy roads in case anything happens as he's quite 'green' (only 4 & though he's lovely he might just get scared of something & bolts). Well I'm getting people saying 'Atkins, is that SAFE' etc.....still enjoying it & staying on it, hopefully the results will shut them up! xxxsharon |
morning ladies...
I am up cause I cant sleep. My procedures are today. I didnt have to drink the stuff yall talk about. I had to take 2 dulcalax last night...so not fun!!! Then the enemas today..UGH! I hope all goes well too! It is weird weather here today...a little rain ..and dark clouds. I walked outside and seen a rainbow in my back yard..amazing! |
Sharon...let your success do the talking. I always want to say...would you be giving me the 3rd degree if I were doing WW? WW didn't work for me. This does!
For example, I went to a family bbq this weekend and stayed completely on plan altho I had larger quantities than my typical meal, but not by much. Some people thought I had gone off for the day as I had chicken, a burger (sans bun) and a heaping helping of Broccoli salad (YUM) that I brought to make sure I had something I could eat. The kicker was my dessert strawberries and blueberries and home made whipped cream! Lots of people were eating both the salad and the dessert. All on plan...in fact my two items were the only bowls completely empty at the end of the feast. To top it all off, I was 4 lbs down this Monday! Works for me! :carrot: If something works for someone...I wish people would just let them be!! OK..OK...off my soapbox for now.... Have a great day everyone! :) |

Peggy/Torrister thanks, yes you food sounds lovely except the broccolli (:barf:ick!!!) I'm hoping to see my parents at the end of August I've not told them I'm dieting AGAIN, hope to suprise them with 15-20lbs off. Well SOME weight off anyway, lol! WTG on the BIG loss!!!!:woohoo:xxxxxxxxxxx
Nootch, yes people do poke their noses in:blah:, whether you're losing, gaining, eating, not eating...grrrrrr We can't do right can we? All we can do is to get on with it & ignore everyone who criticises.:tape: I take it that you've had 'comments' from people?:listen: I get so bored with my parents saying 'Oh ANOTHER diet, what weird stuff are you eating this time?' or 'Why don't you just eat less & exercise?' grrrr:doh:xxxxxxxxxx Where is everyone else? Annie will be busy with work but Carol, Anne, Battle...... xxxxxxxsharon:hug: |
Sharon - I'm here - mostly posting on the over 40 thread - thanks for missing me. I'm yoyoing the same 5 pounds - this time the yoyo is going down and staying down. I won't hit that 100 lb lost mark if I don't get my rear in gear.
New workout strategy from my trainer tonight - I'm excited. Strength/resistance first - then cardio - school of thought is that your body doesn't have to heat up as it does when you warm up first with some cardio. Took measurements on Monday - excited to see what 4 weeks of this will bring. Move your bodies, drink your water and SMILE. Hugs to all, Carol |
You don't like broccoli Sharon? :D I love all veggies, so anything goes really for me. If you want some great recipes, go to Linda Sue's recipe site at this link: http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/recipes.html and she has plenty of recipes and many are great for induction as well.
Yes, I have had comments. People think I am starving myself, but they don't get that I am eating REALLY well. A lot more than I used to while dieting, and there is such a variety of things that I can eat at this point and as I go up the carb ladder I will be adding more and more things. Its nature I guess to want to know all the whats and whys of what others are doing. |
Sharon/Torister your doing great. Can't wait to see your weight loss for the first week Sharon. I'm getting back on low carb eating again only I can do to lose. And take away my cravings for sweet food. Going to store on Friday to stock up.
Only 7 more days and we move:carrot: I can't wait to get to the house. I learned my lesson last night had a blizzard hadn't had one in years. Well I have sensitive teeth and I have a horriable tooth ache now. I should know better I so learned my lesson this time never ever again. |
morning ladies...
Well my sigmoid and endoscopy went well. I didnt get to talk to the gasterologist..but he spoke with hubby and told him that everything looked good but if I wanted to follow up with him about my hemmerroid to take care of it to call the office. Not sure what that means. Thank heavens for Nurses!!! They calmed me down before the Dr got there. He didnt even say anything to me..so unperfessional if ya ask me. Next stop..the cardiologist and that is not until August 6th. As crappy as this sounds..I am so afraid they wont find anything wrong with me..and although I want a clean bill of health..doesnt help! Like why am I nausious alot??? After the cardiologist I am seeing an OB/GYN. I think I want to have the ablation done. HAS ANYONE HAD THIS DONE?? I know it works on some and not on others. After I get done going to all these specialists...I am going to concentrate on loosing the weight. If nothing else..maybe that will help |
Hi everyone. Just checking in. I'm taking a mini-break from packing my stuff. I'm moving to a new apartment on the 2nd of August. I've had a month to pack but my feet give in way too early and I get frustrated that I don't get much done so now I have about a week before my mother comes to town to help with the move and I've not packed more than half of my apartment! So I took today off to get some more hours in of packing - just praying my feet hold out longer.
Anyway, I hope everyone is doing well. Sounds like some are having some success while others keep trying and that's the best thing to do - don't give up. I'm down 13.5 pounds in 9 weeks (my goal is a pound a week) so I'm pretty happy about that. But one thing I noticed since joining this site - I'm not alone. For so many years because I didn't know anyone who was as heavy as me or who was and had successfully lost a lot of it, I felt very alone. All the experiences I had none of my family or friends understood. Even the simple things they didn't understand are such a challenge for me. But you guys do and that makes it so much easier. So thanks for all your support and for being so kind to myself and everyone else. What a great group of people here. Well I should get back to packing. If I sit too long, I'll lose my steam. Hope you all have a wonderful day. |
I have chased my husband right out of the house. All it took was getting out my soldering iron. I'm replacing the cord on a pair of headphones. I know most normal people would just buy new ones, but I consider myself above normalcy. I just need to remember to pull my hair back so I don't catch it on fire. Don't have a game until Saturday. It's soccer this time. A team from Liverpool against one from Buenos Aires. I can't wait to meet my first British soccer hooligan. It will probably mostly be little league soccer teams with their coaches. That's how our last soccer game was. That means lots of corndogs and nachos and small cokes. We made $16,000 on the Kenny Chesney concert. They keep saying there is a recession, but people aren't cutting back on $5 footlongs.
|
CatherineM, I cannot stop giggling. Just the image of you whipping out your soldering iron and your husband running for the hills.
I am thinking about reporting an employee at my gym for seriously unprofessional behavior, but I'm kinda scared as he's the guy who is usually there when I go. He does nothing but flirt with attractive women who are trying to work out and sit on the machines like they are couches while talking on the phone. Today I hid in the bathroom for a few minutes because he was sitting on the machine I wanted to use and my standing there did not send a strong enough hint. I was too scared to ask him if I could use it so I just hid in the bathroom. That sounds really pathetic, but I am so scared/intimidated - he is the perfect personification of one of the things that drove me to do nothing but eat for years to begin with - a good looking, fit guy who thinks all women are his property and sees fat people as unpersons. Someone either talk me into or out of telling the owner - I'm really waffling here but he makes me SO uncomfortable when he sits on the machines like they are couches when people clearly want to use them - it is not just me, I've seen him do it to other fat women and older men. |
Nooch, you really should say something to someone. How many other people do you think its affecting? The gym stands to lose business because of his behaviour, and his boss should know (if he doesn't already). One thing to consider, is there any way to get an anonymous letter to the owner, telling him about what has happened and how you feel? It's a lot less confrontational, and if you're like me, its really hard to speak up for yourself.
Just remember, you're a paying customer. You should be getting exactly the same treatment as every other paying customer. If you're not, consider finding another gym. Good luck with it - keep us updated with what you decide! |
Nootch, I think Tanique has the right idea or.... possibly an approach such as 'Excuse me are you using that ...treadmill/whatever because I'd like to if you're not' in a firm but polite manner OR you could just shout out 'Get on with your job you lazy pervert!!' :devil:lol! I bet there's been people who have been tempted to shout similar things to him. Just remember to breathe and to sound FIRM, (if you're friendly with anyone there ask if they can 'lurk' nearby to give you support) if he gives you any sh*t you can go directly to his boss and you will have witnesses that you were decent & he was a g*t. Hope it gets sorted for you soon.:hug:xxxxxxxx
Well I went into school today they were all on trips so I cleaned a bit, printed worksheets out and got the Technology tutor to be a referee for me.:carrot: I'm all set to look for jobs in education now!:cheer3: I feel scared though, lol! :doh:I KNOW I can do it but it's just 'telling' myself I CAN rather than panicking that 'something' might come up why I can't do the job/apply for it! Ally, I started on a Sunday but cheated with a roast potato:o (it would have been thrown away & I hate waste & LOVE roast potatoes, lol;)) by Friday -'official' weigh in day - I'd lost 5lbs!!!!:carrot: I'd like the same this week but who knows? What are you doing, South Beach, Atkins or..?xxxxxxx Danni I always sit & wrap stuff when packing, try & get everything together then you can sit at a table & rest for a bit whist still getting it done. Hope the move goes well & yes most of us have been in the position where we have to sit to make beds, avoid stairs etc. It won't be for long, at this rate you'll be 80+lbs down by next year.xxxxxxxx Well gotta get some coffee & then pick dog poo up:barf: before mowing the lawn, anyone want to help? xxxxsharon:hug: |
Good morning all. Well, it's not a good morning, it's raining buckets here. I'd talked my mother into spending a day in the Niagara region (taking lunch to keep the cost down to just gas), and it's pretty much rained every day since. Oh well, maybe next week.
Sharon - I'm here, but just don't have much to say. Mentally I'm still struggling to keep on track, but have managed to do so. I think since I've gotten into the habit of taking big long walks I feel kind of lost on days I can't do them. Nooch - I admit I'd probably modify that statement Sharon gave you to something along the lines of 'Excuse me, since you're not using that ...treadmill/whatever could you please move so I can use it'. I've used the college fitness center and I'm always amazed that almost all of them are quite polite. Maybe they just haven't developed bad gym habits yet. |
Thanks for the encouragement - I think I am gonna say something. He is so unprofessional! And the owner is the exact opposite - he is the best gym guy I've ever seen.
Voodoo, you KNOW you can do it :D And WE KNOW you can do it! |
Thanks Nooch, sorry about mis-spelling your handle! lol
xxxxxxsharon |
wasnt going to come here today..cause I am not in a good mood..but decided I need to be here anyhow.
The house we were going to move into with my brother maybe a no..they want $100 more then I thought and its month to month. I don't like that at all. I want to know that I can stay there atleast a year. We were also told we didnt have to have a deposit..now we do. Which if we don't move there , my brother will be out on his rear too! I am very sad today...I wish i could go back to Jan of this year..before I got MRSA..before all my health problems began! Seems that things are just not going well at all. I keep praying to God that he will show me where I need to be. And what I need to be doing. |
Cyn_ hugs!! Hang in there!! Things will get better!!
things here are about the same. Hubby is scheduled to get the heart cath on aug 4. I just pray its something they can fix without open heart surgery. I cant wait for him to feel better again!! I am feeling overwhelmed by everything...all i do is cook and clean.Cooking 3 meals a day is new for me..I always did dinner but we had alot of sandwiches for lunch and light breakfasts. Now that hubby is on such a strict diet I have to cook almost every meal.Quick foods are loaded with fat and sodium and sugar he doesnt need.Weight is falling off him. He is down from 269 to 248. I am so proud of him. I even have to make his plate or else he will take to much food.MEN!!!!!!!!! LOL I should be losing but I am yo-yoing about 7lbs. Im hoping once the cath is over I can start to focus on me again. Im also hoping hubby can start walking with me again. RIght now he isnt allowed to walk to exercise...he is suppost to take it really easy. I have really missed everyone here. I am so ready for school to start back and get my routine back on track. Hope everyone is having a wonderful summer... hugs |
Hugs to cyn & dgramie!!
cyn - Sometimes, all we can do is just hang in there. I'm sorry things are so difficult and uncertain right now. You'll make it through this, and come out stronger for it. Just keep going - one step at a time. dgramie - Please don't let the yo-yo get you down. It's really hard being a caretaker, and the stress is enormous. It sounds like you're doing a good job taking care of yourself - but don't be afraid to assert your needs some, too. If you don't look after yourself, you won't be able to help your hubby. You're doing great - just keep at it! |
Tanique, yet again you come up with sage advice.xxxxxx
Debbie, you are going through a lot of stress, the fact that you aren't GAINING & giving up shows how focussed you are. HUGSxxxxxxxxxxxx I gained yesterday!!! I was in tears. Knew I'd followed it to the letter (Atkins) so I'm hoping for a good los next week, I hope it's a hormonal thing as my rings were VERY hard to get on yesterday, normally they are quite loose. xxxxxxxxsharon |
hi friends!
my life has been SO insane the last few months. im so sorry i havent been in. i hope youre all doing well!! i have the greatest news! I got accepted to Chapman University here in California. they have the most prestigous and competitive film school in california. i was one of 20 selected out of 170 applicants to transfer. on top of that, they gave me enough financial aid to completely cover the first year. im so excited! i also got an internship with a film distribution company. basically we buy the rights to independent films and get them shown on college campuses, cruise lines, military bases, and limited release in theatres. its a great job and its close to my house, and it pays. not a lot, but a stipend, so thats awesome too. ive managed to lose a little weight in the mean time and hope to be under 300 by my birthday which is in 5 weeks. |
Hiya Princess!!!
I'm so happy for you and your new job/student role! Of course, if I'd had known you were going for such a prestigous school, I'd have told you that you were a shoe-in :) I'm so glad the admisisons people saw the coolness in you that we see here! I know you'll be very busy as you take classes and do all the projects required of you, but drop in periodically! Hugs, Ratkity |
dgramie: HuGS to you!!!! I hope all well goes with hubby and he doesnt need open heart surgury either!!!
Princess: WTG!!! Chapman..that is my last name lol didnt know there was a college called that! How exciting for you!! As for me: Thanks for all the HUGS!!! They really do mean the world to me! Last night I babysat my niece Zoe that is 2. She is just so funny and cute. She now knows knock knock jokes its so cute! Today I am going to get my blood drawn..so I am fasting and a bit hungry :( Hope everyone has a great weekend! |
cyn - its a big christian college, but they dont focus on seminary, which is good because im not really religous. but thier film school is sponsored by larry and kristina dodge, and the studio was donated by the Knott family (of knotts berry farm).
rat - thanks for the kind words :) |
Hi everyone,
The past 2 weeks have been just awful for me eating and exercising wise. I am up 4 pounds since last weigh in last Sunday! I am seriously going to do something about this before I get out of hand. It can happen so quickly. I have been eating crappy stuff for me out of boredom something I said I would not do again. I will not be too hard on myself just gonna get my but back in gear and wake up early enough to fit in the exercise before work. I was off work and running to an appointment, class or meeting every single day last week after work. It honestly drained me and I didn't fit in any me time to exercise and plan out my meals. It showed on the scale today. So, new week and new plan that I will try my best to follow. I have missed all of you and hope to be able to stop in more this week and see how you all are truly doing. Luan: Huge congrats on Chapman. My niece Lacy is a singer and she tried to get into Chapman and wasn't excepted. I know that Ade from "So You Think You Can Dance" goes there. I hope all of your dreams come true my friend and the next time I am in Ca visiting my sister down in your area we can meet up. I miss you all and big hugs. Hopefully I will have time to be back tomorrow. Pray for me that my focus is back this week Blessings, Annie |
Princess- Congratulations!! That is so awesome about getting accepted into Chapman and your internship! :D
Annie- I'm sorry you've been having a rough time, but you have a great attitude. You're right, it is easy to slip back into old habits but what is important is that you caught yourself and are working to get back on track. I hope that this week goes better for you. I have been doing well lately with food and exercise but am frustrated with how slloooow the weight loss can be at times. I have only lost one pound in the past two weeks and have actually increased my workouts, going on a 30-minute walk each day and also biking every other day. I am trying to be patient and not worry about it but I'd like to see some weight loss! :p When did people start to notice your weight loss? I have lost over 50 lbs and no one can really tell at all. I can tell by my clothes but not looking in the mirror. I think my family thinks I am making up my weight loss. :dizzy: |
Hi everyone,
I've been struggling. The change in my routine, or shall I say lack of routine from not working is a problem for me. I have determined to put myself on a schedule. First up is a solid exercise routine, and I'm happy to say at least that is getting better. I'm also taking this opportunity to deep clean my apartment so that my environment is pleasant. Unfortunately the hits just keep coming. My mother has cancer. I scheduled a trip for early September to go visit her, and am also making some arrangements to have some fun plans while there so it isn't all stress and sadness and jumbles of mixed feelings. I have mentioned in the past that my family situation is a huge mess and I have struggled with how and how much to get involved. It is going to get worse. This is all the more reason to take care of myself physically and mentally. Hugs to everyone. |
Letstryitagain, I am so sorry :( Last year was like that for my family, one thing after another and it was HARD. I wish you lots and lots of strength and send you lots of love in dealing with this.
|
Ronnie: Thanks for the encouragement. Sometimes people do notice your weight loss but they are too shy or think it may embarass you to say something about it. Hang in there. They will start to say you look great soon or that they see you have lost some weight. Great job on the exercise routines.
Battle: So sorry to hear about your Mom. I will put her on my prayer list. Hugs to you on the struggles you are going through right now. Hope everyone has a great on track op week. Blessings, Annie |
